Over 70,000 visitors attend MADANI Rakyat Programme in Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU: The MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 in Terengganu, held at Pasar Kedai Payang here since Thursday, recorded an overwhelming turnout of over 70,000 visitors, far surpassing the initial target of 25,000. The Ministry of Works (KKR) in a statement today said the programme successfully achieved its objective of bringing government services and initiatives closer to the grassroots. 'All the feedback and suggestions received throughout the programme are highly valuable in enhancing the quality of government service delivery towards a progressive Malaysia grounded in MADANI values. 'As the lead ministry, KKR extends its appreciation to all parties across federal and state ministries and agencies, private companies, entrepreneurs and the people of Terengganu for their participation and support in making the event a success,' the statement read. Organised in collaboration with the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department (ICU JPM) and the Performance Acceleration and Coordination Unit (PACU), the programme, themed 'MADANI Development, Prosperous People', reflected the Government's effort to build inclusive physical development through roads, bridges and public facilities. At the same time, it strengthened the human values that underpin the MADANI ethos, promoting an ethical, caring and responsible citizenry in advancing shared national development. Among the key activities held throughout the event were exhibitions by federal and state government agencies, the MADANI Sales programme, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) traffic payment counters, health screenings, job matching opportunities, and a free helmet exchange initiative by the Road Transport Department (JPJ). - Bernama

Zahid: Govt will rebuild all homes lost in Bagan Pasir Laut blaze

BAGAN DATUK: The government will rebuild all 21 houses that were destroyed in a fire in Bagan Pasir Laut, Hutan Melintang, on Saturday. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he had instructed various federal and state agencies to fast-track the reconstruction of the affected homes, despite several challenges. The rural and regional development minister said a joint committee had been formed between his ministry and the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department for this purpose. "Both the federal and state governments will find ways to address the issues faced by the victims, and we will resolve them by rebuilding the homes. "I have already discussed this with the ministry's secretary-general and the state ICU director, and they have set up a joint committee to expedite the process. I've requested that land leveling works be completed within a month. "I've also requested that funding be allocated for the standard construction of these homes, based on the land size indicated in the land grants or Temporary Occupation License (TOL) approval letters," he said. Zahid, who is Bagan Datuk member of parliament, was speaking to reporters after presenting welfare aid to the fire victims at the settlement today. Each affected family received RM10,000 in aid, comprising RM3,000 from the ICU and the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), RM3,000 as Zahid's personal contribution, and RM4,000 from Tantrayana Buddhist Federation Chen Foh Chong Malaysia. Zahid said the Bagan Pasir Laut village, located within the Bagan Datuk parliamentary constituency, was established about 140 years ago. The land in the area is TOL land, and there are a total of 149 houses in the area. "The available allocation is approximately RM86,000 for each house. But I believe that with the donations collected, families may want to add extensions or make improvements, and we will leave that up to each family. "The ministry, Nadma, state government, Perak Land and Mines Office, Welfare Department, and other agencies have coordinated efforts to ensure that TOL ownership rights are handed over to the head of each affected family, house, and shop. "As for the temple, an individual who is a friend of mine has promised to provide assistance for its reconstruction. I've already delivered part of that donation today," he said. On Saturday, an early morning fire destroyed 21 houses, a restaurant, and a temple in Bagan Pasir Laut. Firefighting efforts were hampered by low water pressure from fire hydrants and the risk of electrical arcing from still-active power cables.

Three-month upgrading project on Sibu's Hock Ming jetty to begin soon

SIBU (June 13): Construction work to upgrade the Hock Ming jetty at Jalan Kampung Hilir is expected to begin soon. Sibu MP Oscar Ling said the upgrading of the old wooden ramp to a concrete structure is expected to take three months to complete. 'When completed, it will improve convenience and ensure the safety of the residents who frequently travel between the west bank and the town,' he said. According to Ling, the upgrading is necessary due to the high annual maintenance cost of the old wooden structure. He recently witnessed the handing over of the project from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage to the contractor at the site. The project is funded by the Implementation Coordination Unit under the Madani government's Mesra Rakyat Kerajaan Madani 2024 programme. During the construction period, the ferry service will cease temporarily and commuters will need to use the two nearby jetties or the Igan Bridge as alternatives. Hock Ming jetty is primarily used by west bank residents. As the route passes through narrow roads in Kampung Hilir, the ferry is designated for motorcycles only. The ferry operates daily from 4.30am to 10pm.

No more 80km trips: New ATM eases banking woes for Lojing's Orang Asli community

GUA MUSANG: More than 3,000 Orang Asli residents from several settlements in the Lojing Highlands no longer need to travel approximately 80km to access an automated teller machine (ATM), following the installation of the facility at the Lojing Highlands Rest and Service (R&R) area yesterday. A resident, Sani Alang, 45, said they previously had to travel to Gua Musang town at least once a month just to withdraw cash from an ATM. He said the new ATM service had brought great relief to the community, easing the long-standing hardship of having to make long trips for basic banking transactions. "Previously, I had to spend almost RM50 on fuel and travel around 80km to town just to withdraw money. Now, not anymore," he said. "However, we hope that a cash deposit machine (CDM) can also be made available in the future for the convenience of residents." Meanwhile, Galas assemblyman Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim said the facility benefits not only the Orang Asli community in Lojing but also tourists and road users travelling between Gua Musang, Lojing, and Cameron Highlands in Pahang. He said this was the first ATM installed in the Lojing sub-district. "This long-awaited Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) ATM has finally been installed and is now operational at the Lojing R&R. "We are grateful to BSN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Awang Adek Hussin for the approval, and to the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department for funding the building through the Galas assemblyman's service centre," he said. "We have opened access and provided the necessary facilities for the people in remote areas," he added.
