Zareen Khan calls out paparazzi culture; pleads for respect for women celebs: "Look at my face, not my body'
Zareen Khan has taken a bold stand against what she calls the 'objectifying gaze' of the paparazzi. In a candid chat, the actress expressed her discomfort over photographers zooming in on women's bodies rather than capturing them respectfully. She said to Hindi Rush, 'I'm not saying all of them do it, but many paps zoom in on areas where there's absolutely no need to.' Calling the practice 'disgusting', she urged the paparazzi to refocus on a celebrity's identity and craft, rather than turning them into clickbait with invasive shots. 'Mujhe Dekho, Ye Nahi' Recently, Zareen made headlines when she firmly confronted photographers who were taking photos of her as she walked into a building. Dressed in a lemon yellow chikankari kurta and jeans, she greeted the paparazzi but soon turned back and said, 'Mujhe dekho, ye nahi (Look at me, not here),' pointing at her back. Zareen questioned why photographers often post close-ups of 'weird body parts' asking followers to 'guess who'. This, she feels disrespects the individuality and work of celebrities. A Call For Change In Media The actress, known for her roles in 'Veer' and 'Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele,' pointed out that even the audience seems tired of such invasive content. 'Earlier, I thought their videos were going viral because of this. But now, even the public is not enjoying it anymore. They also find it disgusting,' she shared. Zareen's words come at a time when actresses like Janhvi Kapoor , Shanaya Kapoor , and Rashami Desai have also expressed discomfort over intrusive pap culture. Actress Zareen Khan has spoken out against a growing trend in paparazzi culture that she believes is disrespectful and objectifying. In a recent interview, she strongly condemned the practice of zooming in on female celebrities' body parts in videos and photos, calling it 'disgusting" and expressing concern about how women in the public eye are being portrayed. 'I cannot really understand today's paparazzi culture. I'm not saying all of them do it, but there are many paps who zoom in on areas where there's absolutely no need to," Zareen said during a conversation with Hindi Rush. The actress, known for her role in Veer, pointed out how such content not only disrespects the subject but also misleads the audience. She added that the focus should be on a celebrity's face and work, not random close-ups. 'A celebrity is known by their face, right? So how can you show some random body part and ask 'Guess who?' And that too a weird body part. I don't understand what they're trying to do," she questioned. In recent months, several public figures including Janhvi Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, Neha Bhasin, Rashami Desai, Mona Singh, Ayesha Khan, and Manushi Chhillar have voiced their discomfort with the media's tendency to capture them from behind or at unflattering angles. Zareen also shared how the trend of such videos going viral seems to be losing steam. 'Earlier, I thought their videos were going viral because of this. But now, even the public, the audience, is not enjoying it anymore. They also find it disgusting," she added. Just recently, she had confronted photographers for clicking her from behind during a public appearance. Dressed in a lemon yellow chikankari kurta paired with denim and jhumkas, she initially greeted the paparazzi but later turned around and firmly said, 'Mujhe dekho, ye nahi (Look at me, not here)," pointing at her back. After captivating audiences across Australia, North America, Canada, and India, Hari Ka Om, the poignant father-son drama starring Anshuman Jha, Soni Razdan, and Raghubir Yadav, is now headed to Europe. The film is set for its European Premiere as the centerpiece gala screening at the prestigious UK Asian Film Festival 2025. The screening will take place on May 7 at London's iconic Regent Street Cinema. Directed by Harish Vyas—known for Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain and Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele—Hari Ka Om marks the third collaboration between him and lead actor Anshuman Jha. The story, set in small-town India, explores the emotional complexities within a generational household, spotlighting the often-unspoken gaps between fathers and sons. 'HARI KA OM is the father-son film we need today, small town India set, deals with issues which occur in nearly every home. It dwells on the fact that without emotional regulation — mistakes can be made by the young & the old.
