Top international 2027 big man to visit UNC basketball
A top 2027 big man will visit the Tar Heels this week The North Carolina Tar Heels' basketball program was able to land a top 10 recruiting class for the 2025 cycle, and now, Hubert Davis and the staff are hoping to build on that with future classes. Despite no commitments in the 2026 class, UNC does have offers out to several prospects. But they are also starting to work on the 2027 class. On Monday, Jonathan Givony reported that top international big man Sayon Keita will start his visits this week and will travel to six programs: North Carolina, Duke, Kansas, Indiana, UConn, and Kentucky. The official visits started on Monday and will be completed after the sixth visit. Kansas is the first program to receive a visit this week followed by Indiana, Kentucky, Duke, UNC and then UConn to wrap it up on August 2nd. The 7-foot center hails from Spain and is considered the top international big man in the 2027 class. He could reclassify to 2026, which would be huge for whatever program is able to land him. North Carolina was able to land Henri Veesaar out of the transfer portal, as the former Arizona player found a new home. But the Tar Heels will need to reload at the position for future classes. As the Summer continues on, college basketball recruiting will heat up with the open period beginning in July. For the North Carolina Tar Heels they wrapped up a top 10 2025 recruiting class headlined by five-star forward Caleb Wilson. As they welcome that class on campus for the upcoming season, Hubert Davis and his staff continue to build for 2026. Advertisement One target they have on their recruiting board is five-star forward Miikka Muurinen. The Compass Prep product out of Arizona is one of the best players in the 2026 recruiting class, drawing 13 offers so far. He's set some official visits to Arkansas and Michigan this September but on Friday, he officially cut his list down to a final seven. Per Joe Tipton of On3, Muurinen is down to North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, Michigan, NC State, and Indiana in his recruitment. The 6-foot-10, 185-pound recruit is ranked No. 9 nationally, the No. 2 power forward and the No. 1 player in the state of Arizona per the 247Sports recruiting rankings. Advertisement The next step in his recruitment will be to take more visits this Fall and then see where things stand from there. Top-25 class of 2026 basketball recruit includes UNC amongst final eight schools
The North Carolina Tar Heels have several outstanding offers extended to high-profile, Class of 2026 basketball recruits, but are still searching for their first commitment. One of UNC's outstanding offers is to Cole Cloer, who originally hails from Hillsborough, a small town just 30 minutes north of Chapel Hill. Cloer played his first two years of high school ball at Orange High School in Hillsborough, transferred to Caldwell Academy in Greensboro in 2024 and will play 2025 at IMG Academy. Advertisement Cloer is exactly the type of player North Carolina covets: a 6-foot-7 wing who creates instant offense, can guard anyone from 1-5 and brings swagger commonly found within championship programs. Turns out, Cloer also wants to become a future Tar Heel. Cloer recently trimmed his list of suitors down to eight finalists, and UNC is among that eight. Cloer, the Class of 2026's 24th-ranked prospect overall and ninth-ranked small forward – according to 247Sports – is also considering Alabama, Indiana, Louisville, NC State, UConn, Virginia, and reigning national champion Florida. 'I've grown to know them a lot over the past couple of years," Cloer told On3 Sports' Joe Tipton. "I've gone over there a lot. I mean, it's North Carolina basketball, so it doesn't get much better than that. It's close to home, I love Coach (Hubert) Davis, Coach (Jeff) Lebo, and Coach (Sean) May.' Cloer helped Caldwell Academy win its first state championship in program history back in February, with the Eagles defeating the Burlington School in a 73-51 blowout. According to MaxPreps, Cloer averaged 18.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and a career-high 3.8 assists per game cross 27 games played in Greensboro. If you look back at Cloer's career averages, he's a 20-point scorer (20.9 ppg, to be exact). Advertisement If North Carolina plays well during its 2025-2026 campaign, expect to see several recruits announce Chapel Hill as their 2026 college basketball destination. Cloer could be the Tar Heels' first addition amongst a sea of 2026 offers. UNC basketball program offers four-star small forward
Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels have a new target on their 2026 basketball recruiting board. After showing interest in four-star small forward Qaydon Samuels, the Tar Heels have now officially entered the race for the talented prospect. On Sunday, North Carolina offered the four-star recruit out of Maryland. Advertisement Samuels is the latest player to earn an offer from North Carolina and they have been interested in the recruit for a bit now. UNC's interest and Samuels' recent play at the NBPA Top 100 Camp was a perfect storm for an offer to come this weekend ahead of the Summer months. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound small forward plays at Bishop McNamara and is ranked No. 22 nationally, the No. 8 small forward, and the No. 1 player in the state of Maryland per the 247Sports recruiting rankings. He has a total of 21 offers in his recruitment so far with Alabama, Illinois, Kansas, Tennessee, Texas, and Michigan as the programs who have offered so far in addition to North Carolina. UNC freshman an early first-round pick in USA TODAY Sports' NBA Mock Draft
Thanks to Hubert Davis reinforcing his roster through the transfer portal and another solid recruiting class, UNC should return to its contending ways in the 2025-2026 college basketball season. North Carolina added necessary height via the portal, highlighted by 7-foot center Henri Veesaar and 6'11" Alabama transfer Jarin Stevenson. The Tar Heels also nabbed a starting point guard in Kyan Evans, who comes over from Colorado State, plus a pair of shooting guards in Jonathan Powell and Jaydon Young. Advertisement UNC's most anticipated roster addition, though, is 5-star freshman power forward Caleb Wilson. A versatile 6'9" standout who can finish thunderous dunks, score from virtually anywhere on the court, defend anyone and rebound with ease, Wilson should start for Hubert from Day One. Yet to play in a college game, Wilson is still garnering plenty of preseason NBA Draft hype. In USA TODAY Sports' way-too-early 2026 NBA Mock Draft, Wilson will be selected sixth overall. Leading the above Mock Draft is former North Carolina target AJ Dybantsa, who ultimately chose to play at BYU. Darryn Peterson (Kansas), Cam Boozer (Duke), former Tar Heel target Nate Ament (Tennessee) and Karim Lopez, a highly-touted Mexican prospect who plays for the New Zealand Breakers. Wilson is a 5-tool player the Tar Heels and their massive fanbase crave, as he averaged 21.7 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, 3.5 blocks and 1.9 steals per game during his senior high school campaign. Wilson led Holy Innocents Episcopal School to a state championship last fall, earned a McDonalds All-American invite and was named Georgia's 2024-2025 Gatorade Boys' Basketball Player of the Year.
