Agency: PTI New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI) The 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will have a renewed focus on youth and open new avenues for student film-makers and content creators, an official statement said on Friday. The statement was issued after the first meeting of the Steering Committee in Mumbai chaired by Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The steering committee also decided to re-brand the Film Bazaar, held as part of the IFFI, as the WAVES Film Bazaar. This is part of a broader strategic vision to position India as a global hub for content, creativity and co-productions, the statement said. The 56th IFFI will be held in Goa from November 20 to 28. 'With a renewed focus on youth, the festival will open new avenues for student film-makers and young content creators through curated master classes, industry workshops and networking platforms that connect new voices with global mentors," the statement said. The committee includes film personalities such as Anupam Kher, Guneet Monga Kapoor, Suhasini Maniratnam, Khushboo Sundar, Pankuj Parashar and Prasoon Joshi, bringing a wealth of expertise from across cinema, production, media and cultural leadership. Edited excerpts of the interview: What are the changes that you plan to bring about? NFDC being one of the premier organisations of the government of India and now after the merger of other film organizations, the mandate has really become very comprehensive. But first and foremost, supporting the Indian independent filmmakers, has been the prime objective of NFDC that we will continue to do. At the same time, we also want to promote Indian cinema worldwide. We want to promote Indian cinema as soft power. And, third thing, since it is now part of the ecosystem, it means preserving the legacy, preserving the cinematic heritage of our country. Apart from restoration and preservation, we have to make cinema accessible. And, last but not the least, you know, promoting India as a filming destination so that we can get, foreign filmmakers to come and shoot in India. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD There is an attractive incentive scheme which has been announced by the government of India in the ministry of information broadcasting. So, we have a portal called 'India Hub'. It's kind of a single window system where you can submit all your applications online, and we will facilitate everything. What are the different genres of movies we will get to see at this year's IFFI? It's going to be different. IFFI always had two sections, Indian panorama and the international section that will be a part of the setup. At the same time, Film Bazaar is an important activity which happens during IFFI. A lot of budding filmmakers have emerged out of Film Bazaar. Right from the script stage, work in progress, co-production, market, mentoring, a film viewing room, all those things are all different verticals. **Cinema is also changing. There are films made for the theatrical, for OTT, and some for the festivals. What do you have to say about that benefit? ** You are absolutely right. Both theatrical releases as well as the streaming platforms we are exploring. In fact, we just have signed an agreement with Amazon where the NFDC filmography can be seen on its platform. We also are in touch with Prasar Bharati. They have their own platform. So that also we are exploring. Women's roles are also changing in cinema; what do you have to say about that bit of it? It is a content part of it. I think we need to support the writers as well, you know, the screenwriters specifically. And we are thinking of a scriptwriter's lab, but we also are thinking how we can take it to different corners of the country. And in that process, the women filmmakers, the women storytellers, also.

Delhi gears up to host first International film festival in February 2026
NEW DELHI: After a delay of two years, the Delhi government is finally set to host the city's first International Film Festival in February next year. Officials from the tourism department confirmed that preparations have begun with the initiation of the process to hire a consultant, who will be designing the roadmap for the much-anticipated event. 'The consultant will oversee all aspects of the festival's execution, including coordinating with stakeholders, securing sponsorships, curating events, managing promotions, and handling the overall administration of the festival,' a senior official from the department said. The idea is to launch a festival modelled on the lines of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which is held annually by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the official added. Initially planned for 2023, the festival was deferred due to the unavailability of venues during the G-20 summit and subsequent administrative delays under the previous government. The international film festival was among the key announcements in the Delhi Government's Budget for 2022–23 and part of the broader Delhi Film Policy launched in 2022 to promote the capital as a production-friendly destination for filmmakers. Sharing the details, the official said that the festival will feature awards and competitions across various categories, with a focus on independent and foreign films.
