A teen accused of stealing a car and causing a deadly four-way crash in Howard County last week is facing charges, according to Howard County Police. On Friday, May 9. a stolen 2017 Hyundai was driving east on Guilford Avenue in Jessup when it crossed the double yellow lines on Guilford Road in Jessup. Video obtained by WJZ shows the Hyundai attempting to speed past a 2021 Tesla Model Y preparing to make a left turn onto Twelve Sons Court. The Hyundai sideswiped the Tesla, and a 2010 Honda Fit before crashing head-on with a 2021 Honda Civic. After the accident, four teens hopped out of the Hyundai and fled the scene. One of the juveniles, who was injured in the collision and taken to a hospital, is now charged with auto manslaughter and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle. He has been released from the hospital and is now in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Services. Family and friends cope with devastating loss 69-year-old Bonnie Fuller Griffith of Columbia was taken to the hospital after the crash but was pronounced dead. As friends and family of Griffith mourn her loss, police continue to search for the three teens who fled the scene. Griffith was originally from Miami but was living in Columbia. She is remembered as a dedicated dance mom and arts patron, with an "infectious smile, a giving spirit, and a zeal for life."

A woman was killed after juveniles driving a stolen vehicle caused a four-vehicle crash in Jessup Friday afternoon. According to the Howard County Police Department, at 3:06 p.m., a stolen 2017 Hyundai Sonata was driving east on Guilford Ave when it crossed the double yellow lines to speed past a 2021 Tesla Model Y preparing to make a left turn onto Twelve Sons Court. The Sonata sideswiped the Tesla and a 2010 Honda Fit before crashing head-on with a 2021 Honda Civic. Four juveniles then hopped out of the Sonata and fled the scene. However, one of the juveniles was injured in the collision and taken to a hospital. According to police, his most recent condition as of Saturday was listed as serious but stable. The driver of the Honda Civic, 69-year-old Bonnie Fuller Griffith of Columbia, was also transported to a hospital after the crash but was pronounced dead by medical staff. Police say no one else was injured in the crash. An investigation is underway as the three other juveniles are outstanding, police said. Charges have not yet been filed. Juvenile crime in Howard County This comes as juvenile crime has been a cause for concern for Howard County residents. On February 22, a shooting conducted by an 18-year-old near the Mall in Columbia killed 16-year-old Michael Robertson and left a 15-year-old injured. Just months prior, another teen, 17-year-old Angelo Little, was shot and killed inside the same mall near the food court. According to data from the Howard County Police, homicides have been going up. In 2023, there were five homicides in the county, and in 2024, there were nine.

() — A woman died and one teen was hospitalized after a stolen car crashed into three other vehicles in Jessup on Friday afternoon, according to the Howard County Police Departmnet. Police said, minutes after 3 p.m. on May 9, a 2017 Hyundai Sonata was traveling east on Guilford Road when it crossed a double yellow line while trying to pass a Tesla. Four hospitalized after multi-car crash in Montgomery County As a result, the Hyundai sideswiped the Tesla, which was trying to make a left turn onto Twelve Sons Court. After swiping the Tesla, police said the Hyundai sideswiped a Honda Fit before colliding head-on with a Honda Civic. Following the crash, four teen boys got out of the Hyundai, with three of them running from the scene. Police say the other teen in the car sustained serious injuries and was transported to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for treatment. Police say the car was marked as stolen, and the other three boys are currently being sought. According to police, the woman driving the Honda Civic was transported to Howard County General Hospital, where she later died. No one else was hurt in the crash.
