Iconic '80s Rocker Going Viral With 'God Only Knows' in Memory of Brian Wilson
Iconic '80s Rocker Going Viral With 'God Only Knows' in Memory of Brian Wilson originally appeared on Parade. A legendary British rocker is going viral with his new, stripped-down recording of God Only Knows as a tribute to the late, great . Howard Jones, 70, the British singer/songwriter with a very distinct voice, was, like many, many other artists, quick to express their admiration, love and grief over Wilson's passing on June 12. "I loved the music of Brian Wilson and was so happy to meet him backstage at a gig in Brooklyn. I was able to say to him what a profound influence he was on my musical life. Thank you, Brian, you will always be in my heart," wrote Jones on Facebook. He then posted a video of himself at the piano playing a gorgeous, stripped-down version of "God Only Knows" in memory of Wilson, captioning the video, "Perhaps the best pop song ever written." In the comments on the Facebook video, one fan wrote, "Howard Jones, your cover of 'God Only Knows' is a beautiful tribute to Brian Wilson."Another fan wrote, "A really exquisite tribute. He'd love it, and clearly you're really connected to the emotion of this song." "Just 20 seconds in and feeling the vibe, and that moment the hair stands up on the back of your neck… pure class….👏👏👏," wrote a third fan. Jones is the voice behind such hits as "New Song," "What is Love?", Pearl in the Shell," "Like to Get to Know You Well," and "Things Can Only Get Better," but perhaps his greatest hit was the 1986 single "No One is to Blame," which peaked at No. 4 in the U.S. — personally, we find it to be his most beautiful song lyrically and melodically. Wilson was a founding member of the Beach Boys and was responsible for writing some of their greatest hits like "Good Vibrations," "God Only Knows," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," among hundreds of other songs. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Iconic '80s Rocker Going Viral With 'God Only Knows' in Memory of Brian Wilson first appeared on Parade on Jun 15, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jun 15, 2025, where it first appeared.

Howard Jones announces second gig in Dublin in November
Due to demand, Howard Jones has announced a second show at Helix Dublin for November 25th, 2025. Jones is also performing on November 24th. Tickets for the new date are available now from the venue box office and Ticketmaster. Advertisement It has been 40 years since the release of Jones' 1985 album, Dream into Action, which peaked at #2 in the UK charts and cracked the US Top 10. The album went on to spawn global hit singles, Things Can Only Get Better (which experienced a resurgence after being featured on an episode of Netflix's Stranger Things) and No One is to Blame, as well as Life in One Day and Like to Get to Know You Well. 1985 was also the year Jones performed at Live Aid, Wembley Stadium, alongside such legendary acts as David Bowie, Paul McCartney, and Phil Collins. 'That album was written while I was on the road,' Jones said. 'I had a studio set-up in every dressing room where we were playing shows. The excitement of being on the road was infused into those songs.' Advertisement Now, Jones is back performing live. 'I feel really pleased that the songs still resonate today. I've always said, it's up to us to make things happen. There are times when we can no longer be bystanders," he said. 'This is the best job in the world, playing songs that people love, and hopefully leaving them inspired by the lyrics. I've always thought my role was that of a cheerleader as we all struggle with the ups and downs of daily life. "We all need a boost when we are trying to put our dreams into action. At the end of the day, my job is to put on an amazing show, and leave people buzzing with a new energy, ready to deal with whatever life throws our way.'

County Durham hen harrier disappearance 'suspicious'
A rare bird has disappeared in "suspicious circumstances", the RSPB young female hen harrier was fitted with a satellite tag which last showed she was roosting on a grouse moor near Hamsterley Forest in County transmissions from this ceased after 15 January and a search of the area by Durham Police found no sign of either the bird or the tag should continue transmitting after death so the fact it cannot be found "strongly suggests human interference", the RSPB said. Hen harriers are rare breeding birds and protected by law. The missing female, hatched in Scotland in 2024 and named Red by local schoolchildren, was fitted with the tag as part of an RSPB programme to gather more information on a "rare and persecuted species". After fledging, Red flew to England and spent the winter in the North Pennines. 'Struggling species' Howard Jones, senior investigations officer for the RSPB, said: "The disappearance of Red is a huge blow for a struggling species where every bird counts. "Should a tagged bird die, its tag would continue transmitting, allowing us to recover the body. "This was not the case, which strongly suggests human interference."The charity and Durham Police have appealed for information. Follow BBC North East on X, Facebook, Nextdoor and Instagram.
