Oman: Ibra's old fish market to be revamped with $129,875 investment

Ibra – Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has announced the launch of a fish market project in Ibra, North Sharqiyah. The initiative aims to boost seafood trade, expand market infrastructure, and improve marketing and sales outlets for fish across the governorate. Dr Anwar al Saadi, Director of Department of Agriculture and Water Resources in Ibra, said the Ibra market project falls within efforts to rebuild and modernise the existing market, located in the commercial district of Al Saffala. One of the oldest fish markets in the governorate, it serves as a key trading point, receiving an estimated 1,250 tonnes of fish annually. The market will cover a total area of 2,081sqm. Fully funded by the ministry at a cost of RO50,000, the project is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2026. Facilities will include 12 fish display platforms, an ice-making unit, a waiting area, pump room and other public utilities, all within a climate-controlled environment. 'The ministry, in cooperation with the Office of the Governor of North Sharqiyah and other stakeholders, will establish a closed, air-conditioned market that meets public health standards, supports economic activity, and serves the needs of traders and consumers,' Saadi said. The project constitues part of efforts to boost trade and activate the seafood sales sector. Dr. Anwar Nasser Al Saadi, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources in Ibra, said that steps are underway to develop fish markets to meet the needs of consumers, expand investment in the fisheries sector and provide employment opportunities for the national workforce. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources supervises eight fish markets across wilayats of North A'Sharqiyah governorate.

Ibra: The Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate opened the gates of Wadi Qafifah Dam in the Wilayat of Ibra for partial drainage of water. A large amount of water had accumulated in the dam due to the heavy discharge of wadis in the wilayats of Ibra and Dima Wal Taein, Ibra registered 16 mm of rains while Wilayat of Dima Wal Taein got 5 mm of rainfall. The drainage of the water from the dam, which has a storage capacity of over 926, 000 cubic metre, was aimed to prepare the dam from the flow of wadis during the upcoming days. The wilayats of North Al Sharqiyah Governorate are currently receiving rains leading to the overflow of the wadis , in Wadi Qafifah and Wadi Al Jarwala and others. It is worth mentioning that the Wadi Qafifah Dam, which was opened in 2023, is under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. The length of the dam is 122 metres and the height is 24. 3 metres. The dam has two vents for drainage with diameter of 630 mm and drainage capacity of 3.55 cubic metres per second.---ONA -----ONA

Ibra: Al Jarwala Village in the Wilayat of Ibra, North Al Sharqiyah Governorate is known for its fascinating beauty. It is one of the villages at Wadi Qafifah, which flows almost throughout the year. The village is known for its moderate climate during the summer and the cold weather in winters. The village, which is surrounded by mountains, is also famous for its diverse crops and fertile land. Al Jarwala Village is located 35 kilometres from the centre of the Wilayat of Ibra and some 160 kilometres from the Muscat Governorate. The village is also famous for growing fruits such as mango, guava, fig, local berry and lemon along with cultivation of crops such as onion, garlic and clover. Nasser bin Salim Al Salmi of Al Jarwala Village, said that the place is rich in crops because of water from Wadi Qafifah which feeds the dam established by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and opened in 2023. He said that 'We have some 500 date palm trees besides fruit trees'. The village has several facilities including electricity, water supply, communication services among others. We look forward to paving the 8-km road leading to the village, he added. Hilal bin Nasser Al Salmi said that the village is known for its various crops , wild honey in the mountains adjacent to the village. Ibra: A specialised awareness session on the promotional campaign for the Incentive Programme and the Promising Startups Index was held on Tuesday in Ibra, North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The event was organised by Muscat Stock Exchange and the National Programme for Fiscal Sustainability and Financial Sector Development "Estidama" in collaboration with the North Al Sharqiyah branch of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The session highlighted the objectives of the Incentive Programme and the Promising Startups Index, focusing on key incentives for closed and family-owned companies, along with regulatory and technical requirements. It also introduced the program components designed to support businesses in transitioning to listed companies on Muscat Stock Exchange. Furthermore, the session outlined the incentive programme's three main pathways: 'transformation to Public Joint Stock Companies'; 'Launch of the Promising Startups Index' and the 'Conversion to Closed Joint Stock Companies'. The awareness session aimed to enhance investment literacy among entrepreneurs and investors regarding the Promising Startups Index, foster integration between financial institutions, stimulate SME participation in capital markets, and encourage companies to adopt modern management and financing models.
