Mass march & events in Amran commemorating Imam Hussein (AS) martyrdom

Amran - Saba: Amran province witnessed on Sunday a mass march and events commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein bin Ali (peace be upon them) under the slogan "Hiyah minna al-thillah" (Never to Humiliation). Participants in the march, held in the province center and led by Governor Dr. Faisal Ja'man, General Mobilization Official Sajjad Hamza, Deputy Governor Hassan Al-Ashqas, and District Director Abdulrahman Al-Ammad, emphasized that commemorating Ashura is a mobilizing and spiritual occasion to draw lessons from the bravery of Imam Hussein (AS) and to reaffirm continued support for the Palestinian people and the oppressed. They pointed out that the Muslim Ummah's deviation from the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his household (PBUT) has led to its current state of weakness and vulnerability, stressing that the ongoing events in Gaza are an extension of the empowerment of Jews and Christians to dominate the Ummah. They explained that the Yemeni people, while marking this occasion amid their own suffering, are reinterpreting Karbala through the lens of Palestine, seeing in Hussein's blood the spark of resistance, in his sword the path to dignity, and in his patience the foundation for building an unbreakable nation. The participants affirmed that Yemen remains steadfast in the values and principles championed by Imam Hussein's revolution in supporting truth, following his path in defending the Ummah's causes, and sacrificing in the face of American-Zionist aggression and its regional tools. Cultural events and seminars were also held across the governorate's districts, attended by local directors, executive leaders, and social figures. Speeches at the events highlighted that commemorating this painful milestone in Islamic history stems from faith-based belonging and expresses unwavering loyalty to the Prophet (PBUH) and his household (PBUT). They addressed the genocide and displacement conspiracy faced by the people of Gaza, noting that the Zionist enemy and its global backers have failed in the face of Palestinian resilience and heroic resistance. They emphasized that this year's Ashura commemoration takes place amid the tragedy befalling Palestinians in Gaza, which bears stark similarities to the calamity of Karbala endured by Imam Hussein (AS). Large Crowds Commemorate Tenth of Muharram in Beirut's Southern Suburbs

In a majestic scene that embodies the highest meanings of sacrifice and loyalty, thousands of believers gathered this Sunday morning in the southern suburb of Beirut, the suburb of resistance, the suburb of the martyr leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, to commemorate the tenth day of Muharram, the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein bin Ali (peace be upon him), his family and companions in Karbala. Following a central council held by Hezbollah at the Sayyed al-Shuhada complex in the southern suburb, large crowds set out on an Ashura march. The march aimed to answer the call of Hussein (peace be upon him), with participants echoing the sentiment: 'We have not abandoned you… humiliation is far from us.' Millions of Muslims around the world commemorate today the martyrdom of Imam Hussein bin Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be upon him), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), on the tenth of Muharram, which this year corresponds to July 6, 2025.

Iraqi provinces showcase distinctive Ashura rituals

Shafaq News – Karbala/Babil Communities across Iraq continue to uphold distinctive rituals blending faith and cultural tradition as millions of pilgrims converge on Karbala to observe the annual Ashura commemorations marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussein bin Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. In Karbala province, the largest ceremonies unfold at the shrines of Imam Hussein, who was killed along with his family and companions in the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE, and his half-brother Al-Abbas, where crowds pray, mourn, and distribute free food and water. Elsewhere across the province, smaller local observances persist. Each morning during the Islamic month of Muharram, residents set up mourning tents outside homes and businesses, reciting religious poetry and retelling the Karbala narrative before returning to work — maintaining a balance between spiritual devotion and daily life. The mourning period extends until Arbaeen, forty days after Ashura, when millions again travel to Karbala to honor Imam Hussein's legacy of sacrifice and resistance against oppression — a cornerstone of Shiite identity worldwide. In Babil's Al-Qasim district, residents revived the centuries-old Torch-Raising Ceremony during the first ten days of Muharram. Young men paraded with flaming torches alongside large scale public processions, known as Husseini marches, featuring rhythmic chest-beating (Latm), religious chants, and elegies recalling the Karbala tragedy. They also performed Sword Drills — a martial display of choreographed blade movements symbolizing courage and unity, paying tribute to those who fought alongside Imam Hussein. So far this week, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims have arrived in Karbala through border crossings and via Najaf and Baghdad international airports. The total number of visitors is expected to exceed 20 million, consistent with previous years. The event ranks among the largest annual religious gatherings globally.

Imam Hussein commemorations draw millions to Karbala

Shafaq News – Karbala Millions of Shiite pilgrims are arriving in Karbala this week to observe the annual Ashura commemorations marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussein bin Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, who was killed along with his family and companions in the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE. The mourning rituals, held during the first ten days of the Islamic month of Muharram, include large-scale public processions known as Husseini marches. These processions, which feature rhythmic chest-beating (Latm), the recitation of elegies, and the distribution of food and water, continue from early morning until late at night in the areas surrounding the shrines of Imam Hussein and his half-brother Al-Abbas. Hundreds of processions from Iraqi provinces, along with delegations from Arab and foreign countries, have joined the ceremonies. Shrine administrations in Karbala have deployed continuous support teams to manage the increasing number of visitors ahead of Tasu'a and Ashura, the 9th and 10th of Muharram, when the rituals reach their climax. In the past 24 hours alone, over 18,000 pilgrims entered Karbala through Wasit province. However, hundreds of thousands more have also arrived through other border crossings and via Najaf and Baghdad international airports, contributing to a total number of visitors that is expected to exceed 20 million, consistent with previous years. The event ranks among the largest annual religious gatherings globally.
