SA-registered truck involved in deadly Zimbabwe crash that killed 17
At least 17 people died on Tuesday after a South African-registered haulage truck collided with a commuter omnibus in Zimbabwe. ZimLive reports that the South Africa-registered truck was travelling to Harare while the commuter omnibus was headed for St Mary's in Chitungwiza. Mechanical Fail Lands Driver In Court
A driver who attempted to evade Police in a stolen vehicle will now face court. At about 3.35am, a Police unit observed a stolen Honda Fit travelling at high speed on Fir Street, Waterview. Auckland City West Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Wayne Kitcher, says a short time later the vehicle stopped on Daventry Street and two Police units attempted to block the vehicle in. 'The vehicle has stopped briefly before mounting the curb and taking off at high speed.' He says Police did not pursue the vehicle and instead it was monitored by cameras as it entered the Northwestern Motorway. 'The vehicle has then taken the Southern Motorway, where it exited at Market Road and continued through Greenlane and Onehunga before coming to a stop on Manukau Road, Epsom, where it appeared to suffer a mechanical issue. 'Officers have blocked the vehicle in and taken the driver into custody without incident,' Inspector Kitcher says. 'This is a great example of frontline Police resources working together to respond to any events that occur.' A 39-year-old man will appear in Auckland District Court on 17 July charged with failing to remain, receiving property and possession of methamphetamine.

7 safest family cars to buy USED in South Africa
We take a look at the safest family cars available on the used South African market in 2025. Specifically, June is the month of Vehicle Child Safety, so we're putting emphasis on child occupancy safety. However, for South African parents, child safety remains top of mind no matter what month it is. As such, we're looking at the safest family cars available on the used market, courtesy of their Euro NCAP child occupant rating. And we're dovetailing that with AutoTrader's latest used-car listing data, to give a cross section of the safest family cars from affordable hatchbacks to top-end SUVs. Another winner for child occupant safety is the Opel Corsa, although these are typically a little older on the used market. Image: File Let's start our search for the safest family cars for children by helping those operating off a tight budget. There's a common perception that only the largest and most expensive vehicles provide top-tier safety. However, compact models like the Honda Fit and Opel Corsa actually offer exceptional protection for children. The Opel Corsa, for example, scores an impressive 83%, even though used models are typically three-years old. Meanwhile, the latest Honda Fit performs brilliantly well. It scores 22.4 out of 24 points (87%), involving six- and 10-year-old child dummies. Moreover, with an average used price of R341 667 and mileage of just 9 323 km, the Fit represents the most affordable five-star-rated Euro NCAP vehicle currently available on the used market. With a 92% child occupant safety rating, the Volvo C40 Recharge, as you'd imagine, is as safe as houses. Image: Ray Leathern A relatively new addition to the local market, the Chinese Omoda C5 outperforms its rivals. It boasts a child occupant rating of 87%. In terms of used list pricing, the C5 has an average price of R399 280. Impressive, despite being newer on average (1-year old) and offering lower average mileage. It's a smart choice if you want something bigger than a Fit or Corsa hatchback. The safest family cars in the upper SUV tier are the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Volvo C40 Recharge. Both represent five-star safety and everyday luxury in strikingly different ways. The Land Rover Discovery Sport achieves an impressive child safety score of 89%. With an average used price of R1 038 207, buyers can find low-mileage, nearly new examples for significantly less than a new model. And the Volvo C40 Recharge is the compelling zero-emissions alternative, also with an 89% child occupant safety rating. However, the silent Swede has a higher average used list price of R1 108 467. Ultimately, the safety family cars on the used market in South Africa don't have to come at a premium. Whether you're navigating the daily commute or love weekend escapes with the children, choose a vehicle with top-tier child protection. RANK MODEL CHILD OCCUPANT RATING AVERAGE PRICE AVERAGE MILEAGE & AGE 1. Honda Fit 87% R341 667 9 323 km (1-year old) 2. Opel Corsa 84% R265 011 30 890 km (3-years old) 3. ‘That's Obviously a Villain Car:' Man Spots Honda Fit in Parking Lot. Then He Notices the Back
A customized Honda Fit is leaving people speechless. The vehicle was recorded by Skylar (@theoneskylar) and posted on TikTok. As of this writing, it's accrued over 12.7 million views. Get the best news, reviews, columns, and more delivered straight to your inbox, daily. back Sign up For more information, read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use . 'A Honda Fit bro,' the text overlay in the clip reads. Skylar circles the vehicle to give people the full view. It appears the car has been fashioned to resemble a 1940s Ford Deluxe with swooping back indents rendering it akin to something the Penguin might drive in Batman: The Animated Series . It appears that the owner tacked a body kit onto the vehicle to give it this look. Hapdash Honda Fit Trending Now Man Says He Bought a Nissan Frontier Because of These Standard Features. Should You Consider the Same? 'I Bet You Didn't Know This:' Woman Discovers This Little-Known Perk to Driving A Subaru. Then Her Order Comes in the Mail The kit on the Honda Fit seems to have considerable flaws, however. For instance, there's a large indentation on the section of the Fit where the add-on joins the roof. There are also smaller depressions pockmarked throughout the entirety of the kit. The augmented car has limited rear visibility because the panels completely cover the passenger windows. The Fit's smaller rear windows have been left unobstructed, however. But there are glaring inconsistencies where the panels meet the windows. There's nary a straight line on the Fit. Further, the black paint job seems to have been self-applied. It doesn't match the rest of the vehicle. 