Stray lurcher pup with broken leg ‘thriving' in new home after being abandoned
Lenny had to have his leg, which was severely infected, amputed
A stray lurcher pup who had a broken leg when rescued is now 'thriving' in a new home after being abandoned in Waterford City Centre.
The seven-month-old dog, who was named Lenny by his rescuers, was found wandering alone and limping by a member of the public.
The dog, who was in pain and distress, had a gash on his hind leg, which was extremely swollen.

Lenny was taken to a vet in Dungarven for urgent treatment by ISCPA inspector Alice Lacey.
"Lenny was extremely despondent when I met him,' she said.
'As he was carried and placed in my van, I could see that he was in severe pain. He was very subdued and had the most anguished look in his eyes.
'At that point, when he looked at me, I think he knew he was safe.'
The pup was so exhausted that he kept falling asleep while standing up during the vet's assessment.

An X-ray found that Lenny had a serious break to his Tibia, an injury believed to have occurred several days earlier.
The injury was also severely infected after it had been neglected for so long.
Lenny, who had no microchip and had also not been neutered, had to have his leg amputated.
Following the surgery, he was taken to the ISPCA in Wicklow for round-the-clock care and rehabilitation.
Now, the pup, who 'remained strong throughout his recovery' has been adopted by a loving home where he is now being looked after.
'Lenny, a dog who was once nameless and homeless, now has a new identity and a new lease of life,' Alice added.
'Despite everything he had been through, his gentle nature never faded. We're thrilled he's now safe, happy, and deeply loved'.
The ISPCA have said that Lurcher dog breeds are 'often overlooked in kennels for smaller dogs' and can be in a shelter for some time before being adopted.
