Jack Ciattarelli secures the Republican nomination for New Jersey governor

Former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli secured the Republican nomination for New Jersey governor shortly after the polls closed in the June 10 primary. While the results will not be official until later this month, Ciattarelli was declared the victor by the Associated Press and the Washington Post at about 8:17 p.m. There were hundreds gathered at Ciattarelli's party at Bell Works in Holmdel well before the polls closed though no official announcement of his win had been made as of 8:30 p.m. Ciattarelli, who narrowly lost to incumbent Gov. Phil Murphy back in 2021, all but secured the nomination a few weeks ago when President Donald Trump endorsed him in a social media post. In a social media post, Trump said the former assemblyman is a 'terrific America first candidate.' 'Jack, who after getting to know and understand MAGA, has gone ALL IN, and is now 100%," Trump wrote, seemingly acknowledging that Ciattarelli initially called the president a "charlatan" in 2015. Ciattarelli later endorsed Trump and, in 2020, the former New Jersey Assemblyman spoke at a "Stop the Steal" rally promoting the false conspiracy theory that voter fraud put Democrat Joe Biden in office. Ciattarelli has never publicly endorsed that view. Results: See North Jersey 2025 primary results for Bergen, Essex, Passaic and Morris counties After losing to Gov. Phil Murphy in 2021, the Republican said he would run again. He lost in the 2017 primary to former Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno. A Somerville resident and Raritan native, Ciattarelli has spent decades in politics and served in the state Assembly and in county and local government. He beat former radio personality Bill Spadea and state Sen. Jon Bramnick. It is unclear who Ciattarelli will face in November as he tries to succeed Murphy. As of June 1, there were 6,574,692 registered voters in New Jersey, including 2,451,752 Democrats and 1,624,437 Republicans. That is 44,302 fewer Democrats and 60,666 more Republicans than at this time last year. The nation will be watching the Garden State's general election unfold as a bellwether — New Jersey and Virginia are the only states holding elections for governor this year. Pundits are already portraying the two races as referendums on the second Trump administration's policies and agenda. Katie Sobko covers the New Jersey Statehouse. Trump-backed Jack Ciattarelli captures GOP nomination for New Jersey governor

