Last Updated: India began their Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team Championships with a 110-69 win over Sri Lanka in Group D. India started their Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team Championships campaign emphatically with a 110-69 victory over Sri Lanka in their Group D opener in Solo, Indonesia, on Friday. The mixed doubles team of Vishnu Kode and Reshika U began India's dominance with an 11-5 win over Keneth Aruggoda and Isuri Attanayake in the relay point system, where a team must accumulate 110 points to win the match. Sisters Gayatri and Mansa Rawat then extended India's lead to 22-14 against Attanayake and Sithumi De Silva. Junior world number one Tanvi Sharma showcased her prowess against Sithuli Ranasinghe, pushing India's score to 33-21. No Indian singles player or pair lost any 11-point relay, and by the halfway mark, India had secured a 55-31 lead. What's Next? India will next face the United Arab Emirates on Saturday, followed by a match against Hong Kong China on Sunday, which could determine the top position in the group standings. In 2011, India achieved their best result in the mixed team event by securing a bronze medal. Last year, they narrowly missed out on a medal, losing 2-3 to Malaysia in the quarter-finals. The tournament features 17 teams divided into four groups – three groups with three teams each and one group with five teams. Each team plays against every other team in their group once, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarter-finals. This year's championships adopted a 110-point relay system. Each tie consists of 10 matches: two each in men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles. The team that reaches 110 points first is declared the winner. top videos View all There is no playoff for third place; both losing semi-finalists receive bronze medals. East Asian Football Championships: is Chan recall sign China are running scared of Hong Kong?
Hong Kong football bosses have moved to defuse a controversy that had threatened to blow up ahead of the city team's clash with China on Tuesday. With Ashley Westwood's side seeking a first win over their neighbours since 1985, rumours had surfaced that several players contracted to mainland clubs could be recalled after the team's loss to South Korea on Friday. While clubs are not obligated to release players for the East Asian Football Championship because it falls outside a Fifa window, suspicions were heightened when China manager Dejan Djurdjevic refused to confirm if any of his players were being sent back. Faced with the potential for some uncomfortable questions, the Football Association of Hong Kong China (HKFA) released a statement on Sunday that said only Shinichi Chan had left the camp in a 'pre-arranged agreement between the coaching team … and the player's club'. Chan, who plays for Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua, is one of Hong Kong's best players. Dejan Djurdjevic issues final instructions before China's loss to South Korea last Monday.
