New material recovery facility to boost rural recycling
Bhopal: Bhopal's district administration has launched a
Material Recovery Facility
(MRF) to improve recycling efforts in rural areas. The facility, located on the city's outskirts, aims to address the challenge of recycling low-value scrap materials.
The initiative, operating under the
Swachh Bharat Mission
(Rural), will primarily benefit
scrap dealers
from Berasia and Phanda development blocks. State level
solid waste management
advisory committee, member Imtiyaz Ali, noted that while scrap dealers in rural areas focus on high-value materials, "smaller plastic and related waste which is increasingly being consumed in rural areas, does not get recycled." The MRF seeks to bridge this gap and will be a first of its kind in rural areas, he added.
District Panchayat Bhopal organised an orientation programme for over 70 scrap dealers from Phanda and Berasia. The programme informed participants about govt schemes and fair rates for waste collected. Dealers also raised concerns, which District Panchayat CEO Ila Tiwari pledged to address.
District Coordinator, SBM (G), Santosh Jharia, provided information on waste collection procedures. Experts also shared details about Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 and the Swachh Udyami Yojana. The MRF is a collaborative effort between the District Panchayat and Sarthak Community Development and Jankalyaan Sanstha.