HOLMDEL, N.J. - The candidate President Donald Trump recently endorsed in New Jersey has won the state's Republican gubernatorial primary, in the 2025 race to succeed term-limited Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy. The Associated Press projects that Jack Ciattarelli, a former GOP state lawmaker who is making his third bid for New Jersey governor, will capture the Republican nomination, topping four rivals in Tuesday's primary in a race that for months had been a battle for Trump's support. Among those Cittarelli defeated were former businessman and popular conservative talk radio host Bill Spadea and state Sen. Jon Bramnick, a lawyer who served for a decade as state Assembly GOP leader. Ciattarelli and Spadea spent months trading fire over which of them was a bigger Trump supporter. But last month the president endorsed Cittarelli, who ran unsuccessfully for the GOP nomination in 2017, but four years later he captured the nomination and overperformed in the general election, coming close to ousting Murphy. "I'm asking you to get out and vote for a true champion for the people of your state – Jack Ciattarelli. He's been a friend of mine, and he's been a real success story," Trump told supporters a week ago, as he dialed into a tele-rally on the eve of the kick-off of early voting in New Jersey. Trump's grip over the GOP is stronger than ever following his convincing White House re-election victory last November, and Cittarrelli, in a Fox News Digtal interview last week, said the president's endorsement was "a really big deal" and added "the president's doing very, very well in New Jersey." Spadea said that not landing Trump's endorsement "was certainly disappointing." "I mean, we made no bones about this. We absolutely wanted the president's endorsement. Unfortunately, the president endorsed a poll and not a plan," Spadea told Fox News Digital last week. "I have been a supporter of President Trump since he came down the escalator," as he referenced Trump's announcement in 2015 of his first presidential campaign. "There is no question that I am the common-sense conservative. I am the actual Republican in this primary," Spadea claimed. And Spadea questioned Ciattarelli's support for Trump, arguing that his rival "has disrespected him [Trump] for the better part of the last eight years…We thought that that endorsement would have been better served with me." Four years ago, after he won the GOP gubernatorial nomination, Ciattarelli, when asked if he was seeking the then-former president's endorsement, told Fox News Digital "there's only one endorsement I seek, and that's the endorsement of the voters of New Jersey. That's the only one that matters." Fast-forward to 2025, and Ciattarelli emphasized that "people really appreciate what he [Trump] is doing for New Jerseyans. He's put a temporary hold on the wind farms off the Jersey Shore. He's beating up on the New York Democrats over congestion pricing. He supports a quadrupling of the SALT [state and local tax] deduction on our federal tax returns. Those are big deals to New Jersey, and that's why he's got so much great support here. And I'm honored to have his endorsement." Asked why Trump endorsed him rather than Spadea, Ciattarelli said that "the president wants to win. He knows that I provide the best opportunity to win in November." "He knows we're going to raise the necessary money. We've raised more money than the other five Republican gubernatorial candidates combined," added Ciattarelli, a certified public accountant who started a medical publishing company before getting into politics. Ciattarelli's fundraising allowed him to dominate the GOP primary ad wars. The Democratic Governors Association, pointing to the rush to embrace Trump by the top two candidates, long described the 2025 Republican showdown as a "MAGA battle" and argued that there's "extremism in the GOP primary." While New Jersey has long leaned toward the Democrats, Republicans have had success in gubernatorial elections. "It's not a blue state when it comes to governor races, Republicans have won six of the last 11. That's better than 50%," Ciattarelli said. Trump, who for years has spent summer weekends at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, held a very large campaign rally last year in Wildwood, N.J. And he improved from a 16-point loss in the state in the 2020 election to a 6-point deficit last November. Ciattarelli, looking ahead to the general election campaign, said he's "really looking forward" to Trump's "active participation…I think New Jerseyans are anxious to have him on the campaign trail with me and help deliver a win for us in November."

Halsey just canceled a concert. Are her Jersey homecoming shows still on?

Halsey canceled a concert this week due to 'vocal issues' — but her Jersey homecoming shows this weekend are still on. "Missing Maine broke my heart, so Jersey we have to put it back together .... !!!!" said Halsey June 5 on her Instagram story. Upcoming shows for Halsey's For My Last Trick Tour are Friday at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, and Saturday, June 7, at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden. Halsey, aka 30-year-old Ashley Nicolette Frangipane of the Washington borough of Warren County, canceled her June 4 performance at the Maine Savings Amphitheater in Bangor Maine hours before the show. 'I woke up this morning and my voice was just ... gone,' wrote Halsey on a Wednesday Instagram story. 'I saw my doctor and they said singing tonight could cause injury if i don't let my vocal cords rest. So — we have to cancel tonight's show in Bangor. 'I'm devastated. there's nothing that would keep me off of a stage besides not being able to sing. I would try to push through anything else, but this is the one situation I can't. 'The good news is that with time to rest, doctors have advised I'll be able to continue the rest of the tour as planned. Canceling tonight is the only way to make sure that happens.' The venue also stated that the show is canceled and tickets will be refunded from the point of purchase. 'We wish Halsey a speedy recovery and we hope to see her in Maine soon,' said Waterfront Concerts of Maine. Tickets for Halsey's Jersey shows this weekend begin at $42 via Ticketmaster. The scheduled 32-city Halsey tour kicked off May 10 at the Toyota Pavilion in Concord, California, and wraps up July 6 at the Yaamava Theater in Highland, California. Halsey announced the tour with a fatally fun video where she's apparently prepping for her funeral. Her last tour was five years ago as she has battled multiple illnesses in recent years. She's spoken publicly about battles with endometriosis, Ehlers-Danlos syndromes, Sjogren's syndrome and mast cell activation syndrome. In a social media post, she suggested that she's being treated for lupus and leukemia when she linked to the Lupus Research Alliance, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Halsey's latest album, 'The Great Impersonator,' was released in October 2024. Her hits include 'Bad at Love,' 'Eastside,' 'Without Me' and 'Closer.'
