Two new Target stores coming to New Jersey. Here's where.
Target recently announced plans to expand its footprint by adding dozens of stores in 22 states, including two new Target stores in New Jersey, with one much larger than an average store. In March, Target announced plans to drive more than $15 billion in sales growth that included investing in opening or remodeling stores that offer "space and flexibility to incorporate the best of Target's shopping experience." The big box store had plans to open a total of 300 stores over the next decade. According to Target's website, the two stores opening in New Jersey are: (Hunterdon County): 325 Route 202 (75,525 square feet, smaller than average store) (Essex County): 235 Prospect Ave. (150,000 square feet, larger than average store) Target notes they chose locations across 22 states based off several factors including community need, site constraints and nearby Target stores. According to the website, there is a Target within 10 miles of most doorsteps in America (although if you live in a rural area, take that with a grain of salt). In addition to two stores opening in New Jersey, two Target stores are opening in New York State and two in Pennsylvania, according to Target's website. States with multiple opening include: California (4) Florida (6) North Carolina (4) South Carolina (3) Texas (6) A tentative opening date for the Target store in West Orange is set for Fall 2025, according to reporting by Patch. Construction was underway in May at the former Kmart in the West Orange Plaza, which is anchored by a Whole Foods supermarket, according to The Target store in Flemington, the first in Hunterdon County, is expected to open this summer, according to Target. It will be open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. The store will be the 53rd to open in the state. Target's new store designs are meant to better service guests and team members, with a more open layout and localized elements to inspire and serve guests, according to Target. Stores will continue to open in all sizes, although the plan is to focus on a larger footprint in the coming years. The new stores will offer updated larger layouts, enhanced in-store pickup options and a larger assortment of merchandise, from food and beverages to entertainment, clothing and accessories. Tree with ‘1.5-million-mile resume' highlighted in Hunterdon County park
A tree that was grown from seeds that once journeyed into outer space is now being featured at a Hunterdon County park. Known as the Space Shuttle Tree, the Pinus strobus-Eastern White Pine found a home at the Arboretum Garden at 1020 Highway 31 in Lebanon after its seeds traveled on the Space Shuttle Columbia. New Jersey native and NASA astronaut Gregory T. Linteris brought the seeds with him during the STS-83 mission in April 1997. The seeds traveled over 1.5 million miles at 17,500 miles per hour before they were germinated by the New Jersey Forest Service. One seedling found its forever home in Hunterdon County on Arbor Day, April 29, 2011, where it continues to thrive today. Local news: This winery just became one of the first in NJ with a full-service restaurant 'This tree is a symbol of what's possible when science and nature come together — it's not every day that a tree with a 1.5-million-mile resume finds its place in our garden,' said Commissioner Director Lanza in a release. 'We hope the Space Shuttle Tree inspires both kids and adults to come visit the Arboretum grounds and see for themselves the product of innovation and environmental stewardship.' 'Eastern White Pines have been present in North America for thousands of years, with their seeds often spread by migratory songbirds,' said Division Head of Parks & Recreation Ryan Preston in a release. 'The Space Shuttle tree has a more thrilling origin — it traveled 184 miles into space. Here at Hunterdon County Parks and Recreation, we strive to combine education and exploration in a meaningful way, and this tree is a perfect example of such a union.' West Amwell Fire Company celebrates 75 years of service
Hunterdon County Commissioner Zach Rich joined the West Amwell Fire Company (WAFC) June 14 in celebrating its 75th anniversary, commemorating decades of service and dedication to the local community. Rich presented a proclamation on behalf of the commissioners in recognition of the milestone, highlighting the fire company's commitment to fire protection and rescue services since its inception. 'For 75 years, the West Amwell Fire Company has stood as a pillar of strength and resilience,' Rich stated. 'I would like to thank the men and women of the WAFC for their commitment and selfless service in protecting lives and property. Their sacrifices do not go unnoticed, and today we celebrate their lasting impact on the safety and well-being of our residents.' Founded in the late 1940s, the West Amwell Fire Company has served the residents of West Amwell Township and parts of Delaware Township. What began as a small group of dedicated volunteers has grown into a modern, well-equipped department operating out of two stations. Today, the company maintains a diverse fleet ― including a ladder truck, engine, rescue vehicles, brush trucks, and watercraft ― supporting both fire suppression and rescue operations. 'As a long-time West Amwell resident, I have witnessed firsthand the dedication and courage of this Fire Company. These are not just first responders ― they are neighbors, friends, and the heart of this township,' Rich stated. The 75th anniversary celebration was marked by tributes, shared stories and reaffirmation of the fire company's mission.
