Ikea launches Irish expansion plans with Waterford opening
IKEA has launched its plans to expand across Ireland with the opening of a new store in Waterford. The Swedish homeware chain officially opened its seventh plan and order point store Tramore Road Business Park this month. The new site is IKEA's largest store outside Dublin and introduces an enhanced version of the retailer's Plan and Order Point experience, which marks a first for IKEA in Ireland. The store was formally opened by Mayor of Waterford, Cllr. Séamus Ryan, Minister Mary Butler (Chief Whip and Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach), and Minister John Cummins (Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage) (Pic: David Clynch) 'IKEA Ireland's newest location is designed to offer unparalleled convenience and choice,' the firm explains. 'Additionally, the store provides a convenient Click & Collect service for any IKEA item ordered online, and serves as an in-store returns location. For efficiency, this new location operates on a cashless basis, accepting card and digital payments only.' Waterford Mayor Séamus Ryan was among those who attended the opening, alongside Government Chief Whip and Minister of State at the Department of Health Minister Mary Butler, Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage John Cummins and local councillors. IKEA is to open its latest plan and order point in Waterford next week. The new outlet, which will be located in the Tramore Road Business Park, will be the Swedish retailer's largest operation outside of Dublin. It is the seventh such smaller store that IKEA will have opened across the country, but it is eight times larger than existing sites. The shops enable customers to view some ranges, design with a specialist team member and order materials for delivery. The 840 square metre outlet, which will operate on a cashless basis, will also be the first of the plan and order points to offer 100 different IKEA products for sale. It will also provide a free of charge click and collect service and returns location. 15 jobs have been created with the opening of the new plan and order point, with three more such outlets "earmarked to open with the next year."
