Popular brand to recall nearly 200,000 vehicles over 'trapped' fears
A popular car manufacturer is urging drivers to take their vehicle to back to the dealership to fix an issue that could otherwise result in passengers getting 'trapped' inside the car Thousands of passengers risk being 'trapped' in their car due to a common fault, experts have warned. Some of the world's most popular car brands including Honda, Ford, and Mercedes recently announced the recall of hundreds of thousands of vehicles due to a range of serious safety concerns. All of the recalls have been issued in the United States, collectively affecting more than 850,000 vehicles in total, with a variety of mechanical and electronic issues identified that increase the likelihood of crashes and other hazardous situations — but only if they remain on the road without being repaired. It is always of the utmost importance to address potential safety defects in vehicles promptly to protect not just yourself, but everyone on the road. If you're concerned your car may be impacted, it's best to contact your local dealership. Honda The American Honda Motor Company is recalling around 260,000 vehicles in the States due to concerns that a brake pedal could shift out of position, which would prevent the driver from being able to apply the brakes. If this were to happen, the vehicles would fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards related to lighting and brake systems. The recall affects certain Acura TLX (2021-2025), Acura MDX (2023-2025) and Honda Pilot (2023-2025) models. Honda plans to notify owners by mail around July 28, 2025, with instructions on how to have their vehicles inspected and repaired as needed. Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz has also issued a significant recall, affecting almost 92,000 vehicles. The issue centres on the C-pillar, which may not absorb enough impact in the event of a crash. In the event of an accident, the rear occupant's head could come into contact with the C-pillar, potentially causing catastrophic harm. The recall covers certain 2023-2025 GLC 300, GLC 300 4MATIC, 2024-2025 AMG GLC 43 4MATIC, 2025 GLC 350E 4MATIC and AMG GLC 63 S E vehicles equipped with a panoramic sunroof. Mercedes-Benz has instructed dealers to modify the roof lining of affected vehicles to address the problem. Ford Ford has registered documents with the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicating that over 500,000 of its vehicles are being recalled for various issues. The largest of these recalls involves certain Aviator and Explorer models manufactured between 2020 and 2025, with 304,662 units affected. The main concern is that the second-row seats in these vehicles could move unexpectedly, which may prevent them from properly restraining occupants during a crash. This could significantly increase the risk of injury. Ford dealers will inspect the second-row seat switch and, if necessary, replace the bezel around the switch. Another major issue for Ford involves nearly 200,000 Mustang Mach E vehicles produced between 2021 and 2025. If these vehicles have a low battery charge, the electronic door latches may remain locked after the driver or front passenger exits and shuts the door. This could result in a situation where a person in the back seat is unable to use the inside door release handles to exit the vehicle. The NHTSA warned that this defect could 'possibly trap someone who is unable to use the inside door release handles, such as a child in the back seat'. Ford has therefore advised owners to bring their vehicles to dealerships, where the necessary software updates will be provided free of charge. Notification letters were scheduled to be sent to owners by June 23, 2025, with a follow-up letter planned when the fix becomes available, which is expected by September 29. Although Ford has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to this problem, the company has provided guidance for drivers to recognise warning signs. These include a 'system off to save power' alert or a blank SYNC screen after turning off the vehicle. In these cases, drivers may need to pull the inside release handles more forcefully than usual to exit through the front door. These recalls highlight ongoing safety concerns in the automotive industry and the importance of prompt action by manufacturers to address potential risks to drivers and passengers. All repairs related to these recalls will be carried out free of charge.

Honda recalls 259K vehicles for brake pedal defect
This story was originally published on Automotive Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Automotive Dive newsletter. American Honda Motor Co. has recalled 259,000 vehicles for a condition that may cause the brake pedal to become misaligned, which increases the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall is due to a manufacturing defect with the brake pedal pivot pin and includes the 2023-2025 Honda Pilot and Acura MDX; and 2021-2025 Acura TLX sedan. Dealers will inspect and replace the brake pedal assembly on the vehicles as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 28. According to the NHTSA, a Tier 1 supplier's manufacturing error resulted in some brake pedal pivot pins not being staked before assembly. The error can cause the pedal to move laterally, leading to unintended application by a driver and increase the risk of a crash. Honda's Tier 1 supplier, Otsuka Koki Co., was in the midst of a production transition from the U.S. to a Mexico facility between June 14 and Oct. 25, 2024. The planned move required the company to increase its staffing levels to mitigate any supply disruptions. However, some of these new employees were insufficiently trained and the pivot pin staking process was not performed, according to the report. These defective parts were then supplied to Honda and installed in the recalled vehicles. All of the improper brake pedal pivot pin staking occurred at the supplier's U.S. plant, which has since closed. Production was fully transferred to Mexico in early November 2024. In addition to the manufacturing error, a malfunction with the supplier's QR code scanning system that's designed to prevent process omissions was disabled, which allowed the problem to go undetected. But after it was discovered, Otsuka Koki Co. began to utilize a camera sensor to verify that the pivot pin is staked. Honda was made aware of the problem on April 4, 2024, after it received a report of brake pedal movement on a vehicle. The automaker subsequently launched an investigation to determine the cause. On Dec. 2, 2024, the automaker received a second report of a vehicle experiencing brake pedal movement. After receiving the second report, Honda in February began to inspect the parts inventory produced by its supplier. Through April of this year, Otsuka Koki Co. also investigated and analyzed the issue to determine the number of defective parts it may have supplied to the automaker. On June 5, Honda determined that the problem resulted in noncompliance of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and elected to conduct the recall. As of June 5, Honda is aware of three warranty claims related to brake pedal movement, but is not aware of any injuries. The recall is Honda's 12th since Jan. 1 and its second largest of 2025. In January, the company recalled over 294,000 vehicles to update engine control unit software that may lead to stalling or a sudden loss of power. Honda Recalls 184K Pilot SUVs for Potentially Loose Brake Pedals
Honda is recalling 184,253 Pilots (2023–2025 models) due to an issue where the brake pedal can come loose. The recall also affects two Acura models, the 2021–2025 TLX sedan (7332 models) and the 2023–2025 MDX SUV (67,448 models). Owners will be notified by mail and directed to take their vehicle to an Acura or Honda dealer to replace the brake-pedal assembly, if necessary. The Honda Pilot is involved in a sizable recall that affects 2023 to 2025 models. The issue stems from a brake-pedal pivot pin that wasn't properly staked during the production process. This could cause the brake pedal to become loose and possibly make slowing or stopping more difficult. Honda filed a recall report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) earlier this month on June 12. The report states that 184,253 Pilots are affected by the recall, which also extends to two Acura models, specifically 7332 TLX sedans (2021 to 2025 models) and 67,448 MDX SUVs (2023 to 2025 models). Honda says drivers may notice there's an issue if the brake malfunction warning light appears, if the brake pedal doesn't feel normal, or if the taillights are illuminated when the brake isn't being applied. Acura Honda detailed the cause of the issue in its report to NHTSA, explaining that the unstaked pivot pin occurred ahead of moving production from its factory in the United States to one in Mexico. The U.S. site received increased staff to build more parts to help prevent disrupting the supply chain, but Honda says they weren't properly trained, which led to the staking process being missed. Plus, a system that was designed to catch the mistake malfunctioned, so the issue went unnoticed. Owners of vehicles involved in the recall will be notified by mail; Honda plans to notify all registered owners by July 28, 2025. They will be instructed to take their Pilot, MDX, or TLX to a Honda or Acura dealer where the brake-pedal assembly will be inspected and replaced, if necessary.
