Telco woes in Ulu Kimanis village
Published on: Friday, June 27, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jun 27, 2025 By: Sidney Skinner Text Size: Subscribers in this Ulu Kimanis village were unable to use their service almost two weeks recently. A Papar handphone user has expressed her displeasure about poor coverage in one part of the district, while a Penampang employee is hoping that more care will be taken to look after the telecommunications installations near her office. The former shared her frustrations about the service outage at her village in the Ulu Kimanis area. The office-worker, on the other hand, was perturbed by a phone pole which was leaning over at a 45 degree angle off a section of Jalan Penampang. Both individuals provided Hotline with the pertinent details regarding their grievances. This information was forwarded to CelcomDigi and Telekom Malaysia (TM) Bhd. A CelcomDigi spokesperson said a preliminary check was made of the installation in the vicinity of the subscriber's village shortly after the company was contacted by the media. 'Our technical team was immediately deployed to assess the network signal in the customer's area,' the spokesperson said. 'The issue was resolved on the spot and the signal coverage was subsequently restored.' She said its personnel later confirmed that subscriber's handphone service was functioning as it should. 'Nevertheless, we will continue to monitor the network quality in the area to ensure consistent coverage.' GANESH of Papar said he was unable to use his handphone to make calls or access the Internet in Kg Toboon Minansar for days at a time. He said this had been going on for 'the past fortnight'. 'I can receive messages via whatsapp. However, I have noticed that there is a substantial delay between when they are first sent to me and when they appear on my phone,' he said. 'A friend who lives in Penampang sent me a request around 8.10pm on a recent Friday night. Her message only registered in my whatsapp about 45 minutes later.' He said his telecommunications services only functioned like normal when he reached the nearest main road. 'I have to make a two to three-minute drive from my house just to be able to use my handphone, which I feel is a ridiculous inconvenience.' Ganesh said he shared his handphone woes with several of his neighbours. Those among them, who also used CelcomDigi, expressed similar frustrations about the poor coverage, according to him. 'It is especially disappointing that the company's lines should malfunction like this. I fear that I will not be able to call for help if there is an emergency at home.' Meanwhile, TM staff have been asked to make periodic checks of the condition of its assets in Penampang, including those on the vegre along the main road leading to Donggongon. The firm recently dealt with a problem involving a pole which was bending towards the compound for a commercial premises dealing in hardware, plumbing and heating equipment at Mile 6 Jalan Penampang. A TM spokesman said the relevant section was alerted to what was happening in this part of the district. 'Our technicians confirmed that the pole was no longer upright a few days later,' he said. 'They set about repositioning the structure on the spot. A stay-wire was put in place to provide the pole with additional support.' He said the team also attended to any low-hanging cables in the area. 'We wanted to ensure that these lines did not droop down over the road shoulder or parking area for the commercial building in question.' EVAN, who works at the Penampang company, said his employers were worried about the potential property damage which they could incur if the pole were to fall. 'Several of our customers have already remarked that the pole seems to be edging closer and closer towards our compound,' he said. 'When the pole topples, there will be less space for the staff and shoppers to park their vehicles, let alone for us to store our bigger items.' * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Celtic fans fear transfer 'biscuit tin mentality' is now fact as Hotline dissects four deals for Brendan Rodgers
The punters used the phones to offer tips to the Celtic boss with the Champions League qualifiers rapidly approaching Brendan Rodgers has been handed some transfer advice on today's offering of the Hotline. The Celtic manager is looking to boost his squad for the new campaign and callers haven't been slow in giving opinions. Rodgers has money at his disposal to cast the net wide, but Stephen Mulhearn, Dumbarton, reckons the Parkhead boss should be looking just along the M8 for a new defender to join Kieran Tierney in signing. He said: 'With talks ongoing with David Gray to renew his contract at Easter Road, Rocky Bushiri would be a excellent acquisition to Celtic's backline. I'm surprised Brendan Rodgers hasn't looked at this option. "A no-nonsense centre-back is needed to play alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers and he still can't make his mind up between Liam Scales and Auston Trusty.' Motherwell's star turn has been linked with a move to the champions, but Paddy Gowens said: 'I don't know what all the hype is about Lennon Miller. He's an average player who doesn't look like class, I wouldn't sign him. He's done nothing and hasn't played at top level.' Colin Reid, Patrick, said: 'I'm getting a little bit impatient here. We're almost into July, there's Champions League qualifiers this season and I'm seeing a hive of activity at the front door of Celtic Park. I just hope they are waiting for good ones because this is concerning to me at this stage of the summer.' As