PORTLAND, Ore. () — A fentanyl trafficker was sentenced to more than seven years in prison in a federal court following the overdose death of a Washington County man, authorities said. Efrain Roberto Diaz-Rangel, 35, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl on March 4. The U.S. Department of Justice described Diaz-Rangal as 'a Mexican national unlawfully residing in Portland.' In April of 2023, a local narcotics team began investigating a in Washington County. Officials said that investigators identified multiple people in a distribution chain that were selling counterfeit oxycodone pills manufactured with fentanyl, some of which caused the victim's overdose. Court documents reveal grim details as search for father accused of killing daughters continues Diaz-Rangel was arrested by Homeland Security Investigators in June of 2023. At the time of his arrest, Diaz-Rangel had approximately 1,000 counterfeit pills and a small quantity of heroin, according to authorities. An additional 30,000 counterfeit pills, several additional pounds of heroin and more than $10,000 in cash were discovered at Diaz-Rangel's residence, officials said.
