Cal Raleigh to participate in Home Run Derby
Major League Baseball announced today that Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh will participate in the 2025 T-Mobile Home Run Derby on Monday, July 14, at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia. Raleigh, 28, leads the Major Leagues with 32 home runs this season, making history as the first catcher and switch-hitter to reach 30 homers before the All-Star Break. Advertisement 'I'm excited to represent the Mariners and our fanbase at the [Home Run] Derby,' Raleigh said. 'It will be extra special for me getting to do it in Atlanta, where I spent a lot of time playing baseball as a kid.' Cal Raleigh's father, Todd Raleigh, will be his pitcher for the event. Todd, who throws right-handed, has a background as a head baseball coach at Western Carolina University and the University of Tennessee. Raleigh aims to become the first catcher to win the Home Run Derby, an event that began in 1985. He joins a list of Mariners players who have participated, including Hall of Famers Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez. Ken Griffey Jr. remains the only Mariners player to win the Derby, achieving this feat three times. Julio Rodríguez, Raleigh's teammate, holds the single-round home run record under the current format. In 79 games this season, Raleigh is batting .275 with 69 RBI, 58 runs scored, and a .380 on-base percentage, showcasing his impressive performance. Cal Raleigh's participation in the Home Run Derby highlights his exceptional season and offers him a chance to make history as the first catcher to win the event.

Dillion Dingler, Kerry Carpenter homer to lift Tigers over Athletics 11-4
Dillon Dingler hit a three-run home run, Kerry Carpenter added a two-run homer and the Detroit Tigers beat the Athletics 11-4 on Tuesday night. Riley Greene had four hits, including a double, two RBIs and scored twice for the Tigers and Wenceel Pérez added two hits and two RBIs. Greene has 45 RBIs since May 1, second in the American League behind Seattle's Cal Raleigh (50), and is batting .439 with 18 hits and 17 RBIs over the last 10 games. Tarik Skubal (9-2) gave up four runs on six hits with eight strikeouts in six innings. The 28-year-old has won 10 consecutive home games, dating to Aug. 13, the longest active streak of its kind by a starter in MLB. Greene and Pérez each hit a two-out single before Zach McKinstry followed with a two-run single in the seventh and Greene's two RBI single in the eighth capped the scoring. Brent Rooker and Denzel Clarke hit two-run home runs in the first and second innings, respectively. First pitch, which had been scheduled for 5:40 p.m. local time, was delayed about two hours due to inclement weather. Gleyber Torres hit a one-out single and advanced to third on Greene's double before Pérez added a two-run double off starter Luis Severino (2-8) in the third. McKinstry was hit by the next pitch and, after Parker Meadows popped out, Dingler's home run gave the Tigers a 7-4 lead. The Athletics went into the game 32-48 (.400) overall — tied for the third-lowest winning percentage in the majors — the club's best record after 80 games over the last four years. Jacob Lopez (1-4, 4.25 ERA) takes the mound for the Athletics against Jack Flaherty (5-8, 4.83) as the series continues Wednesday. ___ AP MLB:

Daily MLB Home Run Prop, Thursday 6/19 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Everyone knows fans dig the longball — so every day I post my favorite Home Run calls for a fun, low-risk approach to baseball betting. START TIME: Astros at Athletics 10:05 pm EST, Sutter Health Park in Sacramento At this point in the season, we've established our basic foundation for sniffing out home runs. Identify the pitchers working up in the zone with limited stuff against hitters that lift and pull batted balls in above-average contextual environments. Speaking of ideal hitting environments, the Sacramento Athletics, formerly of Oakland by way of Las Vegas, spend half their games in AAA Sutter Health Park — and the results match your likely expectations. The A's minor-league home is a top-5 ballpark this season in terms of home runs (109), home run-to-flyball (17.7%), and barrel-to-home run rates (52.9%). Advertisement Tonight's temperature's forecasted around 80° F and my favorite sport meteorologist Kevin Roth's bullish the prospect for offense, saying "Not nearly as toasty as last night, but winds are blowing out to left at 10-15mph, and it's still decently warm. I like it for bats (as I almost always do)". The Athletics host Houston's Colton Gordon, a 26-year-old rookie LHP with a track record for homers in the upper levels. Topping out at 91 mph, Gordon lacks swing-and-miss (19.5% Whiff, 98 Stuff+), instead relying on top-flight command metrics (30.9% Ball, 3.6% BB) to get by. Bottom line is the ball's frequently in play (88% Zone-Contact), getting lifted (65% Flyball/Line Drive), and struck extremely well (40% Hard Hit, 10% Barrel). Checking boxes one at a time... Enter Sacramento's premiere bat, Brent Rooker... masher of southpaws. The big righty's killed just about everyone this season but lefties should especially be on the lookout for his cartoonish production against LHP — 68 PA; .328 BA, 1.082 OPS, 43% Hard Hit, 41% Flyball, 43% Pull, 12% Barrel, .425 xwOBA, 4 HR. Baseball fan left ‘total mess' after love of sport leads to jackpot lottery win
A baseball fan was left a 'total mess' after realizing she'd won the jackpot in a baseball-themed lottery game in Maryland, officials said. The winner told officials she buys different kinds of lottery tickets for six months every year, then buys only baseball-themed games from April through September, officials said in a May 13 news release. 'I love the (Baltimore) Orioles, so when the season starts it just feels natural to play baseball games,' she said. The Maryland Lottery offers those tickets each spring. 'Whether it's a scratch-off or FAST PLAY, I always choose the baseball game and I always seem to win — but not like this,' she said. The financial consultant found out she'd won $84,503 on a $5 Home Run Riches Walk-off Winnings ticket while she was in a car outside a market, officials said. 'It didn't seem real,' she said. 'I just stared at the ticket. Total shock.' She confirmed the win with the lottery app and rushed home to show her family, officials said. 'I was a wreck, a total mess. I couldn't put the words together to tell them what was happening, so I just showed them the ticket,' she said. 'This whole thing is just so exciting.' And although she never expected a jackpot win, the woman told officials she watches every Orioles game 'hoping to see her name when the Contestant of the Game is mentioned.'
