Odisha's Nuapada top-performing district in Aadhaar card generation

NUAPADA: Achieving a major milestone, Nuapada has emerged as the top-performing district in Odisha in Aadhaar card generation, clocking an impressive coverage of 113 per cent. This was revealed during the second meeting of the district-level Aadhaar monitoring committee (DLAMC) held at Nuapada collectorate on Wednesday. UIDAI assistant director Adarsha Pattnaik said in Nuapada, Aadhaar cards have been generated for 22,444 children below five years, 1,69,047 individuals aged six to 18 years and 5,83,288 people above 18 years of age, securing the district the lead position in Odisha. However, the meeting, chaired by district collector Madhusudan Das, also flagged pressing challenges. Child enrolment, especially for newborns, has been halted for over a month with India Post Payment Bank (IPPB) representatives reportedly unaware of the cause. The collector ordered immediate resolution of the issue to resume enrolment services. Raising concerns over fake documents being uploaded during enrolment, the collector questioned lapses by operators and called for greater scrutiny and accountability. The district education officer highlighted the UDISE+ mismatches which have affected over 14,000 students. He emphasised the urgency of correcting Aadhaar-linked names and date of birth (DoB) errors to prevent academic disruption. Officials noted that tribal and rural populations remain unaware of the e-gazette name change process, which is complex and time-consuming. The collector suggested exploring simpler alternatives to ensure accessibility and inclusivity. Das also proposed issuance of Aadhaar to vulnerable individuals lacking documents through authentication by tehsildar-signed declarations, ensuring that no one is excluded from vital services. Additionally, he instructed that lists of rejected applications under the PM Janman Yojana be forwarded to the state office in Bhubaneswar for necessary intervention. Among others, additional collector Bhimasen Sabar, CDMO Dr Manoj Sahu, district e-governance officer Birendra Singh Dandasena and representatives of UIDAI, IPPB, and Aadhaar supervisory teams attended the meeting.

Digital push: India Post Payments Bank bags FinMin's 2024‑25 Digital Payments Award; tops DFS index among payments banks

India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) has won the Union Finance Ministry's Digital Payments Award 2024‑25 for its role in widening access to cash‑lite transactions and driving financial inclusion across the country. The trophy was presented in Delhi by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and MoS (Finance) Pankaj Chaudhary to IPPB MD & CEO R Viswesvaran and CGM G Rai Bansal. The recognition comes on the back of IPPB finishing No. 1 among all payments banks on the Department of Financial Services (DFS) performance index for FY 24‑25, after receiving a 'special mention' last year, a government release said. Launched in 2018 as a 100 per cent government‑owned arm of the Department of Posts, IPPB delivers paperless, cashless and presence‑less banking through nearly 2 lakh postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks using smartphone‑biometric kits. Its network covers about 1.65 lakh post offices (of which 1.4 lakh are rural) and serves 11 crore customers in 5.6 lakh villages and towns. 'This award is a testimony to IPPB's relentless efforts in making digital financial services accessible, inclusive and trusted,' Viswesvaran said, adding that the bank will 'remain committed to empowering every Indian citizen through innovative and secure digital solutions.' The DFS honour reinforces the bank's mandate to bridge India's urban‑rural divide in banking and support the Centre's vision of a less‑cash, digitally empowered economy, the statement added. Special camps for IPPB account activation till June 4

Tirupati: The Department of Posts, in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh government, is organising special camps across village and ward secretariats to open new India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) accounts and simplify Aadhaar linking for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) beneficiaries. Tirupati Postal Division Senior Superintendent B Narasappa said that these camps will continue until June 4, 2025. With support from the local district administration, the initiative aims to promote financial inclusion by opening new accounts, linking Aadhaar to existing IPPB accounts, and enabling NPCI mapping to ensure smooth DBT transfers. A key focus is the reactivation of 11,599 dormant accounts through 465 post offices in the district. Eligible citizens, aged 18 and above and residing in the State, can participate. Those without a bank account or whose accounts are inactive are encouraged to utilise this opportunity. No physical documents are required to open an IPPB account, only an Aadhaar number, mobile number, and a Rs.200 payment are enough. The program ensures direct access to government welfare benefits and financial services. For further details, beneficiaries are advised to visit their nearest post office.
