UP Cabinet hands over reins of JPNIC project to Lucknow Development Authority

Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Thursday approved a proposal to dissolve the society constituted for the Jayaprakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) project. The decision also entailed that its reins will be handed over to the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA). The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath . by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The New Honda City Sport Honda Book Now Undo Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, State Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said, "It has been decided to dissolve the previously constituted JPNIC Society and transfer the Centre to the Lucknow Development Authority in its present form. The LDA will now be responsible for the completion, operation and upkeep of the project." According to the decision, a total of Rs 821.74 crore disbursed so far by the state for the JPNIC project will be treated as loan to the LDA, which it will repay over a period of 30 years, Khanna added. Live Events The cabinet also authorised the LDA to formulate procedures and conditions for the completion of the project, and to manage its operations and maintenance through private players. The authority has also been empowered to carry out such actions as dissolution of the society and termination of its memberships. The JPNIC project includes the construction of a state-level auditorium, a convention centre, a modern sports complex , multipurpose sports courts, and a multi-level parking facility for around 750 four-wheelers. The dream project of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav was stalled in 2017 after formation of Yogi Adityanath government in the state. A probe into alleged corruption in the project was also ordered and since then the project has been in a limbo. The Centre was envisioned as a world-class convention, culture, sports, and museum precinct dedicated to Congress leader and later rebel Jayaprakash Narayan. On October 11 last year, Jayaprakash Narayan's birth anniversary, Akhilesh's plan to pay tribute to the socialist leader was thwarted when the government had the centre's entry gates barricaded with tin shades. Akhilesh was forced to garland a photo of Narayan on the road outside and branded the government's action as a "dirty politics" tactic to discredit SP's legacy. In 2023, Akhilesh climbed the locked gates of the centre to garland the statue of Narayan, also known as Loknayak. PTI

Honda City Sport vs Volkswagen Virtus GT Line: Which stylish sedan offers better value

Both sedans borrow a familiar shape but toughen their attitude with blacked-out details Check Offers In a segment that's long thrived on practicality, automakers are now adding a dose of style and sportiness to the humble sedan. The latest to join this trend is Honda with the City Sport Edition, a cosmetic twist on its best-selling nameplate. But parked across the showroom floor is a strong contender from Germany—Volkswagen's Virtus GT Line, a similarly styled sedan that brings darkened design cues and a youthful appeal to the 1.0 TSI package. So how do these two style-forward sedans stack up? Here's a closer look across design, features, performance, and value. Honda City Sport vs Volkswagen Virtus GT Line: Design Both sedans borrow a familiar shape but toughen their attitude with blacked-out details. The Honda City Sport receives darker detailing to its front and rear bumpers, ORVMs, and a new pair of grey-finished alloy wheels. It comes in three exterior shades—Radiant Red, Platinum White, and Lunar Silver—offering a little visual diversity. Also Read : Honda City Sport vs Skoda Slavia Sportline: Which sedan will you pick The Virtus GT Line, on the other hand, leans deeper into the dark theme. It wears gloss-black badging, black ORVMs, darkened 16-inch alloys, and even a blacked-out spoiler. The grille, boot lid garnish, and door handles follow suit, creating a far more aggressive profile. While Honda offers limited tweaks for a limited time, VW's execution feels more thorough and embedded. Honda City Sport vs Volkswagen Virtus GT Line: Interior and features Step inside and both sedans adopt a darker theme to match their exteriors. The City Sport retains its premium layout, with dark upholstery and red accents, alongside conveniences like wireless charging, rear AC vents, ambient lighting, and paddle shifters (with the CVT). The Virtus GT Line offers an all-black cabin with contrast grey stitching, a digital instrument cluster, and VW's excellent 10.1-inch infotainment system. Segment staples like auto climate control, TPMS, and six airbags are present on both, but the City pulls ahead in safety with the inclusion of Level 2 ADAS, making it one of the few cars in the segment to offer active driver aids. Honda City Sport vs Volkswagen Virtus GT Line: Specs Under the hood, the City Sport Edition stays loyal to its tried-and-tested 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, making 118 bhp and 145 Nm, mated to a CVT. It's a smooth, no-surprise package that prioritises daily drivability. The Virtus GT Line, though visually GT-esque, doesn't pack the 1.5 TSI engine. Instead, it uses a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine putting out 114 bhp and 178 Nm, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter. It's the more energetic engine in urban conditions, with improved mid-range punch and a peppier nature. Fuel efficiency numbers are on par, but the Virtus pips the opposition on torque delivery and overall fun-to-drive factor. Honda City Sport vs Skoda Slavia Sportline: Which sedan will you pick

