'Lord' Shardul Thakur Touches Jasprit Bumrah's Feet At Lord's, Video Goes Viral
Last Updated: Bumrah will lead India's fast bowling attack in the third Test against England, which is set to be played at Lord's from July 10 to 14. After securing a famous win by 336 runs over England at Edgbaston last week, the Indian men's cricket team will take on Ben Stokes & Co. in the third Test of the ongoing five-match series at Lord's. The red-ball match at the Home of Cricket will start on Thursday (July 10). The Indian team will be high in confidence for the game at Lord's after getting the better of England for the first time ever in Birmingham. Ahead of the match at the Home of Cricket, Indian players are training hard in London, and in a video shared by BCCI on X on Wednesday (July 9), bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur can be seen touching world No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah's feet. The clip of Thakur's grand gesture for Bumrah is now going viral on the internet. ' Lord, dekho Lord's, Lord, Lord's, Lord," Bumrah said in a viral video. ' Tab he Jasprit Bumrah ke pair padne padte hai," Thakur said. ' Ye inka (Thakur) badappan hai. Mai inke sath khada hua, wahi mai jeet gaya," Bumrah added. The world's No.1 Test bowler is back at the @HomeOfCricket, and mind you, he knows his stats really well 😀 #TeamIndia #ENGvIND | @Jaspritbumrah93 — BCCI (@BCCI) July 9, 2025 In the video shared by BCCI with the caption, 'The world's No. 1 Test bowler is back at the @HomeOfCricket, and mind you, he knows his stats really well," Bumrah can be seen recalling his unbeaten 90-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Mohammed Shami in the 2021 India-England Lord's Test. ' Maine aur Shami bhai ne… (50 banaya tha naa Shami bhai ne) maine 35 not out," Bumrah can be seen chatting with Abhimanyu Easwaran. Bumrah, who is India's best all-format bowler at present times, missed the second Test at Edgbaston last week as part of his workload management but is all set to make a comeback at Lord's. His participation in the Lord's Test was confirmed by India's Test captain, Shubman Gill, during the post-match presentation ceremony at Edgbaston. Bumrah, in all likelihood, will replace Prasidh Krishna in India's playing XI. Krishna played in the first two Tests and dismissed a total of six batters but failed to impress with his bowling. In Bumrah's absence, Akash Deep played for India in the second Test, and the 28-year-old fast bowler from Bihar picked up a total of 10 wickets. He finished with figures of 4 for 88 in the first innings and 6 for 99 in the second. Get latest Cricket news, live score and match results on News18. No doubt for Topley that Bumrah is greatest bowler ever
Reece Topley has played with some of the finest bowlers around, but none come close to Jasprit Bumrah, who he describes as the 'greatest ever'. The Indian superstar may have been on the losing side at Headingley during the first Test against England, but Bumrah's first innings showing, with figures of 5-110, was yet another masterclass in fast bowling. It is something that England international Topley has seen up close, having played with Bumrah at Mumbai Indians during the most recent edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). And while there is often discussion around the best batters and bowlers of all time, for Topley, when it comes to the latter, there isn't any. 'For me, I don't think it's a debate,' said Topley, speaking at Lord's Taverners' National Table Cricket Finals Day – a fully inclusive, adapted version of the game aimed at young people living with a wide range of learning and physical disabilities played on a table tennis table. 'It's probably the rare occasion in sport where you get a lot of people agreeing on the greatest ever. And we're seeing with Bumrah there's no real caveat that anyone else has thrown into the ring either. 'He's in a league of his own in the present day. There are the greats of yesteryear that me, and people my age, never really saw play, but watching some of those players, Bumrah, he's right up there with those people, which is incredible. 'T20 is obviously a different form to Tests, but spending time with him at the IPL, he's humble, he's competitive, he's got it all. He's a superstar in every sense of the word.' Brendon McCullum's outfit took a 1-0 series lead in West Yorkshire on Tuesday after chasing down 371 – England's second-highest successful pursuit in Test cricket. Front and centre of England's charge was opener Ben Duckett, whose brilliant and destructive 149 blunted India's bowling attack and broke the back of their target. 