Home Bargains' £8 bowl looks 'just like' bestselling £30 version
Decor fans who love the latest viral trend can save with Home Bargains' version Statement bowls are having something of a moment this year, with home decor fans going wild for fluted bowls and similar wave designs. One standout product was B&M's scalloped-edge fluted bowl. The viral £6 decor amazed shoppers when it hit shelves in early 2025. It was lauded by shoppers who hailed it as the 'most stunning thing they've seen'. Tesco's "lovely" £4 bowl also wowed fans earlier this year, racking up thousands of views on social media and plenty of praise for its "pretty" shape. For fans of wave bowls, there's no shortage of options, then. Countless household brands have offered their own take on the trend. To share another example, H&M currently offers a Large stoneware bowl with a fluted design for £29.99. Meanwhile, other more expensive options include Northome's £495 Marble Decorative Bowl White and Neptune's £95 Malpas Scalloped Marble Bowl, though stock availability varies. In good news for shoppers who are still searching for their preferred version, Home Bargains has introduced a waved ceramic bowl with a similar look for £7.99. The trendy white bowl wowed social media users when @homeslovehighstreet featured it in a product roundup on TikTok. The popular account included the bowl in a post about Home Bargains' latest decor range, and shoppers loved what they saw. Replying to the post, a fan said: "Love these." Another wrote: "I'm tempted now." Someone else praised: "Oh I love that bowl." A different commenter agreed: "I love that bowl." While it looks like several other products, the bowl arguably looks very similar to Bramley & White's £30 The Ruffle bowl. They share a similar colour and fluted shape. Both styles feature a small wave design, whereas others are designed with different edges that affect the overall look of the bowls, offering a somewhat different look. Despite these similarities, shoppers should note that each bowl will differ in material and construction. For instance, Bramley & White's bowl is handmade. It also looks like the pricier version is deeper than its Home Bargains' counterpart. The product description for the Bramley & White bowl says: "A stunning copy of the hugely popular marble ruffle bowl. This piece is made from resin and finished in an off white with up and down curve details." The bowl is currently sold out, suggesting its popular with shoppers. Unfortunately, for shoppers keen to know more about the Home Bargains bowl, the retailer's website does not currently have a listing. Nonetheless, it could offer an impressive saving for fans of the trend looking for a similar style for less. What's more, it could be ideal for shoppers who missed out before, given several of the trending bowls are currently out of stock, including the Bramley & White version.

Iceland supermarkets make major change to checkouts that will spark controversy
Iceland supermarkets make major change to checkouts that will spark controversy The technology is being tested in two of the retailer's stores and could be rolled out further if the trials are successful Cameras embedded into the checkout process will examine shoppers' features Iceland is rolling out facial recognition technology at its tills in a revolutionary overhaul designed to curb theft and safeguard employees, with two branches already trialling the advanced system. Cameras embedded into the checkout process will examine shoppers' features and cross-reference them with a database of individuals known for causing disturbances, alerting staff when there's a match. Following successful trials, Iceland might introduce this system more broadly among its locations. Facewatch, the surveillance software, is already employed by numerous retail chains including Home Bargains, BandM, and several Frasers Group brands such as Flannels, House of Fraser, Sports Direct, and Evans Cycles. An official from Iceland expressed: "Following a robust due diligence process, we can confirm that our facial recognition trial is now live in two stores and will expand further this year." He continued: "This is part of our continued investment into tackling violent retail crime and protecting the safety of our colleagues and customers." Article continues below The early part of the year saw Iceland announce intentions to inaugurate 20 additional Iceland and Food Warehouse shops, along with the introduction of a grand new £100 million distribution hub occupying 500,000 square feet in Warrington. This large distribution centre located at Omega Park Site in Warrington began operations with GXO as a partner in February, providing goods to around 350 Iceland outlets throughout Wales, the north west of England, and the Scottish borders. In December, Iceland introduced an initiative to support the senior community by offering a 10% discount every Tuesday to those aged over 60 at both Iceland and The Food Warehouse stores, with no minimum spend required. Customers can avail of the discount by showing a valid form of identification such as a senior bus pass, driving licence, senior railcard, or freedom pass. Article continues below Iceland's managing director, Richard Walker, expressed his contentment with the success of the scheme: "We are so pleased with how well the over-60s discount has been received by the public and love hearing stories from customers who are benefiting from the discount." He further commented on the ongoing financial challenges: "The cost of living crisis continues to cause distress in the everyday lives of these customers and that's why we want to keep doing what we can to support them."

