IND vs ENG Test: Anshul Kamboj denies Ben Duckett century for maiden Test wicket

Ben Duckett is dismissed off the bowling of Anshul Kamboj (Photo by) India found a much-needed breakthrough on Day 2 of the fourth Test in Manchester, as debutant Anshul Kamboj picked up his maiden Test wicket, removing England opener Ben Duckett for 94. The 24-year-old pacer from Haryana, who was brought into the squad due to multiple injuries in India's pace unit, made an immediate impact in his first outing at the highest level. Kamboj, on a difficult day for Indian bowlers, dismissed Duckett with a delivery that climbed sharply from a back-of-a-length spot outside off. Duckett, looking to cut, was surprised by the bounce and edged it to substitute wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel. The dismissal came shortly after Ravindra Jadeja had removed Zak Crawley on 84, shifting momentum in India's favour after a dominant opening stand by England. A visibly charged-up Kamboj let out a roar as he celebrated his first Test scalp. With both openers gone, India suddenly found themselves with an opportunity to apply pressure on the new England batters. Kamboj's inclusion was the result of injuries to Nitish Kumar Reddy, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh. Before this, he had been part of the India A squad against England Lions, where he impressed with his seam bowling in a pace attack that featured Mukesh Kumar and Harshit Rana. Though he was initially overlooked for the Test squad, his consistent domestic performances eventually earned him a well-deserved call-up. IND vs ENG 4th Test: Anshul Kamboj debuts as India make three changes; England win toss yet again

Anshul Kamboj is going to make his Test debut for India against England in Manchester. (PTI) For the fourth time in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, the coin came in favour of England. As Shubman Gill made the wrong call, Ben Stokes chose to field at Old Trafford in Manchester. England lead the five-match series 2-1 after three Tests. LIVE: India vs England 4th Test Day 1 The hosts had won the first and third Tests, at Lord's and Headingley, respectively. India, meanwhile, had triumphed at Edgbaston. 03:17 Anshul Kamboj Joins India Nets After Nitish's Injury | Debut Incoming at Manchester? In team news, Sai Sudharsan has replaced Karun Nair who had struggled to make a mark at No. 3 after earning a place in the India XI after eight years. Seamer Anshul Kamboj is making his Test debut with Shardul Thakur the other seamer coming into the playing XI. India were dealt with injury blows to Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh and Nitish Kumar Reddy. The last has been ruled out for the remainder of the series. In 1990, Anil Kumble was the last Indian to make his Test debut in Manchester. Interestingly, both Kumble and Kamboj have achieved a 10-wicket haul in first-class cricket. "I was actually confused. Good toss to lose. The way we've played in the last three Tests has been outstanding. Some crunch moments we've lost, but we've won more sessions than them," said Gill at the toss. "You need a bit of a break. All three Tests were intense. Looks like a good surface. Nice and hard. There's some forecast around for the four-five days," he added. England had already announced their playing XI two days in advance with Liam Dawson coming back into the setup at the expense of the injured Shoaib Bashir. "We're going to have a bowl. Decent overhead conditions for bowling. We've had a good break in between. Good chance for everyone to head back home and get the batteries recharged," said the England skipper Ben Stokes. "Everyone left everything out on the field at Lord's. We've had three games go down to the final session, which says a lot about the quality of the teams. "Typical Manchester wicket. Quite firm. Some grass. Dawson back in the team - long time since the last Test but he's gone well over the years," he added. India are yet to secure a Test victory in Manchester, failing to do so in nine previous attempts. In contrast, England have experienced only two losses out of 20 Tests at Old Trafford this century, with 14 wins and 4 draws. Throughout this series, England have won all four tosses. Historically, no team that has won the toss and chosen to bowl first has ever won an Old Trafford Test — there have been 3 such losses and 8 draws. Anshul Kamboj turns ailing father's faith into India Test cap: 'Beta tappa pakad ke daalta reh'

