Head, Nissanka and Pretorius prosper in ICC Men's Test Player Rankings

Travis Head, Pathum Nissanka and Lhuan-dre Pretorius have all made huge gains in the ICC Men's Test Player Rankings after their match-winnings efforts with the bat this past week. Left-hander Head has gained three places to move back into the top 10 for batters after scores of 59 and 61 in a low-scoring first Test of the three-match ICC World Test Championship (WTC) series against the West Indies in Bridgetown that Australia won by 159 runs. Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka has galloped 14 places to 17th after scoring 159 in Sri Lanka's innings and 78 runs victory in the second Test against Bangladesh that helped win the WTC series 1-0 while debutant Pretorius has entered the rankings in 68th position after the left-hander struck 153 runs as South Africa defeated Zimbabwe by 328 runs in Bulawayo to take a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series. There were also huge gains for other South Africa batters in the latest weekly update, but regular captain Temba Bavuma not featuring in the Bulawayo Test meant that he ceded ground to India's Rishabh Pant, who is now in sixth position, just one below his career-best ranking of fifth that he had attained in July 2022. Wiaan Mulder (up 17 places to 56th) and Corbin Bosche (up 15 places to 59th) of South Africa and Zimbabwe's Sean Williams (up two places to a career-best 15th) have also progressed after notching centuries in Bulawayo while Craig Ervine's scores of 36 and 49 have lifted him four places to 48th. Other batters to progress include the Sri Lanka pair of Dinesh Chandimal (up two places to 13th) and Kusal Mendis (up four places to 30th), and Australia's Ben Webster (up 11 places to 52nd) while the West Indies' John Campbell and captain Roston Chase have re-entered the rankings in 80th and 85th positions, respectively. Hazlewood fourth in bowling rankings: The ICC Men's Test Bowling Rankings led by Jasprit Bumrah see Australia's Josh Hazlewood move up one slot to fourth position after finishing with seven wickets in Bridgetown including a five-for in the second innings. Left-arm spinners Prabhath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka and Taijul Islam of Bangladesh have also moved up after five-wicket hauls in the Colombo Test. Jayasuriya has gone up one slot to joint-14th position and Taijul is up two places to 16th. Jason Holder (up one place to 33rd), Shamar Joseph (up one place to 35th) and Chase (re-entered at 56th) of the West Indies and the South Africa pair of Mulder (up six places to 52nd) and Bosche (up 45 places to 57th) have also progressed. Smriti Mandhana Achieves What Only Rohit Sharma And One Other Have In T20Is

In a landmark moment for Indian women's cricket, Smriti Mandhana became only the third Indian cricketer — and the first Indian woman — to feature in 150 T20 Internationals. The milestone came during the second T20I between India Women and England Women at the County Ground in Bristol on July 1, 2025. Mandhana now stands shoulder to shoulder with Indian legends Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur in this elite T20I club, adding yet another glittering feather to her already illustrious cap. This achievement comes on the heels of her breathtaking century in the opening T20I at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, a knock that has not only boosted her ICC rankings but also redefined her stature as a modern great in the women's game. On June 28, Smriti Mandhana lit up Trent Bridge with one of the most dominant innings in Women's T20I history. Her knock of 112 off just 62 balls, peppered with 15 fours and three sixes, was a batting masterclass in placement, power, and poise. It was the highest individual score ever by an Indian in Women's T20Is and helped India crush England by a mammoth 97 runs — their biggest defeat in the format at home. With this ton, Mandhana etched her name in the history books as the first Indian woman to score centuries in all three formats of the game — Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. Among Indian men, only Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Suresh Raina have managed this rare feat. Mandhana's milestone 150th T20I appearance came after a consistent run of performances. She entered the match with 3,873 runs at an average of 30.02 and a strike rate of 124.41, featuring one century and 30 fifties. Currently second only to New Zealand's Suzie Bates on the all-time Women's T20I run-scorers list, Mandhana is now just 127 runs away from becoming the second player ever — after Bates — to breach the 4000-run mark in Women's T20Is. In men's cricket, this elite club includes Babar Azam, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma — further highlighting Mandhana's place among the game's global elite. Climbing the ICC Rankings: World No. 3 in T20Is Thanks to her recent exploits, Mandhana has surged to third in the ICC Women's T20I Batting Rankings, her career-best with 771 rating points. She now trails only West Indies' Hayley Matthews (774) and Australia's Beth Mooney (794). This leap follows her Player-of-the-Match performance in the first T20I and solidifies her position as one of the most feared batters in the women's game. Among other Indians, Shafali Verma moved up to 13th after her 20-run knock, while Harleen Deol re-entered the rankings in joint-86th following her quickfire 43. On the bowling front, England's Lauren Bell climbed to 4th after her impressive 3-wicket haul in the first T20I. A Defining Chapter in Indian Women's Cricket Smriti Mandhana's journey from a teenage prodigy to a globally revered opener has been nothing short of inspirational. Her 150th T20I is more than just a number — it's a testament to her durability, adaptability, and impact. As India eyes another victory in the ongoing series, Mandhana remains the heartbeat of their batting lineup, seamlessly blending elegance with aggression. As the series continues, all eyes will remain fixed on Mandhana — not just to break the 4000-run barrier but to keep inspiring the next generation of cricketers with her unmatched grace, grit, and game awareness.

