Police arrest father and son for murder after body found in Ampang
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested two men, including a 73-year-old, in connection with a murder that occurred in Taman Pandan Perdana, Ampang, last month. Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said the case initially began as a sudden death report after police received a call from a medical assistant at Hospital Kuala Lumpur at 7.16pm on June 22, alerting them to the death of a man at Jalan Perdana 6/5. "Police immediately rushed to the scene and the death was confirmed by a medical assistant. "However, following a post-mortem at the Ampang Hospital forensic unit the next day, elements of foul play were detected. The post-mortem revealed that the cause of death was necrotising soft tissue infections due to skin and skeletal injuries. The victim's body was discovered inside the home of one of the suspects. "The case was subsequently reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement today. Following the discovery, a team from the district's Criminal Investigation Department (D9) arrested two local men believed to be involved in the case between June 26 and 28. The suspects are a 36-year-old self-employed man and his 73-year-old father, who is unemployed. "Police also seized a bamboo cane and an adjustable plier believed to be linked to the case," Azam said. He added that both suspects tested negative for drugs and have no prior criminal records. The first suspect has been remanded for 14 days starting June 27 until July 10, while the second suspect was remanded for 13 days from June 29 to July 11. Azam said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or up to 40 years' imprisonment and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction. "The motive is believed to be debt-related," he added.

M'sia sets medical milestone with conjoined twin separation in 13-hour surgery
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian surgeons have achieved another milestone in paediatric medicine by successfully separating three-month-old conjoined twins at Hospital Tunku Azizah (HTA), a government hospital in Kuala Lumpur that specialises in paediatrics and obstetrics & gynaecology. According to a statement posted on HTA's official Facebook page, the male twins were born with a rare condition known as Omphalo-Ischiopagus Tetrapus Conjoined Twin, in which the babies were joined at the abdomen and pelvis, sharing four legs. The complex and delicate procedure was led by four senior doctors—Dr Mohd Yusof Abdullah, Datuk Dr Zakaria Zahari, Dr Intan Zarina Fakir Mohamed, and Dr Phang Yee Yun. They were supported by a dedicated team of experienced paediatric surgeons from HTA and Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL). The 13-hour surgery began at 8:30am on June 24, with the successful separation completed at 5:43pm. The full operation concluded at 9:48pm. 'Alhamdulillah, the surgery went smoothly and both babies are now stable and receiving treatment in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU),' the hospital reported. This remarkable operation marks the fourth successful separation of conjoined twins at HTA since 2019, and the 19th such case in the combined history of HTA-HKL surgical collaborations.

Abandoned In HKL: Madam Soh's Silent Cry For Family
Subscribe to our FREE Time moves differently in hospitals. Between the mechanical beeps and fluorescent lights, social activist Kuan Chee Heng walks these corridors where thousands of stories intersect daily. Today, he shares one that strikes at the heart of Malaysia's changing social fabric – a story that begins with a name, Soh Swee Yong, and unfolds into a mirror of our society's evolving values. 'If she were a Puan Sri or Datin Seri, many would come visit her,' Kuan observes, his words cutting through the pretence of modern prosperity. But Madam Soh is just herself – an 80-year-old woman from Setapak Jaya, now lying alone in her Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) bed. The Price of Progress: Our Elders Left Behind When Kuan met her, the story she shared was heartbreakingly simple. Yes, she has siblings. Yes, she has family. But since her admission to HKL, not a single visitor has darkened her doorway. Her words, as reported by Kuan, carry the heavy burden of abandonment – downcast, disappointed, deeply sad. Now, as Malaysia races toward development, another elderly citizen slips through the cracks. Madam Soh's next destination: an Indian non-governmental organisation (NGO)-run home in Batu Caves. 'Most probably she will end her journey of life there,' Kuan notes with characteristic directness. For family members who might still harbour a flicker of conscience, Kuan shares her future address: Pusat Jagaan Orang Tua Cahaya Maju No. 2, Jalan Melati 1, Taman Sri Melati, 68100 Batu Caves, Selangor (Contact: Saravanan, 018 2623023). His parting shot lands with prophetic weight: 'As our country progresses into an old, aged country, we will see more of this kind of case. BE PREPARED.'