'What the [expletive]? That's a [expletive] Honda Fit, bro,' Skylar says as he videos the car. A caption on his post reads: 'Someone find the owner of this car. Craziest welding job and fiberglass molding.' To Kit or Not? Car body kits come with pros and cons. Some, like this crafted carbon fiber kit for the Lamborghini Revuelto, can improve performance. As Motor1 reported, it reduces a car's drag coefficient and overall weight. It can give the vehicle more acceleration and enable it to reach top speeds more quickly. It may even improve gas mileage figures. However, as Torque points out, they can also have downsides. Installing kits that make vehicles less aerodynamic can have the exact opposite effect. Furthermore, if not engineered, manufactured, and installed by a professional, they can result in a final product akin to the Honda Fit shown in Skylar's TikTok. Unfortunate Vehicle Modifications There's no shortage of automotive enthusiasts who enjoy collectively wincing at unfortunate vehicular modifications. For example, Redditors both loved and hated a BMW Mini Cooper whose owner transformed it into an open-engine bay drag roadster. Another Honda owner caught flak for attaching a body kit to their vehicle. The car features a number of curved metallic slabs buckled into the Civic VX's body. Ultimately, this results in a 'ratchback' aesthetic, severely inhibiting rear windshield visibility. Some modifications aren't as dramatic, however. People are generally in favor of the car with a fake gauge cluster on the dash. Many said it reminds them of Top Gun . 'Goooooooose!!" wrote one, referring to a character from the first film. 'Blindspot of Doom' Folks who replied to Skylar's video seemed equally troubled by the existence of such a vehicle. 'Imagine describing this car to a 911 operator,' one user pointed out. Another highlighted how the modifications affected the vehicle's functionality. 'Blindspot of doom and despair,' they remarked. Someone else said that the car is akin to something a broke Batman would drive. 'Bruce Wayne hit a bit of a financial rough patch,' they joked. One commenter attributed the vehicle's design to another fictional character. 'This Despicable Me car.' Whereas one TikTok user didn't believe the car was a modification at all. Initially, they thought Skylar had uploaded footage of a Honda Fit that had been in a bad accident. 'I thought it was crashed at first.' One person thought the car has a particularly villainous vibe, writing simply: 'Evil Honda Fit.' Motor1 has reached out to Skylar via TikTok comment for further information. Daughter searching for answers after father killed on motorcycle in South Linden hit-and-run
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – In 2024, the Ohio State Highway Patrol recorded more than 200 motorcycle crash fatalities; one of them was the fatal crash that killed 61-year-old Giancarol Del Vita. It's been almost a year since his daughters, Claire and Audrey, have been without their dad. Claire Del Vita shared her story as she works to navigate this loss. She graduated college in the months before the crash and today she's still searching for answers and pleading with others to watch out for motorcycles on the road. One dead in East Columbus stabbing 'I didn't know how loved he was until after he died, and I wish he could have known how loved he was,' she said. Giancarlo Del Vita was an Italian immigrant working in Columbus as an architect, and one of the things he loved the most was riding his motorcycle. 'My dad loved his bike,' said Claire 'He had a limited edition V7 racer by Moto Guzzi.' It was a hit and run that took his life on July 18, 2024; Columbus police said the driver of a Honda Fit failed to yield, killing Giancarlo at the intersection of Cleveland and Chittenden avenues in South Linden. Giancarlo was wearing his helmet. Several witnesses called 911 following the crash, with some saying they didn't see the car that hit him on the scene. The police report states the driver got out of her car, then got back in and left. 'Video footage caught her getting out of the car, seeing my dad unconscious and getting back in and driving away,' said Claire. Eventually, police were able to track the driver down. The report said the 64-year-old woman driving the Honda did not have a drivers license or insurance at the time of the crash. As of today, nearly 11 months later, the woman has not been charged. 'I just want to know that my dad is going to get justice,' said Claire. As Claire waits for the legal process to play out, she hopes this can now serve as a reminder for other drivers. 'Always look out for motorcycles,' she said. 'I think that goes without saying they have no protection outside of them, and yes, they choose to ride those bikes. But I mean, like for my dad, that's their therapy. They love that.' LinkUs progress: Construction for some bike, pedestrian paths slated to begin next year Though this crash took the life of just one person, the ripple of Giancarlo's death has changed the lives of all who loved him forever. 'Tell the people you love, you love them,' said Claire. 'I mean, the last time I saw him was three days before the accident. He had come up to Cleveland and I got to hug him one last time and tell him see you soon.' NBC4 reached out to Columbus Police and asked about the status of any charges against the driver of the Honda — they said, 'A recommendation for felony hit-and-run has been made to the prosecutor's office, which will be sent for direct indictment to the grand jury.' The Franklin County Prosecutors' Office said there are no charges yet because the crash is still under investigation by their office. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
