‘He suffered a heart attack': Aamir Khan reveals how his 1st wife Reena's family responded to their marriage
Aamir Khan, Bollywood's perfectionist, opened up about his first marriage to Reena Dutta in a candid conversation with Lallantop . Their union, which took place in 1986, was not an easy path. Aamir was not even 21 when he decided to take the plunge. To ensure he was acting within the bounds of legality, he studied the Special Marriage Act before going ahead. On April 18, 1986—his 21st birthday—he and Reena tied the knot in a court marriage. The witnesses included his friend Satya (of Satyamev Jayate fame), Satya's wife Swati, and his cousin Anand. However, the couple's joy was overshadowed by familial disapproval, especially from Reena's side. When Reena informed her sister Anu, it triggered shock and turmoil within her family. Aamir felt it was time to disclose everything to his own parents. When he invited Reena to his house, his family believed she was just his girlfriend. But when the truth unfolded, emotions took over—especially among the women in his family. Unexpectedly, Aamir's father, known for his temper, embraced him and offered his support. Rejection and a Four-Month Silence With his own family accepting the marriage, Aamir then decided to help Reena reconcile with hers. But things didn't go as planned. Reena's mother outright refused to let her daughter return home. Her words were painful, insisting that Reena was no longer part of the family. The emotional blow left Reena devastated. Aamir remembered those four months as one of the most trying times of their relationship. In a rare moment, Reena's mother called them secretly when her husband wasn't home, hinting at a thaw in the tension. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 3BHK Transformation Possible for ₹4.5 Lakh? HomeLane Get Quote Undo A Heart Attack That Mended Bonds A significant turning point came when Reena's father suffered a heart attack. Aamir and Reena rushed to the hospital. Inside the ICU, emotions overwhelmed both father and daughter. Though he didn't speak at first, Aamir respectfully touched his feet. Over time, the coldness faded. Eventually, Reena's father expressed regret for not meeting Aamir earlier. He admitted that Aamir was the kind of man he could never have found for his daughter on his own. Struggles After the Divorce Though their relationship began with intense passion and rebellion, it eventually came to an end. The couple parted ways in 2002, soon after the release of their milestone film Lagaan. Aamir later shared that the emotional fallout from the divorce led him into a battle with alcoholism, a difficult chapter he navigated privately. A Romance Straight Out of the Movies Aamir and Reena's love story had all the makings of a film script. As young neighbors, they spent countless moments exchanging glances from their windows. Aamir mustered the courage to confess his feelings, but Reena initially declined. Still, he persisted, despite the heartbreak. Finally, Reena came around and revealed she too shared the same feelings. Their romance blossomed after that moment of vulnerability. During an interview with India Today back in 1999, he had said, 'I spent a little more time than natural in front of my window. I just told her that I loved her and I hoped that she felt the same about me." He added, 'And as it happened, she said that she didn't, so I was devastated that this can't be happening to me again. I'm not the kind of guy who gives up easily. I didn't take no for an answer. After two days she met me, and she said, I still feel the same. I really avoided the window. I was heartbroken, and I was trying to stay away from her and get over her.' A New Chapter with Familiar Themes After years away from the spotlight, Aamir recently returned to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual follow-up to his acclaimed film Taare Zameen Par, continuing his legacy of emotionally driven storytelling that mirrors the highs and lows of his personal journey.

Kolkata: The state Transport Department issued fresh directives mandating vehicle owners to physically confirm ownership transfer before a designated official. The move is aimed at tightening regulations around the resale of used vehicles and curb unauthorised transactions. Dedicated counters at Motor Vehicle offices will operate every first working day of the week for this purpose, though confirmations may also be made on any other working day during office hours. Highlighting the legal responsibility of vehicle owners under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the department has now made it mandatory for vehicle owners to verify the credentials of used car dealers before handing over their vehicles. The fresh directives outline the key requirements, including (a) verification of dealer authorisation: before transfer, vehicle owners must verify Form-29B under Rule-55A to ensure the dealer is authorised to handle used cars. (b) Record retention: owners must collect and retain a copy of Form-29C under Rule-55B at the time of handing over the vehicle and documents. (c) Dealer obligations: dealers must apply electronically for authorisation through Form-29A and strictly comply with the provisions of the department's earlier order dated March 29, 2023. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Get stunning home interiors at HomeLane. From the date of taking possession to the date of resale, all statutory liabilities, including taxes, must be cleared by the dealer. Dealers must also ensure that the registered owner has cleared all dues up to the date of transfer confirmation. Recently, some vehicles, which changed multiple hands without changing the ownership, were widely used for committing crimes. The new guidelines, through an official notification issued by transport secretary, Saumitra Mohan, come in the wake of reports indicating widespread non-compliance among registered vehicle dealers and online resale platforms.

