The Eagles Dodged A HUGE Bullet With Bryce Huff After This...
The Philadelphia Eagles made the decision to trade Bryce Huff earlier this offseason to the San Francisco 49ers. Huff signed a 3-year deal with the Eagles last offseason, but ultimately ended up getting benched as a healthy scratch in the Super Bowl. Huff discussed his thoughts on the Eagles departure and much more on a recent episode of TheSFNiners podcast, which certainly opened a lot of eyes. Today, RB discusses all of this and more!

Eagles free-agent bust Bryce Huff: 'I wanted a trade fairly early on' after signing $51 million contract
One of the biggest free-agent busts in Philadelphia Eagles history is sounding off about his only season with the franchise. Edge rusher Bryce Huff, who the Eagles signed to a three-year, $51.1 million deal ahead of the 2024 season, said in an interview that he knew early on 'it wasn't a fit' and wanted a trade. Huff got his wish to be traded, but not until the offseason, when the Eagles shipped him to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2026 fifth-round pick. Advertisement The Eagles signed Huff to the big-money deal after he posted 10 sacks in 2023 with the New York Jets. He was expected to be a major piece on the defense, especially after the Birds traded Haason Reddick to the Jets. But Huff couldn't find his place in Vic Fangio's defense. He finished with 2.5 sacks, played in just 39% of defensive snaps and wasn't even active for the Eagles' Super Bowl win. In an interview with 'The SFNiners' podcast, Huff said he wanted out of the Eagles 'fairly early on.' 'If I'm being 100 percent honest with you, I wanted a trade fairly early on, just because of how things went in Philly,' said Huff. 'I knew pretty early on that it wasn't a fit. Being a signing of that magnitude, like being undrafted and going and getting that contract and being in Philly, the expectations are at an all-time high. So I knew a trade wasn't going to happen during the season, but I just kind of talked to my agent about it. I was like, 'Yeah, when it is all said and done I might need to step, just to be able to put myself in the best position to ball out and have a fruitful career.'' Huff added that there was a 'plethora of things that went down' with the Eagles, but he wouldn't specify what happened. Advertisement 'Being in the league for five years, I kind of knew what it felt like for me to be… in a good situation,' Huff explained. 'I was like, yeah, I got to look out for myself and do what I think was best. So, I kind of knew where it was headed early in the season, but probably even in training camp if I'm being honest with you.' Huff will be reunited in San Francisco with former Jets head coach Robert Saleh, who returned to the 49ers as defensive coordinator. Related Headlines

Fantasy Basketball Offseason Winners & Losers: Biggest risers, fallers as free agency dust settles
This NBA offseason has been chaotic, with the new collective bargaining agreement driving some hard business decisions across the league. Kevin Durant joining the Houston Rockets and Damian Lillard getting waived are just the tip of the iceberg. As free agency continues, the ripple effects are clear — who's rising, who's falling in fantasy basketball? Let's break it down before we get a closer look at the rookies and early-career players at the Las Vegas Summer League, beginning on Thursday. The Grizzlies traded Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic, and an untimely toe injury to Jaren Jackson Jr. boosts the value for Morant ahead of next season. Given his injury profile, he remains a boom-or-bust pick in the early rounds of drafts. Newly signed F/C Santi Aldama is another winner in the wake of JJJ's injury. I'm probably in the minority because leaving Nikola Jokić objectively sucks. Still, MPJ has a sizable opportunity to become the top option in Brooklyn, especially with Cam Thomas' extension in limbo. Porter finished 75th in per-game value last season and drafting him in the top 80-90 range is a reasonable expectation in 2025-26. Buying out Deandre Ayton was expensive but necessary to get Clingan, the seventh pick of the 2024 NBA Draft, the chance to play a larger role with a budding Blazer squad. There's serious double-double potential with a high volume of blocks. He's a big man who is moving up my draft board quickly. After playing in just 40 games for the Jazz last season, Collins found a new home that should be more lucrative for his fantasy value. He's coming off a campaign where he shot 53/40/85, so when motivated, Collins puts up efficient numbers. Kawhi Leonard's availability is always a question mark, leaving Collins in a favorable position to make an impact with the starting unit as a scorer, rebounder and stock aggregator. In a surprising move, the Pacers did not retain Myles Turner, leaving a significant hole in Indy's frontcourt. Huff could emerge as a late-round sleeper across formats because of his fanasy-friendly skill set. He's got hops, shoots 40% from deep and blocks 2.7 shots per 36 