IIT Madras Zanzibar, the first international campus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Madras, has introduced a new undergraduate programme – a four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemical Process Engineering. The programme offers a comprehensive curriculum blending core chemical engineering fundamentals with practical laboratory work, industry-aligned projects, and electives that encourage interdisciplinary learning. The four-year full-time undergraduate degree programme in the Zanzibar campus is open to candidates of all nationalities, including Indians. "The programme offers a comprehensive curriculum blending core chemical engineering fundamentals with practical laboratory work, industry-aligned projects and electives that encourage interdisciplinary learning," a senior official said. The last date to apply is July 6. "It would be delivered by a distinguished faculty team from IIT Madras, IITM Zanzibar, and partner institutions, ensuring rigorous academic standards and global relevance," the official added. Preeti Aghalayam, Director-in-charge, Zanzibar campus, IIT Madras, said, "As a Chemical Engineer myself, it is such a pleasure that we are bringing this programme to IITM Zanzibar. IIT Madras Zanzibar is the first-ever international campus of an IIT. The first Academic Year (2023-24) at IITM Zanzibar commenced in October 2023. This new programme would be delivered by a faculty team from IIT Madras, IITM Zanzibar, and partner institutions, as mentioned in the press release. –Class 12 or equivalent –Form VI –GCE Advanced Level –IB Diploma –Cambridge AS & A Level Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are mandatory subjects. The classes will commence on 6th October 2025. The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, introduced two new undergraduate engineering courses for the coming academic year of 2025-26. The courses will be offered through the Department of Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering, which has been at the forefront of interdisciplinary research since the inception of IIT Madras in 1959. Students who have cleared JEE (Advanced) can choose these two new programmes in the upcoming Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) Counselling. They will have a total student strength of 40 each.
