QC provides relief to flood-hit people

Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Charity (QC) has launched an urgent humanitarian campaign to support communities affected by floods and torrential rains in several countries, reaffirming its commitment to mobilising public generosity in response to chronic and recurring natural disasters. The campaign also coincides with QC's ongoing efforts to aid families impacted by drought and floods in Somalia, Djibouti, and other nations. In a single year (2024), over 800,000 people were displaced by more than 150 climate-related disasters, while more than 50,000 individuals are currently in dire need of assistance. Recognising the devastating impact of such events, QC campaign focuses on delivering critical relief—including food, water, healthcare, and shelter—to affected populations across ten countries in Asia and Africa. QC has urged the people of Qatar to support the campaign and help improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable. Donations can be made via its website mobile app call centre (44290000), or through QC branches and collectors located in shopping As part of this campaign, QC, with the support of Qatari donors, has distributed emergency food aid to over 9,000 displaced individuals in camps around Mogadishu. The food baskets—sufficient for a month—were distributed to families facing severe humanitarian conditions in Daynile, one of the largest districts hosting displaced populations. This intervention aims to alleviate hunger exacerbated by prolonged drought, rising food prices, and instability. Falastin Ahmed, a long-term displaced resident, said: 'The generous hands of Qatar have always supported us during the most difficult times. This aid arrived just as our food was about to run out, and I had nothing left to feed my children.' In a related effort, Qatar Charity distributed 1,550 food parcels to some of the most vulnerable families displaced by natural disasters in Djibouti. The assistance reached approximately 9,500 people across four regions: Dikhil, Ali Sabieh, Arta, and the capital. These parcels included essential food items aimed at enhancing food security and improving the living conditions of affected households. The distributions were carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Solidarity and local authorities, and attended by Ibrahim Al-Janahi, Head of the Humanitarian Interventions Department at Qatar Charity. Al-Janahi stated: 'Qatar Charity plays a pivotal role in supporting disaster-affected populations through basic food assistance and sustainable relief programmes. Our work follows an integrated approach—assessing field needs, coordinating with local and international agencies, and ensuring fair and effective resource distribution.' Technical Advisor to the Minister of Social Affairs, Mahmoud Bellah, commended Qatar Charity's enduring presence in Djibouti and its vital contributions to food security and development projects across the country.