minutes. Huff's got early-season sleeper written all over him. : Kevin Porter Jr., Jalen Green and D'Angelo Russell. There's no threat to Rudy losing his starting gig. However, Naz Reid and Julius Randle inking new deals make it more challenging for him to live up to his projected ADP. Gone are the days of Gobert being a top-50 option in fantasy basketball. He'll be more of a sixth-to-seventh-round option since he can accumulate low-end double-doubles. Okongwu finished as a top-60 fantasy asset in 9-cat leagues after taking over the starting center spot in January. Unfortunately for Okongwu, the Hawks acquired Kristaps Porziņģis. Not ideal. Capela's minutes dipped for the sixth consecutive season, leading to his lowest scoring output in a decade and lowest rebounding numbers since the 2016-17 season. His block rate is trending south, too, and his fantasy value hinges primarily on being a consistent double-double guy who blocks shots. Moving to a new team behind ascending All-Star Alperen Şengün and possibly Steven Adams (Adams is signed for more money), Capela's outlook looks bleak and likely won't be fantasy relevant, barring a trade or injury. The arrival of Kevin Durant and Dorian Finney-Smith isn't a good look for Eason's standing in 9-cat formats. Eason's been excellent on a per-minute basis throughout his young career, but last year's effort saw him leap to sixth-round value. The subtraction of Dillon Brooks (via the Suns trade) seemed to open the door for another breakout-like campaign. That's unfortunately going to be put on ice with KD in the building, DFS entering the rotation and Jabari Smith Jr. signing a lucrative extension this summer. I think Eason will be a productive member of the rotation, but I'm concerned about sustaining at least 25 minutes per night. Mr. Splash Mountain's tenure in Milwaukee is over and it looks like a trip to the bench is next for the 37-year-old center as he decided to join the Clippers via free agency. Lopez has been a reserve in a mere 40 of his 1,105 career NBA games. Either way, a move to the pine means fewer minutes and less fantasy production. Unless you need blocks, Lopez is no longer draftable playing behind Ivica Zubac. : CJ McCollum, Davion Mitchell, Pelicans' frontcourt (Yves Missi, Derik Queen and Kevon Looney = a mess)

Bryce Huff excited by trade to 49ers, 'wasn't a fit' with Eagles
"If I'm being 100% honest with you, I wanted a trade like fairly early on," Huff said in a July 1 appearance on the "The SFNiners" podcast. "And just 'cause of how things went in Philly, I knew pretty early on it wasn't a fit." Huff was coming off a 10.5-sack season with the New York Jets and had signed a three-year, $51 million contract with the Eagles after the trade was completed. That put expectations "at an all-time high" for the former undrafted free agent's first season in Philadelphia. Huff struggled to meet those expectations. He logged just 2.5 sacks across 12 regular-season games while missing five because of a torn ligament in his wrist. He didn't log a sack or tackle in two postseason games before being inactive for Super Bowl 59. "There's a plethora of things that went down. I don't wanna get into specifics," Huff said, addressing his season with the Eagles. "Being in the league for five years, I kinda knew what it felt like for me to be in a good situation." Still, Huff knew he wasn't likely to get a change of scenery during the 2024 NFL season, especially after the Eagles gave him a deal worth $17 million in average annual value (AAV). "I knew a trade wasn't going to happen during the season, but I just talked to my agent about it," Huff said. "I was like, 'Yeah, when it's all said and done, I might need to step, just to put myself in the best position to ball out and have a fruitful career.'" BRYAN BRAMAN: Former Texans, Eagles LB battling 'life-threatening cancer' Huff believes he can achieve that after being traded to the 49ers during the offseason. He has expressed excitement about reuniting with Robert Saleh, who oversaw his career-best seasons with the Jets and now serves as the 49ers defensive coordinator. "Coach Saleh did a great job lining all that up for us in New York, and I saw a lot of guys elevate themselves throughout my three years with them," Huff told Graham. "So, I'm extremely excited to be back here in San Fran. I know last year wasn't my best season at all in Philly, and I had a lot of stuff going down, but one thing led to another, and I got that call from my agent when the trade window opened up and I was on a plane to Santa Clara. So, I'm extremely excited to be here. "I've been here working with the same staff that took me from a basic player to like top of the league in pressure rate, top of the league in win rate, sacks, and whatnot," he added. "I've been here putting in the same work that I put in all those years this summer, and I'm gonna be here until the first day of camp. So I'm excited to see how everything plays out this year with being back in Coach Saleh's scheme and being back with this performance staff."