Scots country singer reveals awkward way he found out music legend wanted to collab
He will play the biggest show of his life next month COUNTRY singer Kevin McGuire has revealed he was shopping in Home Bargains when Marti Pellow asked him to perform at Edinburgh Castle. The musician was stocking up on toiletries from the discount store near his flat in Glasgow's Govan district when he got a life-changing email from the former Wet Wet Wet star. 4 Kevin had a blast singing with Sir Rod Stewart Credit: Supplied 4 He's building up towards the biggest gig of his life Credit: John Kirkby 4 Marti Pellow recruited Kevin for his blockbuster gig 4 Home Bargains will always be a special spot for Kevin now Credit: Getty It means Kevin will be swapping pub and club gigs for the biggest show of his life at the iconic landmark next month. He says: 'I was buying razor blades and other bits as I was just about to leave on a 10-day tour of my own. 'I had missed three frantic calls from my manager and it was only when I was at the checkout I finally saw his message saying, 'Read the email Marti Pellow has sent you!'. 'Marti had written this lovely message saying he really enjoyed my music and even said I had a great voice, which is a huge compliment coming from him. 'He asked me to open the show for him but said he hates the term 'support act' and was instead inviting me to be his 'special guest' then said he would wait for my answer. I paid for my goods and emailed the promoter saying the answer was, 'Yes, yes, yes and yes' then ran all the way home. 'But I took half an hour to compose myself before replying to Marti himself, thanking him for this amazing opportunity.' Reaching this point has been a long slog for Kevin, who worked behind several bars while pursuing his dream. And he believes he had to wait for music tastes to change before his brand of country pop became popular. Kevin, 32, explains: 'I've been doing country music since I was at school, when I fell in love with the genre and with songwriting. 'I loved the honesty of country and that famous phrase that it's just 'three chords and the truth'. But it was hard to get a gig as a new country singer at the time. Marti Pellow pranked by Jamie Oliver in hilarious restaurant stitch-up 'Back then I would go online and see who was top of the country charts in America, and that's where I discovered artists like Taylor Swift before she moved into pop. 'Now it seems everyone is trying to get on board, with Beyonce's country album Cowboy Carter and Post Malone's F-1 Trillion last year. 'It's led to more country bars popping up in Glasgow, and more recognition for local country artists. So it feels like the last 10 years of slog are finally starting to pay off.' Kevin's first break came when Clyde 1 DJ George Bowie did one of his GBX dance mixes of Kevin's cover of country classic Wagon Wheel. The boost to his profile means he can now sell out 300-capacity venues such as Glasgow's Saint Judes. And major promoter Regular Music, which is staging the Edinburgh Castle concerts, is now backing him as one of Scotland's rising stars. Kevin already got a taste of the high life when he went on tour with his manager, John McLaughlin, whose own band Johnny Mac & The Faithful were supporting Sir Rod Stewart. He says: 'John has been my mentor for years and has worked with me on my songwriting. One day he called and said he's going on tour with Rod and wanted me to come too, as I was doing a lot of the pre-production work for Johnny Mac & The Faithful. KEVIN will return to the capital later this summer when he performs his own stage show at the Edinburgh Festival. The singer has put together a Fringe production called Never Mind The Nashvilles, about the perils of growing up in Scotland as a budding country singer. And he reckons his story is a real-life version of the 2018 hit film Wild Rose, which starred Jessie Buckley as a Scot who dreams of performing in Nashville. He says: 'Never Mind the Nashvilles is about my journey trying to do country music in Scotland, and all the struggles that come with that. 'So it's songs and stories as I tell people how I got into the music in the first place and the slog of trying to get a break. 'I hope it will be a good laugh as well as a sort of truth-telling.' He adds: 'Wild Rose kind of sums up everything I've been through. Jessie plays a Scottish country singer desperate to make it to Nashville but when she finally gets there she realises, 'Wait a minute, I can still do country music in Scotland'. 'That's what I'm hoping to do – build the country scene in Scotland where singers can thrive instead of having to look to America.' Never Mind The Nashvilles runs from August 15 to 17 at the Voodoo Rooms. "I wasn't in his band but some of my songs were being played by John. That was the first time I had heard songs I'd written being played in arenas — it was a special time.' He adds: 'Because Rod and John are good friends, Rod really looked after us and made sure we had the same catering he did. 