Maharashtra Politics: Fresh Rift Expected In Mahayuti? CM Fadnavis Orders Probe Into Tender Process Involving Shiv Sena Minister's Son
MUMBAI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday announced a high-level enquiry into the tender process for the sale of Hotel VITS at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar which involved the company of state's Social Justice Minister and Shiv Sena leader, Sanjay Shirsat's son Siddhant. He made this announcement during a discussion on a Calling Attention Motion moved by Leader of the Opposition Ambadas Danve on the now cancelled tender process for the sale of the said hotel. Danve said, "A company formed in 2024 was allowed to participate in the bid. The hotel bid was fixed at the 2018 rate, which was severely undervalued. The cartelisation of the companies led to acceptance of a tender of a company which did not have three years of ITR as required. Will there be action against the officials and the company which had won the tender?" Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule informed that the said tender process has now been cancelled. "We had previously issued six tenders since 2018, for which no company came forward. The hotel's value was fixed based on the special MPID court," he said. The VITS hotel was the property of Dhanada Corporation Limited, listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange. In 2016 and 2017, the properties of the company were seized including the said hotel. In a bid to return the money of shareholders, its auction was held. However, according to the minister, no company came forward for six tender processes held since 2018. Danve said that M/s Siddhant Material Procurement and Supply company won the tender at a small price of Rs 65 crore at a time when the current valuation of the hotel is around Rs 150 crore. He mentioned that the owner of the company that bid for the hotel is Siddhant Shirsat, the son of a minister and the minister's election affidavit for year 2024 shows no property belonging to his son. He was joined by Opposition MLCs Anil Parab, Bhai Jagtap and Shashikant Shinde seeking action from the government on officials as well as the company owner. As Bawankule maintained that the tender process had been cancelled and the new process would take all the precautions, the Opposition pressed for action and resignation of Minister Shirsat. Amid sloganeering, Minister Shirsat presented his side. "The entire process has run through court orders. Every tender has been issued after a court order and not by officials. Nobody came forward when the tender was issued six times," said Shirsat, adding that all the allegations were false and baseless. As the sloganeering continued, Chief Minister Fadnavis said that the Revenue Minister has clarified that the process has been cancelled. "It is important such cases should have transparency. Therefore, a high level enquiry will be conducted to probe as to whether any irregularity has taken place in the entire process," he added.

Fadnavis orders probe into tender process for hotel sale involving Shiv Sena minister Sanjay Shirsat's son
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday announced a high-level inquiry into the tender process for the sale of Hotel VITS in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar which involved a company owned by Social Justice Minister and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shirsat's son Siddhant Shirsat. Ambadas Danve, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, raised a calling attention motion on the now-cancelled tender process. 'A company formed in 2024 was allowed to participate in the bid. The hotel bid was fixed at a 2018 rate which was severely undervalued. The cartelisation of the companies led to the acceptance of a tender of a company that did not have three years of income tax returns as required. Will there be action against the officials and the company that won the tender?' Danve said. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said, 'We had previously issued six tenders since 2018, but no company came forward. The hotel's value was fixed based on the special MPID (Maharashtra Protection of Investors and Depositors) court.' The VITS hotel was a property of Dhanada Corporation Limited, listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange. In 2016 and 2017, the properties of the company were seized. In a bid to return the money of shareholders, the hotel was put up for auction, but according to the minister, no company responded to the six tenders floated since 2018. Danve said that M/s Siddhant Material Procurement and Supply won the tender at merely Rs 65 crore and that the current valuation of the hotel was around Rs 150 crore. He mentioned that the company's owner, Siddhant Shirsat, is a minister's son but the minister's 2024 election affidavit showed no property owned by his son. Danve was joined by Opposition MLCs Anil Parab, Bhai Jagtap, and Shashikant Shinde in seeking action against officials as well as the company's owner. As Bawankule said the tender process was cancelled and that the new process would take all precautions, the Opposition pressed for the resignation of minister Shirsat. Shirsat presented his side amid sloganeering in the House. 'The entire process has run through court orders. Every tender has been issued after court orders and not by officials. Nobody came forward six times when the tender was issued,' the minister said, adding that all the allegations were false and baseless. As the sloganeering continued, Fadnavis said the revenue minister clarified that the process had been cancelled. 'It is important that such cases should have transparency. Therefore, a high-level inquiry will be conducted to probe whether any irregularity has taken place in the entire process,' he said.

Ambadas Danve writes to Fadnavis, seeks scrapping of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar hotel auction, demands high-level probe
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The opposition continues to challenge social justice minister Sanjay Shirsat, despite his announcement that his son, Sidhant, would withdraw from purchasing a prominent hotel in the city. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Shirsat, who serves as the district guardian minister, is facing mounting pressure. Stakeholders have publicly stated that the hotel's current value exceeds Rs 175 crore. Reports indicate that during the auction, the minister's son secured the property with the highest bid of approximately Rs 67 crore. Ambadas Danve, the leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra legislative council, has written to chief minister , requesting the immediate nullification of the VITS Hotel property auction in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He also sought a thorough investigation, citing procedural irregularities and property undervaluation. In his Monday correspondence to the chief minister, Danve said the revenue administration auctioned Dhanada Corporation Ltd's flagship asset — Hotel VITS — at a significantly reduced value, affecting govt revenue and numerous stakeholders. He noted the Railway Station Road property, valued at ₹110 crore in 2012, received bids below the govt's 2021 reserve price in the 2025 auction. Danve said the May 20 e-auction, through the eAuction India portal, attracted only three companies. He questioned the limited participation and similar bid amounts, suggesting predetermined outcomes favouring specific interests. "The auction was conducted with clear intent to favour one bidder, under pressure from a specific group of shareholders and possible financial interests of certain officers," he alleged. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The letter emphasised that Dhanada Corporation, listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange, has over 5,000 shareholders. Hotel VITS, operating since 2008, provided substantial local employment and business opportunities. The property ceased operations on Feb 1, 2025, without judicial orders, despite ongoing business activities and Rs 6 crore annual profit submissions to the court. Danve referenced the Supreme Court's verbal observation regarding MPID Act's inapplicability to share transactions. He claimed the state administration proceeded with the auction regardless, without proper judicial guidance. "The abrupt closure has left nearly 150 direct employees of this hotel, related small businesses, and suppliers in financial distress," Danve wrote. He requested a halt to property transfer, the establishment of an investigative committee, and disciplinary measures against involved officials. The letter concluded with a request for a detailed report on actions taken.
