Kaizer Chiefs eye mysterious Nigerian striker

Kaizer Chiefs have intensified their search for an additional striker, with an unnamed Nigerian frontman now firmly on their radar ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign. Sources close to Naturena reveal that Chiefs are actively exploring several attacking options as they look to inject more competition and depth into their front line. The new striker, although not yet identified publicly, reportedly offers a profile that fits well with the team's current tactical setup – and would challenge newly signed forward Flavio Silva. 'The club is weighing up options, including another Nigerian striker whose attributes align with what the technical team is looking for,' confirmed a source. Amakhosi have also reignited their interest in Nigerian forward Etiosa Ighodaro, who remains contracted to Mamelodi Sundowns. Chiefs previously made enquiries about the 24-year-old, who scored six goals in 27 appearances during a loan spell at AmaZulu last season. However, the move has stalled due to Ighodaro's pending permanent residence permit (PRP), which prevents him from being registered as a local player. Until the PRP is approved, he continues to count as a foreigner – a challenge for a club that has just one remaining slot in its foreign-player quota. 'Chiefs are treading carefully with foreign signings as they await clarity on the available registration slots,' another source added. With stints at SuperSport United and Chippa United, Ighodaro brings valuable top-flight experience. Should a space become available, he remains a logical option to bolster the squad. Despite the uncertainty around Ighodaro and other international targets, Kaizer Chiefs have already made a flurry of domestic signings to reinforce key areas: Nkanyiso Shinga – Left-back Thabiso Monyane – Right-back Paseka Mako – Left-back Ethan Chislett – Attacking midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu – Central midfielder Flavio Silva – Striker With these arrivals, the club is clearly laying the groundwork for a stronger and more balanced squad. Though the search for a clinical finisher continues to top the agenda. Who should Kaizer Chiefs sign to lead the line? Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Kaizer Chiefs waiting to sign 11th striker in five years

Kaizer Chiefs are fully pursuing what will be an 11th striker signing in five Betway Premiership seasons. Etiosa Ighodaro, who recently played on loan at AmaZulu from Mamelodi Sundowns, has not actually signed for Amakhosi as previously claimed. With the Betway Premiership starting in less than a month, the 24-year-old Nigerian has still not been seen in a Kaizer Chiefs tracksuit. What's actually happening? Didn't his deal with Mamelodi Sundowns run its course? Kaizer Chiefs news: R70 million income and experienced number six 'At the moment Kaizer Chiefs are waiting on Sundowns,' an insider told Soccer Laduma . 'Ighodaro has one year remaining on his contract with Sundowns and only if they can release him first as a free agent or if they can buy him from the remaining months on his contract. 'But Chiefs are interested in him and depending on what Sundowns' decision is, then Chiefs would still sign him before the start of the season.' Following the signing of Flavio Silva, Kaizer Chiefs attempted a 10th center forward solution since 2020: Samir Nurkovic Leonardo Castro Lazarous Kambole Christian Saile Caleb Bimenyimana Jasond Gonzalez Ashley Du Preez Ranga Chivaviro Tashreeq Morris Flavio Silva. In the meantime, Sundowns will have a say on Kaizer Chiefs' pursuit of Ighodaro. 'As soon as he obtains his Permanent Residence Permit, then Sundowns are believed to be willing to keep him because he won't affect their foreign quota and then it would be difficult for Chiefs to sign him this season,' the insider continued. 'But it's believed that if there is a fee to be paid then Sundowns would consider letting him go whether it's to Kaizer Chiefs or any other team,' he concluded. Kaizer Chiefs news: Sundowns decision pending, Nabi talks talent

Kaizer Chiefs remain in the dark over Mamelodi Sundowns striker Etoisa Ighodaro, who has one year left on his contract. 'At the moment Chiefs are waiting on Sundowns,' a source confirmed.' Ighodaro has one year remaining on his contract with Sundowns and only if they can release him first as a free agent or if they can buy him from the remaining months on his contract.' 'Kaizer Chiefs are interested in him and depending on what Sundowns' decision is then Chiefs would still sign him before the start of the season.' Competition is another roadblock for AmaKhosi with the 24-year-old forward reportedly weighing up his options, suggesting that a move to the Soweto giants is not set in stone if the Tshwane giants are willing to let him go. 'There's been a lot of talk about Ighodaro joining Chiefs, but the reports suggesting he has signed are inaccurate,' an insider revealed. 'He is still assessing his options both locally and abroad. Nothing has been concluded. Kaizer Chiefs will enter next season having underperformed in the previous two campaigns, failing to qualify for the MTN8 Cup on both occasions. The 2025/26 season will undoubtably be Nasreddine Nabi's defining test – endure a series of defeats and he could be out the door before Christmas. But it's not all doom and gloom for AmaKhosi, who have welcomed several stars, including Ethan Chislett and Flavio Silva. The gaffer mentioned how they handled the club's pre-season in Europe, saying, 'They need to fully jell with the group,' Nabi said. 'However, they are all adapting nicely, and they start to understand what I expect from them. Our objective was to sign new players that will bring us to a higher level compared to last season. 'We saw a lot of positives in our training matches against very strong Dutch opponents. The players have started to understand the way I want them to play, and they jell well as a strong unit.' 'We didn't only want quality opponents, we also wanted quantity. Parallel with this, we did some tough physical work at training, even doing double sessions on the day before a match… We even had two sessions the day after one of the friendlies, with the objective of getting the players mentally ready,' the Kaizer Chiefs boss concluded.
