Ticketless Oasis fans scale new security fences to catch a glimpse of latest Heaton Park gig

Ticketless Oasis fans scaled new security fences and climbed trees to catch a glimpse of their latest Heaton Park gig on Wednesday night (16.07.25). Huge steel fences were erected around the Manchester park to stop the eager fans from watching the band's Oasis Live '25 tour after the Britpop legends performed two homecoming shows there on Friday (11.07.25) and Saturday (12.07.25). Although their attempts to enter the venue were unsuccessful, that hasn't stopped crowds gathering on what has been dubbed 'Gallagher Hill' to listen to the Stand By Me group. Some have even gone as far as to setup picnic blankets and fold-up chairs - despite calls from Manchester City Council not to travel to Heaton Park. The Council had said: "With three concerts still to be played by Oasis in Manchester's Heaton Park following their two hugely successful concerts at the weekend, the city council is repeating its request for fans without tickets not to travel to the park. "After taking stock of how the first two nights went, additional measures have now been deemed necessary and will be in place for the next three concerts, to protect the environment of the park, ensure areas of parkland and nearby livestock are protected, and maintain public safety. "These include the erection of steel fencing around a large area of the hill within the cattle field in the main park - which is currently being developed as a new woodland area for the park and has been recently planted with around 300 young whips including Hornbeam, Field Maple, Aspen, Downy birch, Rowan, Common Alder, Crab apple and more - as well as measures to protect the livestock in the field, which include expectant and nursing cows and a bull. "The erection of the fencing has a dual purpose - both to protect the environment from further damage and to dissuade people from gathering there. The necessary measure means the concert will no longer be visible from this area." There are two more dates at Heaton Park on July 19 and 20. The Oasis Live '25 Tour then moves to London's Wembley Stadium on July 25.

Teenager planned 'Rudakubana-style attack' on Oasis fans at opening night of Oasis Live '25 tour

A 17-year-old boy planned to target Oasis fans at the band's first reunion concert in Cardiff on July 4, according to court proceedings. The teenager, whose identity is protected due to his age, reportedly searched online for weapons and 'places to attack.' His parents raised concerns with a counsellor after he allegedly expressed a desire to carry out a 'Rudakubana-style attack.' Axel Rudakubana, also 17 at the time, was sentenced to a minimum of 52 years in prison for the murder of three girls at a dance class in Southport, and the attempted murder of 10 others last July. The teenager in this case, from the Cwmbran area of South Wales, was not charged under the Terrorism Act 2000, according to The Times. However, he faces a charge of possessing information likely to be useful to someone preparing an act of terrorism — mirroring a charge Rudakubana also faced. Authorities discovered that the boy had researched Rudakubana and referenced him on Snapchat, albeit with a misspelling of his name. He also reportedly used the app to mock victims of the Southport attack. A peer later alerted police, claiming the teen discussed producing the poison ricin — another connection to Rudakubana's case — which he denied. Following his remarks to the counsellor, he allegedly shared an al-Qaeda training manual via mobile phone. Judge Justice Cheema-Grubb has called for both a pre-sentence report and a psychiatric evaluation of the youth. Meanwhile, huge steel fences have been erected around an area of Manchester's Heaton Park to stop ticketless Oasis fans from watching the band's Oasis Live '25 tour. The Wonderwall hitmakers performed two homecoming shows at the venue on Friday (11.07.25) and Saturday (12.07.25), but hundreds of fans unsuccessfully tried to storm the fences to gain entry to the Britpop legends' gigs. Now, Manchester City Council have urged ticketless Oasis fans not to travel to Heaton Park, after crowds previously gathered to get a glimpse of the big screens on an area that has been dubbed "Gallagher Hill". The Council said: "With three concerts still to be played by Oasis in Manchester's Heaton Park following their two hugely successful concerts at the weekend, the city council is repeating its request for fans without tickets not to travel to the park. Wonderwall! Steel fences erected at Heaton Park to stop ticketless Oasis fans watching tour

Huge steel fences have been erected around an area of Manchester's Heaton Park to stop ticketless Oasis fans from watching the band's reunion tour. The Wonderwall hitmakers performed two homecoming shows at the venue on Friday (11.07.25) and Saturday (12.07.25) as part of their Oasis Live '25 Tour - which kicked off in Cardiff on July 4th - but hundreds of fans unsuccessfully tried to storm the fences to gain entry to the Britpop legends' gigs. Now, Manchester City Council have urged ticketless Oasis fans not to travel to Heaton Park, after crowds previously gathered to get a glimpse of the big screens on an area that has been dubbed "Gallagher Hill". "The erection of the fencing has a dual purpose - both to protect the environment from further damage and to dissuade people from gathering there. The necessary measure means the concert will no longer be visible from this area." This comes following reports Oasis have been inundated with huge, "endless" offers to headline major music festivals. An insider told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: "If fans thought Oasis were busy, they should see the offers their teams are fielding behind the scenes. "Festivals in the US like Coachella want Oasis to headline next year, as well as big ones in Europe including Benicassim. "Then you have businesses and individuals who want them to perform. The offers are endless." But Oasis - who reunited this year after brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher put their differences to one side - are said to be concentrating on their current Oasis Live '25 Tour for now. Following a further three Manchester shows, Oasis will head to London, Edinburgh, and Dublin. They will then jet off further afield to the US, Canada, and Mexico, where they may "tweak" their Oasis Live '25 setlist. The source said: "Oasis won't be changing the songs for their UK and Ireland legs but there may be some tweaks when they go overseas. "It's still up in the air but Noel and Liam want to make sure they're giving all their fans the songs they want to hear - so there could be some tweaks made here and there."

Date revealed for removal of George Square statues

They will return next year and be back in place for the re-opening of the new look square. The council said: 'Between 12-23 May, the 11 bronze statues in the Square will be removed - for conservation and restoration - before their return to the Square in 2026.' The 11 statues are of famous and renowned people for their achievements across politics, arts, science and military. They are poets, Robert Burns, and Thomas Campbell, engineer, James Watt, chemist, Thomas Graham, politicians, Robert Peel, William Gladstone and James Oswald, military figures, Field Marshall Lord Clyde and John Moore and two horseback statues of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The contract for the construction work has now been signed. The contract, worth £20.499million awarded to Rainton Constructions. It covers not only the George Square works, but also the creation of Avenues at North Hanover Street (between Cathedral Street and George Square); George Street (between Montrose Street and George Square); West George Street (between Nelson Mandela Place and George Square); Cochrane Street and St Vincent Place. 'These works will be done in two phases, with George Square, St Vincent Place and West George Street due for completion in August 2026, and Cochrane Street and the sections of George Street and North Hanover Street to be complete in the Spring of 2027. The new tree species to be planted in George Square and the surrounding Avenues through the project include 'Robin Hill' Pink Juneberry; 'Frans Fontaine' Hornbeam; 'Forest Pansy' Redbud; Oleaster; 'Autumn Gold' Gingko; Burgundy Sweetgum; a couple of Rowan species; a number of Flowering Cherry species; and Pin Oak. Councillor Angus Millar, Convener for City Centre Recovery at Glasgow City Council, said: 'This is a huge milestone in the transformation of George Square. "The appointment of Rainton means the main construction works are now just weeks away, adding real momentum and a sense of excitement to this historic project. "Glaswegians will already have seen the construction site starting to take shape but the appointment of this contractor is the last major piece of the jigsaw. "Over the 16 or so months from June, we will see a new and significantly improved public space take shape – a new square on a par with many of our international peers, one Glaswegians can be proud of, and which is fitting of a city of our standing.'
