Govt welcomes differing views from PKR members, says Saifuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: The government welcomes differing views from PKR members, especially when they are aimed at strengthening governance, said Pakatan Harapan (PH) secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. Saifuddin said PKR had always practised openness and allowed its members, including backbenchers, to voice differing opinions without fear. "In PKR, members are free to express differing views, even sharp criticisms, and we've always accepted them. What may seem odd to other parties is normal to us," said Saifuddin, who is also a PKR political bureau member. He was speaking after attending the INTAN Minister's Conversation 2024 at the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) here today. His comments came a day after several PKR MPs called for a Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate alleged irregularities in judicial appointments. Former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli claimed that recommendations for several judicial positions had been submitted by the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) but were not acted upon. He also said that the JAC had allegedly met last Friday without observing the mandatory 10-day notice period, to renominate candidates for vacant positions. The media conference was also attended by Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail, Subang MP Wong Chen, and Wangsa Maju MP Zahir Hassan. Also present were Balik Pulau MP Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik and Ledang MP Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh. Two other PKR MPs who were absent but expressed support for institutional reform were Sungai Siput MP S. Kesavan and Batu Pahat MP Onn Abu Bakar. When asked if the MPs' actions could harm PH's performance, Saifuddin, who is also the home minister, rejected the notion outright. "It has no negative impact on PH. Rafizi remains the Pandan MP and they've all stated their support for the government," he said.