well as signings, there's also the possibility of big-name departures from Celtic Park and that took us nicely to a couple of responses to recent calls. Alan Flett said 'The possibility of Leipzig offering £15 million for Nicolas Kuhn has nothing to do with the biscuit-tin mentality, I was just stating a fact. "Kevin O'Reily says that Celtic have a tin full of chunky kit kats, but he obviously doesn't realise they're only half the size that they used to be. You get better value for money with rich teas. That's why we've got Nicolas Raskin/Cyriel Dessers and you've got Arne Engels/Adam Idah.' On a differing topic away from the transfer market, Glen Mitchell replied to a message from Donald Dundas as he said: 'You just cannot accept facts. "What about the fact that Celtic did not even start until many years after Rangers, so much less time to win things. Now your club is playing at Ibrox, there has not been anything except your club trying to catch Celtic, with absolute total failure. What is it now, something like 27 trophies to three.' The Celtic manager's work was given short shrift by Alan Milligan, who said: 'I've got to laugh when Rodgers is described as an elite manager. He has had an easy run in Scotland but has failed big time in Europe and was sacked twice in England. Since when did the Scottish Premiership become an elite league to win?' Across Glasgow, Peter Cooperwhite wasn't happy at news emerging regarding new signing Lyall Cameron as he said: 'Here we go again. "Another injured player, Cameron, and he hasn't pulled a jersey on in earnest. It beggars belief how we get injured players season after season. Where did he pick up an injury? The season finished a month ago.' Meanwhile, Joe Hailey, Baillieston, isn't very happy at the fixture list and the scheduling of the opening matches in the Premiership. He said: 'It's an absolute disgrace that only one of our top-flight opening games will kick off at 3pm on the Saturday. As usual, fans are being shamefully abused after they pay their season-ticket money up front. "It's a sick sport that treats its supporters in this way. Really just sums up Scottish football. Small-minded clubs with no real investment and poor facilities. We're nearly on a par with League of Ireland now.'

The next phase
American rock band Hotline TNT drop their third studio album Raspberry Moon tomorrow, June 20. The 11-track project is expected to deliver a tone of gratitude, featuring open-hearted love songs to oneself, other people and situations, and celebrate being at peace both, within and with one's surroundings. The theme is also reflected in the way the body of work came together, as it is the first to be fully written and recorded by all the band members. Since its establishment in 2018, frontman Will Anderson has been writing and recording all of the ensemble's music. However, he revealed, in an interview, that the creating process for the new music has also included his bandmates: guitarist Lucky Hunter, bassist Haylen Trammel and drummer Mike Ralston. Will also stated that he never intended for Hotline TNT to be a 'one-man band operation', and that he believes it was an unfortunate matter of circumstance to have done so with the previous two records. Released last month, the third single off the album titled Break Right is the first to be written and produced collaboratively with the rest of the group. 'Some songs hide their meanings behind a facade of metaphors, PR quotes and half-measures. Break Right hides nothing,' Will said. 'This is the sound of TNT becoming a band. Every effect has been unplugged, every sample has been deprogrammed and every emotion has been laid bare. You've never heard a Hotline song quite like this before,' he added.

June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month. I spoke to people who have seen boys and men silently struggle. When people think of depression, they typically think of sadness, specific language, or isolation, but in boys and men, it could look different. 'They may be more irritated. They may show a lot of aggression, a lot of anger, and so forth,' said Dominique Bond, School Counselor. 'So, these are some things that we can look for as well to really that can be some warning signs.' Marci Tankersley lost her brother to suicide. She tells me she never saw signs of him struggling with his mental health. 'The suicide rate in men is way higher than women, and I think that's why because they were never taught to express their emotions,' said Marci Tankersley, Mental Health Advocate. 'So that's the way my brother was raised. That's the way I mean so many men were raised, and my brother committed suicide when he was 21 years old. So, I don't remember him talking about anything. I didn't think he was depressed. But I do know now that he was, and he was silently struggling.' Mental health experts say the stigma that men can't show emotion makes it hard for them to express their feelings. 'Men need to really challenge their understanding of masculinity, and one of our understands of masculinity, which is very outdated, is that we are strong. We got it ourselves; we just got to tough it out, but in reality, we just have to address it,' said Bond. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention aims to raise awareness through its 'Out of the Darkness' Walk in October. If you are struggling with mental health, you can also call the Suicide Hotline at 9-8-8. 'That tragedy and loss affects so many people down the line, The parents, the siblings. I just it can be, we can turn this thing around,' said Tankersley. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
