If I became CM, I would give Rs 1 lakh incentive to regular farm loan repayers: Mushrif

Kolhapur: Govt spent Rs 46,000 crore last year towards Mukhyamantri Mazhi Ladki Bahin yojana installments of Rs 1,500 for all eligible women. Therefore, the financial situation is tough, as a result of which, govt is unable to fulfil the promise of farm loan waiver as promised by Mahayuti during the assembly election, said NCP politician and minister of medical education Hasan Mushrif. Speaking at Vandur village in Kolhapur on Saturday evening, Mushrif said that if in the future he becomes the chief minister, he would increase the incentive to the farmers repaying loans regularly from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Due to the promise of a loan waiver, farmers have kept their loan dues pending, except in Kolhapur district, where 91% of agricultural loans were recovered. "Another promise we made is the loan waiver to the farmers. The situation is quite challenging. This year, we disbursed Rs 46,000 crore for Ladki Bahin. Recently, we found that as many as 14,000 men have been listed as beneficiaries. I have a different view on loan waiver. Farmers don't pay loans if govt declares the intention of a loan waiver. The dues keep pending. The banks go deep into crisis. Therefore, if I become CM in the future, by the grace of God and people's support, I will increase the incentive amount to Rs 1 lakh from Rs 50,000," said Mushrif. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Official IQ Test: What is Your IQ? | Answer 30 Questions to Find Out IQ International Undo Mushrif also said govt has not distanced itself from increasing the Rs 1,500 monthly Ladki Bahin instalment to Rs 2,100. "Press the button in front of clock (NCP symbol) and lotus (BJP symbol) during the upcoming zilla parishad and local body elections. We will not rest until we get Rs 2,100 into the accounts of Ladki Bahin beneficiaries," said Mushrif.

Study unveils avian trove, documents 452 bird species across Telangana

1 2 3 4 5 6 Hyderabad: A newly published research paper by a professor from Osmania University (OU) has documented 452 species of birds across Telangana. It is said to be one of the most comprehensive avifaunal checklists ever compiled for the state. Published in the Journal of Threatened Taxa on July 26, the study by Chelmala Srinivasulu from OU and Sriram Reddy from Hyderabad Birding Pals offers insights into Telangana's bird diversity, including rare sightings and first records for India, such as the Spur-winged Lapwing. It also highlights the presence of globally threatened species like the critically endangered Indian Vulture and Lesser Florican, underscoring the region's importance for bird conservation. "Birds are excellent indicators of environmental health," said Srinivasulu, adding: "Our work not only corrects outdated records but also showcases Telangana's hidden biodiversity-rich areas from wetlands to forests, from grasslands to urban lakes." We urge people from all walks of life to take up birdwatching, not just as a hobby, but as a meaningful connection to our natural heritage." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Official IQ Test: What is Your IQ? | Answer 30 Questions to Find Out IQ International Undo Researchers pointed out that the paper is the result of decades of field observations, historic record reviews, and community-contributed data. "Citizens must appreciate and protect the birds around them. Policymakers need to work in tandem with researchers and experts to prioritise habitat identification and conservation. Our bird diversity and populations are declining due to many direct and indirect threats. We must nurture a new generation of bird lovers," added Srinivasulu.

₹93.5 crore flood work set to begin along Madurai's Panthalkudi Channel

Madurai: To mitigate flooding during the monsoon, the water resources department (WRD) is set to launch ₹93.5 crore worth of flood control work along the Panthalkudi Channel and surrounding areas. The project includes constructing reinforced cement concrete (RCC) retaining walls on both sides of the canal and upgrading existing culverts to improve water flow and prevent breaches during heavy rainfall. WRD officials said tenders will be floated this week, and a government order is expected soon. Of the total cost, ₹63.5 crore has been earmarked for the retaining walls along Panthalkudi, and ₹6.9 crore for revamping six existing culverts. Additional flood protection measures are also planned for Eachan Oadai near Mattuthavani and low-lying areas in Uthangudi, which were flooded during last year's rains. The Panthalkudi channel, which carries overflow from the Sellur tank to the Vaigai, is one of the city's oldest and most vital water channels. However, unchecked sewage discharge and garbage dumping have turned it into an open drain. "The stench is unbearable, and the canal overflows onto the streets during rains," said M Saravanan, a Sellur resident. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Official IQ Test: What is Your IQ? | Answer 30 Questions to Find Out IQ International Undo "Sewage from several wards enters the canal. What's the point of underground drainage if it doesn't work?" he added. Chief minister M K Stalin had inspected the channel on May 31 and directed civic officials to expedite the restoration. But delays have sparked public concern ahead of the northeast monsoon. "This isn't just an infrastructure issue — it's a matter of public health and safety. The work must start immediately before the next round of rains," said M Sankara Pandian, a civic activist from Sellur. MSID:: 122936201 413 |
