72,000 litres ATF fuel seized, six arrested in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Monday claimed to have busted an Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) smuggling racket and arrested six people involved in siphoning off the jet fuel and selling it in black market. According to police, the racket was being operated from a godown in Mundka area, from where they recovered 72,000 litres of ATF fuel, saving the national exchequer from a monthly loss of Rs 1.62 crore. Two persons have been arrested. Based on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at a concealed godown in Mundka village. Three oil tankers, each loaded with 24,000 litres of ATF, were found to be siphoned using pipes into barrels, DCP (Crime) Aditya Gautam said. Two pick-up trucks meant for further transportation of stolen fuel were also seized. Additionally, duplicate master keys, barrels filled with stolen ATF, and Rs 1.05 lakh in cash were recovered from the spot. The ATF was originally loaded at the HPCL Asoda Depot, Bahadurgarh, in Haryana, for delivery to IGIA. The accused drivers, in collusion with the transporter and godown operator, manipulated the GPS tracking system and diverted the tankers to the Mundka godown for commissioning the crime.

West Asia crisis hits ops at IGI, runway closure to add to woes

New Delhi: As the Israeli defence forces struck Iran, leading to the closure of the airspace over large part of West Asia, several flights bound for that region were cancelled, delayed or diverted. This impacted flight operations between India and Europe. While it is still unclear when operations through West Asia will resume, a double whammy looms for Delhi, which will shut down one of its four runways at IGI International Airport for upgradation from Sunday, until Sept 15, impacting over 200 flights daily. IGIA officials said that while there were no issues with domestic or international travel to other regions like Southeast Asia, and that flight operations for Ahmedabad—where the crash of a London-bound flight on Thursday killed 245 people—resumed, they were unclear when operations through West Asia would resume. They added that flights were being delayed as they were being rerouted while many were being cancelled. Officials said at least 17 international flights were cancelled and eight Air India flights were diverted. Of these, two were air return flights, two ground return, six arrivals were cancelled, seven departures were cancelled, and eight Air India flights were diverted. Air return flights are called off after they take off while the ground return are those that are boarded and scheduled to take off. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 오스템 임플란트 받아가세요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo According to website Flight Radar, over 350 flights were delayed at IGIA on Friday, with an average delay of 26 minutes. An advisory issued by the Delhi airport authority on X stated, "Due to evolving airspace conditions over Iran, Iraq and the neighbouring region, some flight schedules have been impacted. Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest updates regarding their flights. We strongly urge all passengers to rely only on official sources for accurate and up-to-date information." After giving out details about the affected flights, Air India said, "We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers due to this unforeseen disruption and are making every effort to minimise it, including providing accommodation for passengers. Refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling are also being offered to guests who opt for it. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly passengers to their destinations. " An IndiGo advisory stated, "Due to airspace closure over Iran and nearby regions, some flight routes may be impacted, potentially causing longer travel times or cancellations. Please check your flight status on our website or app before heading to the airport." Meanwhile, the upgradation of runway 28/10 from June 15 to Sept 15 will lead to the rescheduling of 86 flights and the cancellation of 114 daily. Earlier, the runway was closed in April and May, resulting in delays of hundreds of flights daily. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Delhi Airport To Cancel 114 Daily Flights For 3 Months Due To Runway Upgrade

New Delhi: Delhi airport operator DIAL on Friday said 114 flights, accounting for 7.5 per cent of the total daily flights, will be cancelled for three months starting from June 15 due to the closure of a runway for upgradation works. The upgradation works of the runway RW 10/28, that was postponed in May after congestion issues, will now be carried out from June 15 to September 15. The Instrument Landing System (ILS) will be upgraded to make the runway CAT III compliant, which will allow flight operations at low visibility conditions during the fog season. The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), the country's largest and busiest airport, handles around 1,450 flight movements daily. It has four runways -- RW 09/27, RW 11R/29L, RW 11L/29R and RW 10/28 -- and two operational terminals -- T1 and T3. T2 is currently closed for maintenance works. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar on Friday said RW 10/28 is not going to be operational, effective June 15, for three months. "...we want to upgrade that runway to mitigate any issues or problems that we were facing, especially during the fog season. So for RW 10/28, there are two upgrades that we are going to do," he said at a press conference here. According to him, the average reduction in daily flights during the three-month period will be around 7.5 per cent, and passengers are being informed about the changes well in advance. "So, the (number of) flights which are going to be cancelled are about 114. If you look at it from the right perspective, we have got 1,450 operations (flight movements) in a day. Out of that, about 114 operations (flight movements) are going to be impacted, which is 7.5 per cent," he said. As per DIAL, a total of 200 flights will be impacted -- 114 will be cancelled and the remaining 86 will be rescheduled from the peak to non-peak hours -- during the June 15-September 15 period. While the runway will resume operations from September 15, the completion of the ILS upgrade will be done by November 27, just before the start of the fog season, Jaipuriar said. DIAL CEO emphasised that rescheduling and cancellation of flights are not going to have a major impact, especially since passengers are being informed in advance. Efforts have been made to ensure a balanced approach to maintain operational stability and minimise disruptions during the closure of RW 28/10, he added. Against the backdrop of certain earlier instances of airlines and the airport operator having differences amid congestion woes, DIAL on Friday stressed that the slot adjustment process was carried out through close coordination among all the stakeholders. Representatives of various airlines were also present at the press conference. Earlier, the RW 10/28 upgradation was planned in April-May this year, and was closed for ILS upgradation on April 8. However, the closure of the runway, easterly winds and congestion impacted flight operations. In view of the same, the civil aviation ministry directed resumption of operations from RW 10/28 and postponement of runway works from June 15 to September 15. The revised upgradation schedule was also agreed to by the airlines, DIAL said. DIAL is majority owned by GMR Airports.