The Honda City Sport Edition retains its proven 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol powerplant while the Slavia Sportline takes the turbo route, offering a 1.0-litre TSI engine Check Offers As the compact sedan segment evolves to meet shifting consumer expectations, automakers are doing more than just dipping their toes in novelty—there's a growing desire for originality. The latest company to join the fray is Honda with a new Sport Edition of the City sedan. Launched at ₹ 14.89 lakh (ex-showroom), this limited-run model adds a touch of aggression and exclusivity to an already familiar nameplate. But the timing also sets it up for a direct clash with the Skoda Slavia Sportline, a more permanent offering in the Czech carmaker's lineup. Let's explore how these two special-edition sedans compare across design, features, and value. Also Read : Honda City Sport Edition launched with sporty upgrades, prices start at ₹ 14.89 lakh Honda City Sport vs Skoda Slavia Sportline: Design In order to deviate from their habitual avatars, both sedans underwent a much darker and bolder stance. In the case of Honda's City Sport Edition, blacked-out detailing on the bumpers, ORVMs and grey-finished alloy wheels create a stronger case for its dashing looks. Which does help is having three exterior paint options to provide the buyers some visual flexibility. The Slavia Sportline, in contrast, opts for a single paint finish—but goes further in execution. It gets a blacked grille, smoked tail lamps, a discreet rear spoiler, and gloss-black wheels. The result? A sharper, more performance-oriented stance that leans into its European roots. Honda City Sport vs Skoda Slavia Sportline: Features Step inside, and both vehicles provide a high-tech, all-black interior atmosphere. Shared amenities include rear vents for climate control, wireless phone connection, paddle shifters, ambient lighting, and a wireless charging pad. From there, however, they go their separate ways. Also Read : Skoda Auto India aims for 2.5% market share in FY2026, outlines growth plan Skoda provides some segment-first features—a powered driver's seat, a bigger infotainment screen, and an all-digital instrument cluster that further consolidates its premium leanings. Honda, however, introduces something more timely for Indian roads: Level 2 ADAS, which puts the City firmly in the lead for safety tech. Interestingly, it was one of the first in its segment to provide such driver-assist systems when it introduced them back in 2022. Honda City Sport vs Skoda Slavia Sportline: Specs Under the bonnet, the two sedans differ in their approach to performance. The Honda City Sport Edition retains its proven 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol powerplant, which makes 118 bhp and 145 Nm, with a 7-step CVT transmission. The driving experience is smooth and predictable, ideal for daily commutes. The Slavia Sportline takes the turbo route, offering a 1.0-litre TSI engine that makes 114 bhp and 178 Nm, coupled with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It's punchier in city conditions and feels a tad more eager to accelerate. Mileage figures are nearly identical, with the Slavia marginally ahead. While the City is longer, the Slavia counters with better ground clearance, a roomier boot, and a longer wheelbase, giving it a slight edge in practicality. Honda City Sport vs Skoda Slavia Sportline: Price Both vehicles are priced within the breathing distance of one another, a ₹ 90,000 apart. There's a strategic distinction, however: Honda's Sport Edition is a limited-time release, creating a sense of urgency for consumers. The Slavia Sportline, which begins at ₹ 13.79 lakh, is a permanent addition to the lineup, however. Check out Upcoming Cars in India 2024, Best SUVs in India.
