India to set up Skill Development Centre, support 'Feed Ghana', and provide affordable healthcare through Jan Aushadhi Kendra: PM Modi
Accra (Ghana) [India], July 3 (ANI): India will establish a Skill Development Centre to train youth and support Ghana's 'Feed Ghana' programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Wednesday (local time), as part of a broader plan to strengthen ties between the two countries. During a joint press briefing with Ghanaian President John Mahama, PM Modi said India would expand cooperation with Ghana in key sectors including agriculture, education, defence, healthcare and digital payments. 'Today, we have decided to double the ITEC and ICCR scholarships for Ghana. Work will be done to establish a Skill Development Centre for vocational education of youth,' PM Modi said. 'In the agricultural sector, we would be happy to cooperate with President Mahama's 'Feed Ghana' program. Through Jan Aushadhi Kendra, India proposes to provide 'affordable healthcare, reliable care' to the citizens of Ghana. We discussed cooperation in vaccine production,' he added. The Prime Minister also said that India plans to double trade with Ghana within the next five years and offer its digital payments system, Bharat UPI, to boost financial connectivity. 'We have decided to double our trade within the next 5 years. In the area of FinTech, Bharat UPI will share the digital payment experience with Ghana,' PM Modi said. Calling India a close partner, he announced the formal upgrade of bilateral ties. 'The President and I have agreed to elevate our bilateral relationship to the level of a 'Comprehensive Partnership.' India is more than just a partner; it stands as a co-traveller in Ghana's journey toward nation-building,' PM Modi said. He also underlined the need for greater cooperation in the field of security under a shared approach. 'In the defence and security sector, we will move forward with the mantra of 'Security through Solidarity'. Cooperation will be increased in areas like training of armed forces, maritime security, defence supply and cyber security,' he said. PM Modi expressed his thanks to Ghana for working closely with India on counter-terrorism. 'We stand united in recognising terrorism as a grave threat to humanity. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ghana for its valuable cooperation in the fight against terrorism. In this regard, we have resolved to further enhance our mutual collaboration in counter-terrorism efforts,' he said. President Mahama welcomed the Indian Prime Minister and said the visit reflected the long-standing friendship between the countries. 'This visit is a testament to the deep rooted historical ties between Ghana and India founded on the visionary leadership of Ghana's first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and India's former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, as well as the ever-growing bonds of friendship and cooperation that exist between our two sisterly countries for the mutual benefit of our people,' he said. He said both sides held discussions on cooperation in areas such as agriculture, energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, healthcare and human resources. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in over 30 years. The trip is expected to deepen the India-Ghana partnership and signal New Delhi's continued engagement with Africa and the Global South. (ANI)

AU alumni association will set up regional chapters abroad: VC
Visakhapatnam: Andhra University (AU) alumni association will establish regional chapters in foreign countries, said AU vice-chancellor Prof GP Rajasekhar. He inaugurated the exit engagement evening (E³) programme jointly organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and AU on the beach road. "All foreign students have become an integral part of AU and India. I urge the AU alumni abroad to work towards enhancing the reputation of the university overseas," he said. ICCR scholarship division director Sanjiv Vedi said that foreign students who complete their education at AU and return to their countries carry Indian values with them. "This programme adds further value to the friendship between India and various countries. I encourage the graduating students to raise awareness about ICCR's services among students in their countries to benefit more people. ICCR provides scholarships necessary for foreign students' education, which is a unique and diverse initiative," said Sanjiv. AU registrar Prof EN Dhanamjaya Rao said that over 1,100 foreign students from 59 countries are pursuing their education at AU. He congratulated the foreign students for choosing Andhra University and assured them that they would receive a quality education at AU.

AU providing safe and secure environment for foreign students, says Vice-Chancellor
Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.P. Rajasekhar on Saturday said that the AU alumni associations abroad would be formed soon. He was speaking at Exit-Engagement-Evening (E3) organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in association with Andhra University, at the AU Convention Centre here on Saturday (June 28). Prof. Rajasekhar said that more than 1,000 students from more than 50 countries are studying at the AU. He said that the ICCR is happy with AU for providing a safe and secure environment and quality education to foreign students. He said that steps are being taken to form AU alumni associations abroad, where alumni can come together and work for the welfare of the institutions and enhance the name and reputation of the university. ICCR Director (Scholarships) Sanjay Vedi said that the university students are returning to their home country with the true spirit of Indian culture. He urged the students to promote AU pride in their countries.

T'puram: The University of Kerala is fast establishing itself as a leading international education destination, experiencing significant growth in foreign student enrolments over four years. For the 2025-26 academic year, the institution received 2,620 applications from 81 nations, marking a substantial increase from 1,100 students in 2021-22. According to Prof Sabu Joseph, director of the Centre for Global Academics (CGA), the university maintains its position as Kerala's foremost institution for international student intake. "The numbers demonstrate consistent growth 1,100 students from 35 countries in 2021-22, increasing to 1,400 in 2022-23, 1,600 in 2023-24 and 2,600 in 2024-25 from 64 countries. The 2025-26 academic year saw 2,620 applications from 81 countries, all submitted to the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) portal for selection," he said. The current application distribution includes 1,265 for undergraduate programmes, 1,020 for postgraduate courses, and 335 for PhD studies.
