The ceremony was held at Samskruthi, Raj Bhavan Community Hall, Hyderabad. In his address, the Governor paid glowing tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr B.C. Roy, underlining the legacy of compassionate and ethical healthcare he championed. The Governor lauded the Indian Red Cross Society for its wide-ranging health outreach, including mobile medical units and blood donation campaigns.

Andhra Pradesh Health Minister calls for regular blood donation

GUNTUR: Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav on Saturday urged the youth to regularly donate blood to address shortages. Speaking at World Blood Donor Day celebrations organised by the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) in Guntur, the minister highlighted that despite technological advancements, there is no substitute for human blood. He commended the Red Cross for its crucial role in supplying safe and quality blood, especially during emergencies. The minister noted that 20 blood centres in the State currently meet 20% of Andhra Pradesh's total blood requirements by supplying approximately one lakh units annually. On the occasion, AP Red Cross Society State Chairman YD Rama Rao outlined plans for more transfusion centres and free HPV vaccination programmes for girls. General Secretary AK Parida announced 'Mee Intiki Mee Doctor,' a major outreach initiative bringing medical care to seven new districts with support from REC Limited. The event concluded with the presentation of Karl Landsteiner Awards, pioneer of blood transfusion, ceremony.

Andhra Pradesh Governor Abdul Nazeer urges eligible individuals to donate blood on World Blood Donors Day

Governor S. Abdul Nazeer, who is also the president of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), A.P. State Branch, has appealed to all the eligible persons to voluntarily donate blood on the occasion of World Blood Donors Day being observed on June 14. The Governor has said the day (World Blood Donors Day) is being observed to recall the importance of blood donation for better healthcare system across the world. In a statement issued from Raj Bhavan on Friday, Mr. Abdul Nazeer said this year the World Blood Donors Day 2025 is observed with the theme 'Give Blood, Give Hope, Together We Save Lives'. He appealed to all students and youth in the State to register themselves as blood donors through the A.P. Red Cross Mobile App and donate blood in the 20 Red Cross Blood centres across the State, and save the lives of millions of people and particularly the poor and the downtrodden, who are in need of blood.

Ahmedabad: As news of the plane crash spread, several blood banks and hospitals, especially at Civil Hospital, appealed for blood needed to treat the injured. And Ambavadis rose to the call in huge numbers. Experts estimated that more than 750 units of blood were donated in a matter of couple of hours. Dr Vishwas Amin, director, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Blood Bank, said that they provided about 500 units to the Civil Hospital in the aftermath of the incident. "But we replenished these units in a matter of a few hours as many citizens turned up to donate blood. We will provide blood as and when required," he said. Students take out awareness rally on No Tobacco Day

Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Srikakulam District Chairman P. Jaganmohana Rao on Saturday urged people to say no to Tobacco and other toxic products as they would ruin their physical and financial health. He said that IRCS would help people in leading a normal life with its deaddiction centres assisted by doctors voluntarily in Srikakulam. In a programme organised here on No Tobacco Day, Mr. Rao said that 'No Smoking Day' was being observed since 1987 owing to a call given by the World Health Organisation. NHRC and Kinjarapu Yerrannaidu College of Agriculture Science jointly organised Anti Tobacco rally in SSR Puram of Etcherla mandal in the district. The students vowed to create awareness on the adverse impact of tobacco and drugs. Dean of the College K. Moshe, IRCS Public Relations Officer P. Chaitanya Kumar, IRCS representatives K. Satyanarayana, G. Ramana, Uma Shankar and others participated in the rally.