Anshul Kamboj (BCCI | X) New Delhi: The distance between Anshul Kamboj's village Fazilpur in Karnal and Neeraj Chopra's village Khandra in Panipat is approximately 60 kilometre, but there's a similarity in their journeys. For Neeraj, it was his uncle, Bhim Chopra, who took him to the ground so that he could lose weight. In Anushl's case, it was his father who introduced him to cricket with the same objective. While Neeraj has arguably become India's greatest athlete of all-time — an Olympic champion, a world champion, and most recently, he breached the psychological 90m mark in javelin. Kamboj's journey has been a bit different. He's taken the long road to earn this Test cap. In cricketing jargon, he has not just knocked on the door. He's hammered it down with performances in domestic cricket. 03:17 Anshul Kamboj Joins India Nets After Nitish's Injury | Debut Incoming at Manchester? Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Anshul's father, Udham Singh - who has had several episodes of epilepsy over the past decade - can't wait to see his son bowling for India at Old Trafford. "It all started with me wanting him to lose some weight. I had specifically asked Satish Rana (Kamboj's childhood coach) to make him bowl," Udham Singh tells by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Swelling and internal bleeding in the brain, help this baby Donate For Health Donate Now Undo "He was overweight and I just wanted to get him back in shape. I never thought he would end up playing for India. But the day I took him to the academy, he got hooked on the game, and it became his life," he said with a laugh. Anshul's younger brother, Sanyam Kamboj, a third-year B Com student, says he couldn't meet his brother before he left for England, but the news has brought immense joy to the family. Big questions for India before 4th Test: No.3 dilemma, Kamboj debut, pitch worries "I've never seen my father smile or laugh like this. His illness had wiped the smile off his face. Since the day the call came, he is unable to control his excitement," says Sanyam. "I couldn't (go) see him off. The day he left for Manchester, our mother was hospitalised. She had a kidney stone procedure, and we had booked an appointment beforehand. I felt bad but once he's back, the Kamboj family will certainly celebrate." Kamboj was drafted into the Indian squad for the fourth Test against England after injuries to all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy and the pace duo of Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh last week. He was part of the India A squad to face England Lions before the start of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. In an attack that featured Test cricketers Mukesh Kumar and Harshit Rana, Kamboj stood out with his exhibition of seam bowling. However, he didn't get picked, and Harshit was retained as an injury cover for the first Test. Kamboj quietly returned to Karnal, doing what he does best. "He came back, and the very next morning, he was at the academy. He had brought a few Dukes balls with him and started bowling to a single stump," says coach Satish Rana. Rana feared the rejection might have left Anshul dejected. "I asked him, 'Sab theek?' (All well?). He politely replied, 'Sir, I am hopeful.' He stayed optimistic — and look at him now. This boy is a perfect example of hard work, dedication, and discipline," says a proud coach. Anshul caught everyone's attention when he took 17 wickets in 10 matches and helped Haryana lift the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2023. That performance caught IPL scouts' eyes, and he earned a contract with Mumbai Indians, playing three matches in IPL 2024. Poll Who do you think has inspired Anshul Kamboj's journey in cricket the most? His father, Udham Singh His coach, Satish Rana Neeraj Chopra His brother, Sanyam Kamboj But it was a historic performance in the Ranji Trophy that truly made heads turn. He became only the third bowler - after Bengal's Premangsu Chatterjee (1956-57) and Rajasthan's Pradeep Sundaram (1985-86) - to take all 10 wickets in an innings. His spell, against Kerala, read: 30.1-9-49-10. "It was a watershed moment in his career. It opened doors for him and gave him the confidence that he belongs at this level," says Rana. Anshul had dedicated that feat to his ailing father, who stood like a rock when the seamer suffered an injury right before the 2020 U-19 World Cup and missed the bus. "That was the only time I saw him in tears. He wanted to quit cricket. It was Udham Singh ji who asked him to keep going, because he knew his son's potential," Rana recalls. 'Udham ji told him, ' Beta, bas tappa pakad ke daalta reh ' (Son, just keep hitting the right length),' adds Rana. And that's exactly what Anshul has done since — he never let go of his tappa. During his stint with CSK, it was his length that impressed everyone. CSK coach Stephen Fleming said Kamboj certainly seemed to hit the bat harder with his heavy balls. "He's deceptive. The ball hits the gloves harder than the speed gun suggests. His strength is his length, and he gets the ball to wobble," Fleming said after a CSK game against Rajasthan Royals in New Delhi. On similar lines, CSK captain MS Dhoni said: 'Kamboj doesn't get swing, but he gets seam movement. The ball hits you harder than the speed gun shows.' Former India off-spinner R Ashwin, who saw Kamboj up close at CSK, went a step further. He said Anshul belongs to the rare breed of bowlers like Zaheer Khan and Jasprit Bumrah , not just skilful, but smart and tactically sharp. "The appreciable thing about Anshul is that he understands plans. I've seen many fast bowlers who, when asked about their plan, say they just want to express themselves or enjoy the game," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel "Ash Ki Baat." "But Anshul understands plans and knows how to execute them in the middle. That's not a trait many possess. Zaheer Khan had it. In recent times, Jassi (Bumrah) has it. Anshul belongs to that category. I'm not comparing skills, but his length is very good, his wrist position upright, and his seam never drops," added Ashwin. Amarjeet Kaypee, Haryana's Ranji coach for the past two seasons, echoes Ashwin's thoughts. 'He's a brainy kid. Very intelligent. A soft-spoken boy. He knows exactly what he's doing,' says the former domestic cricket stalwart. Kaypee adds that Anshul's ability to bowl long spells will help in England. 'He has a very simple action and never hesitates to bowl long spells. That's a big asset in England,' he says. When he steps out at Old Trafford on Wednesday, there will be nerves. But Anshul Kamboj can take inspiration from his fellow Haryanvi, Neeraj Chopra, who stayed cool as ice while hurling India's golden javelin into history at the Tokyo Olympics. 2 sixes and OUT! Vaibhav Suryavanshi fails to fire again in second Youth Test vs England

Vaibhav Suryavanshi NEW DELHI: Vaibhav Suryavanshi was once again the centre of attention in the second Youth Test between India U-19 and England U-19 at the County Ground in Chelmsford. After a promising outing in the first match, the aggressive left-handed opener made headlines on Day 2 of the second Test with a whirlwind cameo. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Walking out to bat alongside captain Ayush Mhatre, Suryavanshi smashed 20 runs off just 14 balls, including one four and two towering sixes. However, his T20-style aggression didn't translate into a big score, as he was dismissed by Alex Green with India U-19's score at 37 — a big early blow. Earlier, England U-19 had posted a solid 309 in their first innings, courtesy of a brilliant 117 off 155 balls from Ekansh Singh and a composed 59 from captain Thomas Roe. Suryavanshi had already made an impact in the first Youth Test, which ended in a draw. He scored 14 in the first innings and then blazed his way to 56 off 44 balls in the second, hitting 9 fours and a six. Anshul Kamboj Joins India Nets After Nitish's Injury | Debut Incoming at Manchester? He also contributed with the ball, picking up two wickets — becoming the only player in the match to notch up a fifty and take wickets, highlighting his potential as a genuine all-rounder. With the second innings still to come, Suryavanshi will be eager for another opportunity to make a meaningful contribution with the bat. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4.