🏆 Congratulations to your new Table Cricket champions… @WGSB! Another fantastic day at the @HomeOfCricket - thank you to everyone involved for making this a special day alongside the wider Disability Cricket Day with @ECB_cricket and @MCCOfficial 🙌 — Lord's Taverners (@LordsTaverners) June 25, 2025 By the time the Nottinghamshire man departed - caught in the covers trying to dispatch the ball for what would have been his 22nd boundary - his exploits had well and truly swung proceedings in England's favour, with Jamie Smith later clobbering a six to seal victory. It was a second innings assault that not even Bumrah could stop - the quick failing to take a wicket during his 19 overs - and Topley was full of praise for the way England negated his threat. Like all greats, they do have days where they show they're human after all. 'It's incredible that on the last day, he [Bumrah] didn't take a wicket,' Topley continued. 'And that in itself is such a rare occurrence. 'But that's a testament to how well England played him and how well they performed.' There were plenty of other impressive performances throughout the match too. Ollie Pope's first-innings hundred, Harry Brook's destructive 99, Zak Crawley's 65 during his first-wicket partnership of 188 with Duckett second time around and Josh Tongue's match haul of seven wickets to name but a few. And Topley believes the quality on show in Leeds sets the rest of the series up for more absorbing cricket to come. 'Headingley always seems to throw up these amazing chases, and credit has to go to the pitch there, it's famous for its day-five finishes,' he added. 'And the cricket that was played on it was second to none. 'It was entertaining from ball one on day one, right the way up until the finish. 'Hopefully it sets up for an amazing series and they'll be a lot more incredible cricket to be played.' On his own return to the international set-up, Topley who last played for England in November 2024 and is currently enjoying a fine run of form with Surrey, said: 'It takes two to tango. 'I definitely know I've got the ability, so we'll have to see.'

Middlesex confirm interest in ‘iconic player of his generation' Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli could yet be seen batting in England once more after Middlesex confirmed they are keen to lure India's recently retired galáctico to Lord's. The 36-year-old called time on his stellar Test career at the start of the week, ruling himself out of the five-Test series in England that begins at Headingley next month. But notably his statement said nothing about drawing a line through first-class cricket. Related: Beyond the runs: Virat Kohli's obsessive intensity left indelible mark on Test cricket | Jonathan Liew Middlesex have form when it comes to using Lord's as a pull for star overseas talent, having signed South Africa's AB de Villiers for the T20 Blast in 2019 and attracted New Zealand's Kane Williamson over for the second half of this season. Both deals came about in collaboration with MCC – Williamson will also play for London Spirit – and officials there have indicated they would be happy to similarly split the cost of any deal for Kohli. There is a belief that, as someone steeped in the sport's history, Kohli is keen to play at the Home of Cricket again. Alan Coleman, director of cricket at Middlesex, said: 'Virat Kohli is the most iconic player of his generation, so of course we are interested in having that conversation.' Still contracted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India and playing in the Indian Premier League, Kohli is barred from featuring in domestic T20 cricket overseas, ruling him out of the Blast and the Hundred. But, as with other Indian players, he could play in the County Championship or the Metro Bank Cup. Promotion-chasing Middlesex do not play at Lord's during the mid-summer block of championship matches and have just one of their Metro Bank Cup fixtures there in August. They then return in September for Division Two games against Derbyshire and Gloucestershire. Were Kohli to play that final block of red-ball cricket, which also includes a game against Lancashire at Old Trafford and thus a possible reunion with Jimmy Anderson, it would form something of a fantasy middle-order partnership with Williamson. Even at the end of the season, Lord's would expect this to a draw a bumper crowd. Kohli has a home in London and has stated his interest in playing in the County Championship, signing for Surrey before India's tour of England in 2018. A neck injury saw the deal fall through but he went on to enjoy a stellar series and be named one of Wisden's five cricketers of the year.