Modern technology will help tackle the challenges in this sector," he said. Live Events Sharma directed officials to expand skill training in agriculture to ensure qualitative growth and generate ample employment opportunities for the youth. Supreme Court meets Friday to decide 6 remaining cases, including birthright citizenship
The Supreme Court is meeting Friday to decide the final six cases of its term, including President Donald Trump's bid to enforce his executive order denying birthright citizenship to U.S.-born children of parents who are in the country illegally. The justices take the bench at 10 a.m. for their last public session until the start of their new term on Oct. 6. The birthright citizenship order has been blocked nationwide by three lower courts. The Trump administration made an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court to narrow the court orders that have prevented the citizenship changes from taking effect anywhere in the U.S. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dhoni's Exclusive Home Interior Choice? HomeLane Get Quote Undo The issue before the justices is whether to limit the authority of judges to issue nationwide injunctions, which have plagued both Republican and Democratic administrations in the past 10 years. These nationwide court orders have emerged as an important check on Trump's efforts and a source of mounting frustration to the Republican president and his allies. Live Events Decisions also are expected in several other important cases. The court seemed likely during arguments in April to side with Maryland parents in a religious rights case over LGBTQ storybooks in public schools. Parents in the Montgomery County school system, in suburban Washington, want to be able to pull their children out of lessons that use the storybooks, which the county added to the curriculum to better reflect the district's diversity. The school system at one point allowed parents to remove their children from those lessons, but then reversed course because it found the opt-out policy to be disruptive. Sex education is the only area of instruction with an opt-out provision in the county's schools. The justices also are weighing a three-year battle over congressional districts in Louisiana that is making its second trip to the Supreme Court. Before the court now is a map that created a second Black majority congressional district among Louisiana's six seats in the House of Representatives. The district elected a Black Democrat in 2024. Lower courts have struck down two Louisiana congressional maps since 2022 and the justices are considering whether to send state lawmakers back to the map-drawing board for a third time. The case involves the interplay between race and politics in drawing political boundaries in front of a conservative-led court that has been skeptical of considerations of race in public life. At arguments in March, several of the court's conservative justices suggested they could vote to throw out the map and make it harder, if not impossible, to bring redistricting lawsuits under the Voting Rights Act. Free speech rights are at the center of a case over a Texas law aimed at blocking kids from seeing online pornography. Texas is among more than a dozen states with age verification laws. The states argue the laws are necessary as smartphones have made access to online porn, including hardcore obscene material, almost instantaneous. The question for the court is whether the measure infringes on the constitutional rights of adults as well. The Free Speech Coalition, an adult-entertainment industry trade group, agrees that children shouldn't be seeing pornography. But it says the Texas law is written too broadly and wrongly affects adults by requiring them to submit personal identifying information online that is vulnerable to hacking or tracking.

India's economy holds its ground amid global crosswinds: RBI bulletin
The Indian economy remains resilient despite global economic, trade, and geopolitical uncertainties, according to an article "State of the economy" in Reserve Bank of India's June bulletin. Domestic inflation remains benign with headline inflation remaining below the target for the fourth consecutive month in May, the bulletin said. "Record domestic crop production in 2024-25 agricultural season is translating into a sharp and sustained easing of food price inflation . Steady core excluding food and fuel inflation, with indications of some softening after excluding the impact of volatile and elevated gold and silver prices, indicates that underlying inflationary pressures remain muted." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dhoni's Exclusive Home Interior Choice?
