Delhi hospitals, police stations to be paired up for faster emergency response
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Friday approved the linking and re-distribution of police stations to designated hospitals for handling Medico Legal Cases (MLCs) and conducting Postmortem Examinations (PMEs). The initiative, aligned with the recently enacted Criminal Justice Acts, is aimed at ensuring quicker and more effective medical and forensic responses in cases such as road accidents, sexual assault and other emergencies requiring urgent medico-legal approval came after a comprehensive interdepartmental review involving Delhi Police, the Home Department and the Health and Family Welfare Department of the GNCTD. Initially, Delhi Police submitted a consolidated list of police stations with their existing and proposed hospital linkages. The Health Department then developed a proposal addressing delays and inefficiencies in current medico-legal procedures.A committee under the Health Department conducted a detailed study and recommended optimal pairings between police stations and hospitals to reduce emergency response times and streamline medico-legal protocols. These proposals were vetted for feasibility by the Home Department in consultation with police and healthcare the Law Department reviewed the draft notification and made necessary legal amendments. The final re-distribution has been implemented under Section 194(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) Act, measure is expected to strengthen coordination between law enforcement and healthcare systems, enabling timely medical aid and medico-legal documentation. NEW DELHI: Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved a proposal concerning the linking and re-distribution of police stations to hospitals across the national capital for handling Medico Legal Cases (MLCs) and conducting post mortem examinations, L-G office said in a statement on Friday. This initiative is designed to ensure quicker, more efficient medical and forensic support to victims involved in cases such as rape, road accidents and other emergencies requiring immediate medico-legal intervention, officials said. The approval follows an extensive review and collaboration between Delhi Police, the Home Department and the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Delhi government, as per the statement. The process began with Delhi Police submitting a consolidated list of police stations along with their corresponding designated hospitals as well as alternative hospitals.

Gujarat: Bhupendra Patel monitors Rath Yatra in real-time from CM dashboard
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 27 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday monitored the real-time progress and organisation of the 148th Jagannath Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad. Commencing the Rath Yatra from the Jagannath Temple in the morning with the Pahind ceremony, he closely monitored the Rath Yatra route in the afternoon via a video wall, after reaching the Chief Minister's residence. According to an official release, he gathered insights about the location of the chariot, the surveillance of the Rath Yatra, and the security arrangements being implemented by the police using AI and drone technology. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister and Home Department MK Das, Director General of Police Vikas Sahay, along with senior officials from the police, municipal corporation, and ICT teams. Meanwhile, Patel today stated that education is the foundational pillar of a developed society and a progressive state. He emphasised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always given special importance to schools, teachers, and education. On the second day of the Kanya Kelavani Mahotsav and Shala Praveshotsav 2025, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Ashadhi Beej, Chief Minister Patel visited the Primary School in Pundrasan village, Gandhinagar district. He welcomed 197 children into the school by gifting them educational kits. The Chief Minister also interacted affectionately with the young children, encouraging them to pursue learning with enthusiasm, said the release. CM highlighted that to raise awareness about the importance and necessity of education and to build an educated future generation in Gujarat, Prime Minister Modi launched the statewide Shala Praveshotsav initiative in 2003. As a result of this sustained effort, parents and communities today have come to understand and value the role of education deeply. The Chief Minister stated that the Gujarat Government has launched several education-focused schemes to ensure no child is deprived of schooling due to financial challenges. He urged parents to utilise these schemes and take responsibility for their children's education. He noted that government schools are now equipped with modern facilities, such as smart classrooms, and that improved teaching methods have led many students to shift from private to government schools. The Chief Minister also highlighted that communities are actively working to promote education, with the state government extending full support to such efforts. (ANI)

Awareness rally marks International Day against Drug Abuse in Yadgir
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed in Yadgir on Thursday through an awareness rally taken out from Subhas Chandra Chowk to Lumbini Garden and staging a drama there. The programme was organised by the Home Department. Deputy Commissioner B. Susheela, who participated as chief guest in the rally, said that consumption of drugs not only impacts human beings but also is against the interests of the nation. 'Good habits can bring good changes among human beings. A bad habit like consumption of drugs and alcohol will damage the human body. We all should stand against such activities and protect valuable lives for the future,' Dr. Susheela said. Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar said that now-a-days people claiming to be from reputed families are consuming drugs and material that intoxicate to beat stress and for temporary satisfaction. The Home Department is taking strict steps to prevent drug menace. 'Nevertheless, the general public can raise complaints through an app developed by the department,' Mr. Shankar said. Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat Lavish Ordia also spoke about people who are addicted to alcohol and drugs avoiding family and friends. Proper vigilance is needed to prevent them from such addiction, he added. Kumari Shilpa performed yogasanas, while a drama was staged to create awareness against drugs. District Health Officer Mahesh Biradar, physician Veeresh Jaka, Senior Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations Department Suleman Nadaf, Deputy Director of Mines and Geology Purnima, Deputy Superintendents of Police Bharat Kumar and Javeed Inamdar, Raju Bavihalli and others were present.

Man wrongly jailed in missing wife's 'murder case' seeks Rs 5 cr compensation
A Mysuru man falsely accused of murdering his wife, who was later found alive, has approached the High Court seeking Rs 5 crore as compensation for wrongful imprisonment and loss of reputation. The petitioner, Suresh—a member of a tribal community—was arrested and jailed for 18 months after his wife Mallige went missing from Basavanahalli in Kushalnagar, under the jurisdiction of Madikeri Rural Police. The case dates back to 2020, when he filed a missing person complaint regarding his wife from Basavanahalli in Kushalnagar, Madikeri. Based on skeletal remains later recovered in the area, Bettadapura police registered a case and charged Suresh under Sections 498A (cruelty), 302 (murder), and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code, accusing him of mentally and physically harassing his wife and killing her on October 19, 2020. Despite forensic reports showing no genetic match between the bones and Mallige, police proceeded with charges. A chargesheet was filed, and Suresh was imprisoned. The trial court later acquitted Suresh in April 2025 after Mallige was found alive and seen dining at a restaurant in Madikeri with another man. Despite the trial court clearing him of all charges, Suresh argues that the court failed to formally recognize him as a 'victim' in its ruling. Following the acquittal, the trial court had directed the Home Department to pay Suresh Rs one lakh as compensation and asked the Bettadapura police to remove his name from the FIR. The court also recommended departmental inquiry against officers involved in the faulty investigation—Inspector B.G. Prakash, DYSP Jitendra Kumar, and Inspectors Prakash Yattimani and B.G. Mahesh—for tampering with records and fabricating evidence. In his High Court petition, Suresh contended that the Rs1 lakh compensation was insufficient. 'I have lost 1.5 years of my life behind bars for a crime I never committed. I suffered severe social stigma and loss of dignity. The government must pay Rs5 crore in damages and take action against the erring officers,' he said. Suresh has also sought that official records reflect his status as a victim rather than an accused. The High Court is expected to take up the case for hearing shortly. His petition argues that despite having clear evidence of his innocence — including DNA reports disproving the police's claims — he was wrongfully incarcerated, causing irreparable damage to his social standing and mental health. The High Court is expected to take up the petition for detailed hearing in the coming days. The case raises critical questions about police accountability, misuse of power, and the mechanisms in place for compensating individuals who are wrongfully imprisoned due to flawed investigations. If admitted, this petition could set a significant precedent for wrongful arrest compensation cases in Karnataka and across India.
