The clip, reportedly from Sector 24, captures a kilometre-long snarl on both sides of the road, with multiple lanes offering little relief as cars inch forward at a snail's on Instagram last week, the video is set to Atif Aslam's song Aadat, underscoring how commuters in the NCR have seemingly grown numb to the chaos. Kanwar Yatra: Key GT Road stretch closed in Delhi for 2 days
Agency: PTI New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) The Delhi Traffic Police on Monday announced the closure of a key stretch of the GT Road till 8 am on July 23, due to the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. The left carriageway of the road from the Keshav Chowk roundabout to Yudhishthir Setu (ISBT) will remain closed to vehicular movement from 8 am on July 21 to 8 am on July 23. Commuters using Swami Dayanand Marg towards ISBT have been advised to take the Keshav Chowk underpass to proceed to Maujpur or, alternatively, take a U-turn at Shyam Chowk and reach ISBT via Swami Dayanand Marg, Vikas Marg or the Master Plan Road. Vehicles coming from Seelampur T-Point should use Road No. 66 to access Wazirabad Road, while those approaching from Dharampura T-Point may either continue on Road No. 66 up to Wazirabad Road or divert through the Keshav Chowk underpass towards Vikas Marg, it said. Traffic heading from the Old Iron Bridge for GT Road is being channelled onto the Pusta Road corridor via Kailash Nagar and Gandhi Nagar; commuters from Shastri Park Pusta Road can join GT Road at Shastri Park and proceed to Road No. 66 or continue to the Keshav Chowk underpass for onward movement to Vikas Marg, the advisory read. In addition, traffic attempting to reach GT Road from Khajoori Chowk will be regulated and diverted along Wazirabad Road for onward access to ISBT to prevent bottlenecks on the restricted stretch, it said. Former Indian Army man hit by speeding truck on Delhi flyover, dies
The Delhi Police said a former Indian Army havildar was mowed down by a truck while he was checking the burst tyre of his car at Salimgarh Flyover in the national capital on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Mahender Pal, 47, a resident of Palwal in Haryana, and he was returning home from Chandigarh with his family members. His car, a white Maruti Suzuki Fronx, was going towards ITO from ISBT when the car's tyre got punctured on the flyover in Central Delhi. Pal was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Center, where the doctors declared that he was brought dead. 'The statement of the son of the deceased was recorded, in which he stated that he, along with his father and his family members, was en route to Palwal, Haryana. At 2.00 am, their car tyre got punctured. To check, his father stepped out of the vehicle and was hit by a speeding truck coming from behind,' Nidhin Valsan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Delhi Police, said. According to the First Information Report (FIR), Pal's son, Harkesh Kumar, 20, told the police that the family was in Chandigarh for a function. A BTech student at Chandigarh University, Kumar took a leave from the university to return to Palwal with his family. 'All the parking lights of the car were on. Still the truck driver…' said an inconsolable Kumar. At the time of his death, Pal was a Group D employee in the Haryana Government. Pal's brother-in-law, Ashok Sharma, said they will visit the IP Estate police station on Thursday to identify the truck from the CCTV footage. 'I got to know about the incident on Tuesday morning. There were four people in the car. Mahender, his son Harkesh, brother Sandeep, and another boy named Jitender. The tyre got punctured. So Mahender got out to check it, while Harkesh was taking out the stepney (spare tyre). That's when the truck came from behind,' said Sharma. 'He (Pal) has two children. Both are students. Koi aage peeche kamane wala nahi hai (He was the sole bread earner of his family),' added Sharma. An FIR has been registered under Sections 281 (rash driving endangering human life) and 106 (death due to negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the IP Estate police station on Tuesday.

Assam Police seizes 50,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 10 crore, CM hails crackdown
South Salmara Mankachar (Assam) [India], July 14 (ANI): In a major anti-narcotics operation, police in Assam's South Salmara Mankachar district on Monday seized 50,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 10 crore and arrested a suspected drug trafficker. According to officials, the special Anti-NDPS operation was launched following a tip-off about a large consignment of narcotics being transported by bus. Acting on specific intelligence, police set up a naka checkpoint at Sonapur along HM Road under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ). The police team, led by Inspector Dipak Bargayari, Officer-in-Charge of Mankachar Police Station, intercepted a passenger bus travelling from ISBT Guwahati to Mankachar. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Horen Tokbi said, 'Acting on information that one Ashique Babu (26 years old) was carrying a large consignment of Yaba tablets in a passenger bus bearing registration number AS-01TC-0375 en route from ISBT Guwahati to Mankachar, a special naka checking was set up at Sonapur, HM Road under close supervision of ASP (HQ). The naka team, was led by Inspector Dipak Bargayari, OC Mankachar police station, along with SI Sonudev Barman, HC Zahan Uddin Sk, LNK Shariph Uddin, LNK Anowar Hussain, UBC Samiul Ahmed, UBC Amlan Jyoti Gogoi, ABC Anu Islam, ABC Hajong, and HG Rohul Amin, intercepted the said bus and successfully apprehended the suspect.' Tokbi said preliminary investigation indicates the consignment originated from Manipur, passed through Guwahati, and was handed over to the accused at ISBT Guwahati. He said, 'The police team seized 50,000 Yaba tablets (Methamphetamine) weighing about 5.894 kg, one mobile phone. The estimated value of the seized drugs is around Rs 10 crore. This refers Mankachar police station GDE No. 26 dated 14.07.2025, FIR being registered. Preliminary investigation reveals the consignment originated from Manipur, routed via Guwahati, handed over to the apprehended in ISBT and is suspected to be distributed in border areas of Mankachar, parts of Meghalaya, and smuggled to Bangladesh. Forward and backward linkages are being identified,' Horen Tokbi, SSP of South Salmara Mankachar district said. Reacting to the seizure, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media platform X and wrote, 'In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, @SSalmaraPolice conducted a special anti-NDPS operation and seized. 50,000 Yaba tablets, 1 mobile phone, Rs 10 cr estimated market price, 1 drug peddler arrested. Kanwar Yatra 2025: Delhi issues travel advisory for annual pilgrimage
Travel advisories have been issued in Delhi NCR ahead of Kanwar Yatra, as the yearly pilgrimage by devotees of Lord Shiva is set to take place across Northern India, starting tomorrow. Delhi police estimated huge crowds of devotees who travel to the Ganga river to collect the scared water to flock Delhi tomorrow.(Sakib Ali /Hindustan Times) Authorities have undertaken various steps including mandatory QR code stickers for eateries, drones to monitor the pilgrims, and zero tolerance for meat and alcohol, reported News18. Where are traffic congestions expected in the national capital? Huge crowds of devotees who travel to the Ganga river to collect the scared Gangajal and bring it back to their local Shiva temples, are expected to enter the national capital from various borders, News18 quoted traffic police officials. Dense crowds comprising groups of Kanwariyas are expected on Wazirabad Road, GT Road, Loni Road, NH-24, Road Number 56, Kalindi Kunj Road, Mathura Road, Ring Road, ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Rani Jhansi Road, Ridge Road, and Dhaula Kuan.
