Cowboys rumors: Micah Parsons could be highest-paid defensive player before start of season
The post Cowboys rumors: Micah Parsons could be highest-paid defensive player before start of season appeared first on ClutchPoints. Micah Parsons is in the final year of his rookie contract after the Dallas Cowboys accepted his fifth-year option. He's due to hit free agency next offseason if a new deal doesn't come to fruition. However, the latest buzz in the rumor mill suggests Dallas plans to make Parsons the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL. Advertisement During the latest episode of 'The Insiders' on NFL Network, Ian Rapoport claims the Cowboys could be waiting to sign Micah Parsons to a new contract extension until the later portion of the offseason. Raporpot thinks Dallas could make it to where Parsons is the highest-paid defensive player in the league to begin the 2025-26 season. 'Micah Parsons said himself recently that he believes the Cowboys are costing themselves money by not doing this deal early, but it just does not seem that is going to happen… You understand where things are, and it does make sense that Micah Parsons would be last [to sign a deal]… There's no doubt that most of the other players, if they were to do interviews like Myles Garrett, would at least acknowledge that it would make sense if Micah Parsons ended the offseason, began the season, as he highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL.' Based on Rapoport's reporting, it sounds like the Cowboys are all in on re-signing the 26-year-old edge rusher. But Dallas may just be waiting to see what kind of deal TJ Watt is going to sign, as he's currently set to enter a contract year as well. Advertisement Micah Parsons is arguably the best player on the Cowboys' roster. So, it'd make sense to give him a contract worthy of being the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. He did suffer an ankle sprain last season that saw him miss four games. However, there is no concern that it will have a long-term effect. Parsons ended the 2024-25 campaign with 43 combined tackles (30 solo), 23 quarterback hits, 12 tackles for a loss, 12 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Even after missing four contests, Micah Parsons proved to be wildly consistent and reliable. Kyren Williams reports to Rams training camp but is a 'potential hold-in candidate'
Kyren Williams and the Los Angeles Rams have been negotiating a potential contract extension for months now that the star running back is eligible for a new deal but those talks haven't amounted to anything yet. Rookies and veterans report to training camp on Tuesday and though Williams hasn't gotten the raise he's seeking, he's not holding out. Williams arrived at LMU for camp on Tuesday, which is a great sign for the Rams. However, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Williams is a 'potential hold-in candidate.' In other words, he could choose to sit out practices while contract talks are ongoing, a strategy often used by players this time of year. It's a negotiating tactic that sends the message to the team that he's not thrilled with his current contract, but he's not completely skipping camp so he'll still be up to speed in meetings and other workouts. It's not even certain that Williams will sit out any practices; we'll find out on Thursday when the Rams take the field for their first open practice at LMU. Trey Hendrickson cites T.J. Watt contract in Bengals extension standoff
The Cincinnati Bengals have yet to find a solution to the Trey Hendrickson contract situation. With the 2025 NFL season right around the corner, it's uncertain whether the Bengals will have the veteran coming off back-to-back 17.5 sack seasons. Hendrickson has made it clear to Cincinnati he won't play this season without contract security. At 30 years old and turning 31 in December, he knows an injury could seriously hurt his value in free agency — especially with this likely being his last shot at a big deal. NFL Insider Ian Rapoport was on the NFL Network and shared the latest regarding Hendrickson and where the player stands on an extension with the Bengals. MORE:Bengals' Duke Tobin turns heads with comments on Shemar Stewart's agent 'It's really not just about the overall dollars that the Bengals have offered Trey Hendrickson,' Rapoport said. 'If it was just about the base money, then this would probably be done already. He wants guaranteed money into next year and beyond. That is what a lot of the really good pass rusher contracts have featured. That's what T. J. Watt's contract featured. Not saying that Trey Hendrickson is going to get the contract that T. J. Watt got, but his deal does have guarantees deep into the deal. 'That seems to be where Hendrickson wants, and there's a couple of different ways this could go... They could figure out a way to get this done in a way that all sides are happy, or they could simply not, and Hendrickson could go out, play on the 16 this year, then be a free agent next year and end this whole bandaid-upon-bandaid-upon-bandaid situation.' Cincinnati has Super Bowl aspirations, and with their offensive core locked up for the foreseeable future, the Bengals have run into trouble when it comes to contracts of two key players on defense, Hendrickson and Shemar Stewart. The Bengals are running out of time to sort these situations out or else they could be playing Week 1 without two players who are important to getting to the quarterback.
