Watch: 'Invasion' gets Season 3 teaser, Aug. premiere date

July 2 (UPI) -- Apple TV+ is previewing Season 3 of Invasion, its sci-fi series starring Golshifteh Farahani, Shamier Anderson and Shioli Kutsuna. The streamer released a trailer for the upcoming season, which premieres with a single episode Aug. 22. In the preview released Wednesday, viewers hear a voice declare that "humanity's time is over." The clip concludes with an apparent alien's clicking noise. Invasion follows the aftermath of an alien invasion in different parts of the world, and Season 3 will see the characters meet one another as they "work as a team on a critical mission to infiltrate the alien mothership," and hopefully save the human race, an official synopsis states. The series was created by Simon Kinberg (The Martian) and David Weil (Hunters), and also stars India Brown, Shane Zaza, Enver Gjokaj and Erika Alexander.

The movie centers around a popular TV show whose contestants have to survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins. Each and every one of their moves are broadcast to the public while every day of survival brings a bigger cash reward. "Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Powell) is convinced by the show's charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), to enter the game as a last resort," according to the film's official synopsis. "But Ben's defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite—and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall." Along with Powell and Brolin, the film stars Colman Domingo, Lee Pace, Jayme Lawson, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones and William H. Macy. A previous film adaptation of King's novel starring Arnold Schwarzenegger was released in 1987.

The "Twisters" star, 36, steps into the role previously played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the first trailer for "The Running Man," a new adaptation of the 1982 Stephen King novel. Powell stars as Ben Richards, a man who enters a televised competition show where contestants are hunted by professional assassins. The trailer shows Ben, who is caring for his sick daughter, being recruited for the show by its producer, played by Josh Brolin. Colman Domingo also appears in the footage as the show's charismatic host. Edgar Wright, whose previous films include "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz," directs "The Running Man." His signature directing style, including fast-paced editing and the use of quick zooms, is on display in the footage.
