Sea mines, new air defence system, fighter jets, India's weapons worth Rs 100000000000 will send shivers down spine of China and Pakistan
New Delhi: After Operation Sindoor, preparations are underway to make India's army more powerful. The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC), headed by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, is going to hold an important meeting this week, in which proposals worth more than Rs 1 lakh crore can be approved. What is Defense Acquisition Council and its role? This council is the top unit of the Ministry of Defense, which takes decisions to buy big weapons and technology for the Indian Army. In this meeting, many important proposals will be placed for the Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. There will be special emphasis on systems related to surveillance, air defense and maritime security. Its purpose is to make the three forces of the country more modern and strengthen India on the security front. According to a TOI report, the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) is going to approve many big proposals this week to further strengthen India's defense preparedness. These include two important projects that will take the capabilities of the Army and the Air Force to new heights. How will Indian Army benefit? Under this proposal costing around Rs 30,000 crore, the Indian Army will get the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile System (QRSAM) developed by DRDO. This system is capable of instantly eliminating air threats coming within a range of 30 kilometers. This is considered a big step towards strengthening India's layered air defense i.e. layer-by-layer air security. What is I-STAR aircraft? The Indian Air Force is going to buy three new I-STAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Targeting and Reconnaissance) aircraft. These aircraft will be procured from international manufacturers, which will later be modified in India in collaboration with DRDO's Airborne System Center and private companies. These aircraft will prove to be very effective in providing accurate information in the battlefield, monitoring enemy activities and planning accurate attacks. What will DRDO manufacture? The Indian Navy has proposed to include special mines (landmines) to stop enemy submarines and ships in the sea. These mines have been made by DRDO, which can attack the enemy while staying in the depths of the sea. Other weapons Indian Air Force's 84 Sukhoi-30 MKI (Su-30MKI) fighter jets will now be made more powerful. New weapons, radars and electronic systems will be installed in these aircraft, so that more accurate attacks can be made on the enemy. The Navy is now preparing to bring pilotless underwater drones. These drones will keep an eye on enemy submarines and activities and will help in gathering intelligence.

Defence Ministry to discuss spy planes, air defence systems, sea mines in key acquisition meet
New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): At a time when the Operation Sindoor is still on, the Defence Acquisition Council led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to meet this week to take up proposals worth over Rs one lakh crore for modernising the defence forces are expected to be taken up for clearance. The list of proposals worth over Rs one lakh crore for buying equipment for modernisation has been listed in the meeting agenda planned around end of this week, defence sources told ANI. To strengthen the air defence capabilities of the country, the Quick Reaction Surface-to-air missile system made by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) would be taken up for clearance for the Indian Army. The project worth around Rs 30,000 crore, would be critical for the Indian Army's air defence capabilities as the system can be effective against targets up to 30 kms. The Indian Air Force would be putting up a proposal for buying three spy planes for keeping a track of enemy activities on the ground under the I-STAR programme. The Intelligence, Surveillance, Targetting and Reconnaissance aircraft would be critical for the Air Force's plans to take out ground targets in future, the sources said. The three aircraft would be acquired from an original equipment manufacturer and then be modified by the DRDO lab Centre for Airborne Systems in partnership with private partners. The Indian Navy would also be fielding a proposal for DRDO-developed Pressure-based Moored Mines at the meeting, which are to be used for targeting enemy submarines and surface ships. The project for upgrading the capabilities of the 84 Su-30MKI fighter jets is also expected to come up for discussion. The project has already been given the go-ahead by the DAC earlier. Underwater autonomous vessels are also scheduled to be taken up for clearance by the DAC, which would be meeting for the first time after the Operation Sindoor. The DAC is the highest body in the defence ministry for capital procurements for modernisation. (ANI)

Defence Ministry set to clear major acquisitions post Operation Sindoor
In its first meeting since the launch of Operation Sindoor, the Ministry of Defence is expected to clear a series of key acquisition projects aimed at bolstering the operational capabilities of the armed forces, including procurement of spy aircraft, air defence missile systems, sea mines, and autonomous underwater platforms. A senior Defence official confirmed on Monday (June 30, 2025) that a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) is scheduled to take place this week, marking the first convening of the body following the high-profile military operation. Among the major items on the agenda is a proposal for enhancing India's air defence network along the Pakistan border. The Council is expected to approve the procurement of three regiments of the indigenously developed Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile systems for the Indian Army. The system, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), will be produced by defence public sector undertakings. The Indian Air Force is likely to seek clearance for the acquisition of three airborne platforms under the Intelligence, Surveillance, Targeting, and Reconnaissance (I-STAR) programme. 'These aircraft will play a crucial role in future operations aimed at targeting ground-based threats,' the official said. The platforms will be sourced from an original equipment manufacturer and modified indigenously by the DRDO's Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS), in collaboration with private industry partners. The Indian Navy, meanwhile, is set to field a proposal for the induction of pressure-based moored mines developed by the DRDO. These sea mines are designed to target enemy submarines and surface vessels. The long-pending project for upgrading 84 Su-30MKI fighter aircraft is also expected to be discussed at the meeting. The project has already received preliminary clearance from the DAC. Additionally, a proposal for the procurement of underwater autonomous vessels is scheduled to be taken up for approval. The vessels are expected to augment the Navy's surveillance and underwater combat capabilities. The meeting is being closely watched as it marks a potential turning point in the armed forces' post-Operation Sindoor modernisation push.