Bell, Mandhana headline ICC Women's T20I Player Rankings

England fast bowler Lauren Bell and India's stand-in skipper Smriti Mandhana have registered huge gains in the ICC Women's T20I Player Rankings after stellar performances in the opening match of their five-match series in Nottingham. Bell has moved up two slots to reach a career-best fourth position among bowlers after taking three wickets while Mandhana, who smashed an electrifying 62-ball 112 runs to set up an emphatic 97-run victory, has risen one slot to third place and a career-best 771 ratings points. The hosts suffered their heaviest T20I defeat in the opening fixture at Trent Bridge thanks to the heroics of Mandhana and left-arm spinner, Shree Charani, who took four wickets on debut to enter the rankings in 450th position. Mandhana's opening partner Shafali Verma has moved up one slot to 13th position after scoring 20 runs and Harleen Deol has re-entered the rankings in 86th position on the back of a 43 off 23 balls. England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt is another one to gain in the latest weekly update after top-scoring for her team with 66 off 42 deliveries. She has gained 20 rating points to reach a career-best aggregate of 663 while retaining ninth position. To know more about the ICC Rankings, please click here.

India Coach Gives Update On Bumrah's 2nd Test Availability: 'Technically, Yes..'

Last Updated: Jasprit Bumrah will be available for the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Edgbaston but, a final decision on his participation is yet to be made. Indian men's cricket team assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate announced that Jasprit Bumrah will be available for the second Test of the five-match series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham, starting July 2. 'Bumrah is available for the game. We knew from the start he would play only 3 out of the 5 Tests. He's had 8 days to recover from the last match, but considering the conditions and his workload, we haven't made a final decision yet. We also need to assess the other players' workloads. So technically, yes, he is available, but we haven't decided if he will play," Ryan ten Doeschate said at the press conference on Monday. 'Yeah, so with Bumrah he is ready to play, uh, so like I said in the first, very first question, it's how we manage these 4 tests. So if we feel like there's value in playing him in this test, we'll make that call at the very last minute, but you know I'm talking about whether, uh, how the pitcher's gonna play, are we better off holding him back for Lords and and maybe Manchester or or or the Oval, so it's all those factors, but you know you've seen him train yesterday, he trained a little bit today, it's not like he's not fit to play. It's just trying to, you know, fit those puzzle pieces to get the most out of him out of the out of what we know we do have from him," he added. Will Bumrah Play 2nd Test? Earlier, reports suggested that Bumrah is likely to be rested for the second Test and is expected to return for the third Test with an eye on managing his workload. Bumrah was India's standout bowler in the first innings of the opening Test at Headingley in Leeds, taking a five-wicket haul that helped India gain a narrow six-run lead. However, he went wicketless in the second innings as England successfully chased a challenging target of 371, winning the match by five wickets. It was clear during team selection that Bumrah would play only four of the five scheduled Tests to manage his workload. Both skipper Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir had stated they would decide later which four matches Bumrah would play. A report on Thursday suggested that Bumrah is likely to miss the second Test. Bumrah, currently at the top of the ICC Rankings for Bowlers, is considered the best in his trade. In his absence, the Indian bowling unit appears weaker, as Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur, and Mohammed Siraj have struggled with consistency and conceded easy runs to England, ultimately costing India the match. Could not believe how poorly Ravindra Jadeja bowled at Headingley: Ex-England batter

Mark Butcher said that he was baffled by Ravindra Jadeja's performance in the first Test against England as India lost the game. Jadeja, the only spinner that was used by India in the game, failed to make an impact with the ball and conceded 178 runs over the course of both innings. The left-arm spinner's performance on the final day caught the eye of the pundits, with Sanjay Manjrekar being critical of his tactical ineptness and not bowling on the rough patches. Buther, while talking on the Wisden Cricket Weekly Podcast, said that he could not believe how poorly Jadeja bowled and said it was like owning a hammer and using your fist to punch in nails. The former England cricketer also pointed to the fact that the veteran spinner didn't look to land the ball on the rough until it was too late. advertisement"'I could not believe how poorly he bowled, really. I'd likened it to owning a hammer but punching nails in with your fist instead – not landing the ball in the rough at all until, basically, it was too late. That was extraordinary, really," said Butcher. Butcher said that for some reason it didn't click to either Jadeja or Rishabh Pant it would have been a good idea to try the rough patches to the left-handers. 'You talk about experience, and he has all the experience in the world. Somehow, it didn't seem to click to him or Rishabh Pant, the keeper, that it might be a good idea not to keep missing the rough all day to the left-handers," said Butcher. Jadeja's recent struggles in Test cricketSince the conclusion of the New Zealand series at home, Jadeja has endured a tough period in Test cricket. In the four matches he has played since then, Jadeja has picked up just five wickets. Being picked in the side as a lone spinner due to his batting ability, the veteran star is yet to cross the 30-run mark in his last six innings. The popr bowling performances have seen Jadeja drop out of the top 10 bowlers list in the ICC Rankings. India and England will square off in the second Test from July 2. - EndsMust Watch