'I got to look out for myself' Bryce Huff reveals why his Eagles tenure never worked out
(Image via Imagn) Before the 2024 NFL season kicked off, Bryce Huff knew things were off in Philadelphia. The 27-year-old pass rusher, who signed a three-year, $51.1 million deal with the Eagles after a breakout year with the New York Jets, never found his fit in Vic Fangio's defense. On 'The SFNiners' podcast, Huff explained that he saw the writing on the wall almost immediately. 'If I'm being 100% honest with you, I wanted a trade like fairly early on. And just 'cause of how things went in Philly, I knew pretty early on it wasn't a fit,' Huff said last week. 'There's a plethora of things that went down. I don't wanna get into specifics. Being in the league for five years, I kinda knew what it felt like to be in a good situation. ... I kind of knew where it was headed fairly early on into the season, probably even training camp if I'm being honest. ' The Eagles hoped Huff's pass-rushing skills would elevate their defense after he put up 10 sacks with the Jets in 2023. But by Week 4, Huff had just two tackles and no sacks. He missed five games with a torn ligament in his wrist and finished the season with only 2.5 sacks and 13 tackles across 12 games. Despite being part of a roster that eventually won the Super Bowl, Huff remained inactive for the championship game. Fresh start with San Francisco and Robert Saleh 's scheme The Eagles dealt Huff to the San Francisco 49ers in a post-June 1 trade for a 2026 mid-round pick. In San Francisco, Huff reunites with defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who coached him during his most productive stint with the Jets. 'Coach Saleh did a great job lining all that up for us in New York, and I saw a lot of guys elevate themselves throughout my three years with them,' Huff said, via 49ers Web Zone. 'So I'm extremely excited to be back here in San Fran. I know last year wasn't my best season at all in Philly, and I had a lot of stuff going down, but one thing led to another, and I got that call from my agent when the trade window opened up and I was on a plane to Santa Clara. So I'm extremely excited to be here.' 'I've been here working with the same staff that took me from a basic player to like top of the league in pressure rate, top of the league in win rate, sacks, and whatnot. So I've been here putting in the same work that I put in all those years this summer, and I'm gonna be here until the first day of camp. So I'm excited to see how everything plays out this year with being back in Coach Saleh's scheme and being back with this performance staff. ' With All-Pro Nick Bosa leading the 49ers' pass rush and rookie Mykel Williams joining the rotation, Huff is expected to return to a situational role where he previously thrived. The fit with Saleh's system could help him recapture his 2023 form. 'Being a signing of that magnitude and being undrafted and going and getting that contract and being in Philly, the expectations are at an all-time high,' Huff said. 'I knew a trade wasn't going to happen during the season, but I had just kind of talked to my agent about it. I was like, 'When it's all said and done, I might need to step, just to be able to put myself in the best position to ball out and have a fruitful career.'' Outlook: High expectations in a familiar system The move to San Francisco marks a reset for Huff, who called his shot early and made the best of a tough situation. He now gets a second chance in a system that has already brought out the best in his game. 'There's a plethora of things that went down,' Huff said. 'I don't wanna get into specifics. Being in the league for five years, I kinda knew what it felt like for me to be in a good situation. I was just like, I got to look out for myself and do what I think is best. I kind of knew where it was headed fairly early on into the season — probably even training camp, if I'm being honest with you. So when everything popped off, it was kind of just like, let's get to work. ' If Huff can stay healthy and capitalize on the familiarity with Saleh's scheme, the 49ers could get one of the league's most efficient pass rushers back in his ideal role. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.
