Prez asks students to become job creators at Ravenshaw convocation
Cuttack: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday encouraged graduating students to become "job providers, not job seekers" while addressing the 13th convocation of Ravenshaw University here. Murmu highlighted the institution's legacy as a "living history" that has produced numerous global intellectuals and legends. She shared a personal connection, noting that her daughter had studied at the university for two years. The President particularly commended the academic excellence of female students, who topped in 21 out of 27 departments. "This is not only a sign of women empowerment but of women-led development," she said. President praised the university's inclusive initiatives, including its Braille library for visually-impaired students, and urged youth to embrace innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship for nation-building. During the ceremony, the university conferred (Honoris Causa) degrees on three distinguished persons — seven-time Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, environmentalist Sabarmatee and social activist Bijay Kumar Rath. President Murmu also inaugurated the redevelopment project of the 150-year-old Ravenshaw Girls' High School at Odia Bazar, encouraging students to "dream big, work hard, and be good human beings". Later in the evening at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, she presented the Kalinga Ratna Award 2024 to Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan during the birth anniversary celebration of 15th century Odia poet Adikabi Sarala Das. Pradhan emphasised the importance of promoting Odia language globally and its integration with artificial intelligence to preserve cultural identity in the digital age.

‘No shortcut to success,' says Dr Kaizer Motaung after Wits honour
Kaizer Motaung has always been a man of few words but big on action. But when Wits University honoured the Kaizer Chiefs boss with an honorary Doctor of Commerce accolade at the institution's Great Hall on Tuesday, he spoke like someone who did not want to stop talking, regaling the media and audience with how he started the Chiefs brand 55 years ago. This was a second honorary doctorate to Motaung, 80, after the University of Cape Town bestowed the title Doctor of Social Science Honoris Causa on him in July 2022 for his contribution to football and social development in the country. In November 2023 the South African Hall of Fame inducted Motaung 'for his enduring commitment and positive influence on countless lives through sports and community engagement'. Speaking to the media with Wits vice-chancellor professor Zeblon Vilakazi, Motaung beamed with happiness at the latest honour at the institution he always regarded as one of the best in the country.

Karunya inst confers honorary doctorate on CM Lalduhoma
1 2 Aizawl: Mizoram chief minister Lalduhoma was conferred the Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) by the Karunya Institute of Technology & Sciences (deemed to be university), Coimbatore, during its 31st convocation held on Saturday at the Dr DGS Dhinakaran Centre. The CM graced the ceremony as the chief guest. In his convocation address, Lalduhoma expressed his deep gratitude to chancellor Paul Dhinakaran and the university leadership for the honour. "This honour is not only personally humbling, but profoundly meaningful. I accept it on behalf of the people of Mizoram, a fully literate state, and as a tribute to the spirit of progress that education brings to every corner of our nation," he said.

Quantum Valley will place AP at forefront of advanced tech: Guv
Kakinada: Governor and Chancellor of JNTU-Kakinada S Abdul Nazeer presided over the XI Convocation of the University here on Friday. Delivering the convocation address, the Governor said Andhra Pradesh is set to establish India's first full-stack Quantum Valley under the National Quantum Mission, integrating quantum computing, AI, and sustainable technologies by 2026, which will foster high-end employment and frontier technological capability and place Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of quantum and deep-technology advancement in Asia. The Governor commended the university for its consistent efforts in revising the curriculum every three years and conducting convocations regularly, ensuring a timely conferral of degrees and congratulated the students who received their degrees, gold medals and merit certificates in the Convocation. Earlier, Prof C S R K Prasad, vice-chancellor of JNTU-Kakinada, presented the university's annual report. Kota Subrahmanyam, an alumnus of the university was the chief guest-cum-orator and delivered the convocation lecture. He was conferred the Honoris Causa by the university. Sameera Nazeer, First Lady, Dr M Hari Jawaharlal, ex-officio secretary to Governor and other dignitaries attended the convocation. Later, Prof C S R K Prasad felicitated the Governor and other guests with shawl and memento on behalf of the university.

Andhra Pradesh Governor, Nara Lokesh highlight growth vision at Krishna University convocation
MACHILIPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh Governor and Krishna University Chancellor S Abdul Nazeer presided over the combined sixth, seventh and eighth convocation at its campus auditorium on Wednesday. HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh attended as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, Nazeer emphasised the importance of the Swarnandhra @ 2047, stating that the roadmap aligns closely with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047, aiming to position Andhra Pradesh among the top three States in the country. The convocation began with the presentation of the annual report by Vice-Chancellor Prof. K Ramji. Mandava Prabhakar Rao, chairman and managing director of Nuziveedu Seeds, delivered the convocation oration and was conferred the Honoris Causa for the sixth convocation. Two other eminent personalities, Prof. MNV Ravi Kumar, distinguished university research professor at the University of Alabama, USA, and Anil Kumar Chalamalasetty, founder and CEO of Greenko Group, were conferred the Honoris Causa for the seventh and eighth convocations, respectively.
