Popular Huddersfield Railway Station cat Bolt retires
A cat which became one half of a famous feline duo which patrolled the platforms at Huddersfield Railway Station has officially "retired".
Bolt has prowled the West Yorkshire station as a pest controller since 2019, joining initially as an "apprentice" to the beloved cat Felix.
In a statement, the Huddersfield Station Cats Facebook page said Bolt had left to take up permanent residence with owner Jacqui and her other cat.
It added: "Bolt will enjoy the luxuries of being a normal cat who can explore gardens, enjoy the fresh country air and have his (mostly welcome) companion by his side."
The stress and confusion caused by ongoing work at the station had prompted the decision, the post said.
It added: "Huddersfield Station is undergoing extensive work as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade.
"It has been a building site for the past two years and will continue to be so until at least 2027 when the final delivery of the planned improvements will be completed.
"The main components of the TRU are expected to be completed between 2030 and 2033."
Up until now the page, which has over 170,000 followers, posts daily and shares pictures and videos of the pest controller in action.
However, given Bolt's departure from his role the page will now only post occasional updates, its administrators said.
"We're aware this will be disappointing for some but we trust that all fans of the cats and and the Facebook page will appreciate that this is the best solution for all concerned," they said.
Bolt and Felix featured in two Sunday Times bestselling books together, with Bolt being promoted to senior pest controller after Felix passed away in 2023 at the age of 12.