'It was amazing as we'd rock up to the venue three hours beforehand and have the most incredible five-star buffet you can imagine. You'd be having fillet steak for lunch. It was amazing.' Kevin even got to perform a duet of Rod's 1971 classic Maggie May with the 80-year-old rocker — in a Glasgow boozer rather than on stage. He says: 'When Rod comes to Celtic games he always goes to Murphy's Irish Bar with John afterwards. Inevitably it ends with a sing-song and on the night I was there I ended up singing Maggie May with Rod. 'I wasn't nervous at all as it's one of my favourite songs — I must have sung it thousands of times before.' Asked if Rod passed on any words of wisdom, Kevin says: 'Not specifically, but I learned just seeing how he takes care of himself with vocal warm ups and things like that. And also he treats his band and the crew really well. But the best thing is the way Rod still really enjoys what he does. 'I think that's why I'm not nervous when I perform. I figure there's no point being a bag of nerves when you go on stage because you've worked so hard to get there in the first place.' Now Kevin who, along with his West End star sister Emma Ralston, was raised in Glasgow by his college principal dad Martin and uni worker mum Caroline, is preparing for the biggest gig of his life when he warms up the 8,500 crowd for Marti Pellow's Castle concert. He says: 'When I got the news in Home Bargains I called my mum as I ran home. She was squealing with delight as she's a huge Marti fan. 'When I wrote back to Marti I just praised him for being one of the few male artists from the west coast of Scotland who is still pushing the envelope. 'It's a bucket-list gig to get and I'll never forget where I was the day I was asked to do it.' Marti Pellow Love Is All Around 30th anniversary tour comes to Edinburgh Castle on Saturday, July 5. B&M's 'massive' new £12 outdoor candle helps 'repel mosquitoes'
Shoppers looking to banish mosquitoes from their garden might like B&M's 'massive' candle With more warm weather on the way, plenty of Brits will be enjoying the sunshine in their gardens. Unfortunately, the summer months also see some gardens flooded with mosquitoes, leading to an increase in itchy bites. Many shoppers invest in citronella products, hoping to help ward off insects. The Spruce explains: "Citronella candles are moderately effective at repelling mosquitoes but only in the immediate area surrounding the candle. The closer you are to the candle, the less you will be the victim of a mosquito bite." As such, homeowners are advised not to rely solely on the products: "You should think of citronella products, including tiki torches, as just one layer of protection against mosquitoes. Citronella candles do not keep mosquitoes out of your yard and they do nothing to prevent mosquitoes from multiplying." Nonetheless, they're popular with shoppers who often use the candles alongside other measures, such as bug repellent. One option could be B&M's new "massive" £12 candle. The candle certainly impressed one shopper who showcased the candle on a Facebook page for 'Bargain Lovers'. The post said: "Massive citronella scented glass candle spotted at B&M." As seen in the post, the Paradiso candle is purple in colour, and it is citronella scented. The product tag says it has 120 hours of burn time, and it is for outdoor use only. Replying to the post, someone praised: "I need to get one of these." A keen shopper said: "I like this." Another wrote: "This is nice," and the friend they tagged agreed, writing: "That is nice." While the candle is not currently available on B&M's website, there is another option. For £1, there's a Mini Glass Citronella Candle With Cork Lid, available in white or yellow. The product description says: "This useful Mini Glass Citronella Candle With Cork Lid is a must have for your garden this summer. Keeps away irritating bugs and insects. Part of the Simply Garden trend." Elsewhere, Home Bargains offers a selection of citronella products, including candles and reed diffusers. For instance, there's a £9.99 The Outdoor Edit Earthed Long Wooden Citronella Candle. The product description says: "Light up your outdoor space with The Outdoor Edit Earthed Long Wooden Citronella Candle! This charming wooden candle not only adds rustic flair but also keeps those pesky mosquitoes at bay, making your evenings more enjoyable." There's also a £7.99 The Outdoor Edit Citronella Ceramic Candle Jar, £1.99 The Outdoor Living Collection Torch Citronella Candle, £1.49 Citronella Tealights 24 Pack, and £1.99 The Outdoor Living Citronella Reed Diffuser 100ml. The product description for the diffuser says: "Transform your space with The Outdoor Living Citronella Reed Diffuser! This 100ml beauty not only fills the air with a refreshing citrusy scent but also helps keep pesky insects at bay, making it perfect for any indoor or outdoor setting."
