Pakistan, UK reaffirm commitment to deepen ties

Photo: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday met the UK Minister for Africa, the UN, Commonwealth, and Multilateral Affairs, Lord Collins of Highbury, on the sidelines of the UNSC Open Debate under Pakistan's presidency here. In the meeting, they reaffirmed commitment to deepening Pakistan-UK cooperation in economy, trade, and parliamentary engagement, and acknowledged the constructive role of the Pakistani diaspora in the UK. On multilateral matters, Lord Collins welcomed Pakistan's contributions to strengthening dispute settlement mechanisms during its UNSC presidency. Both leaders discussed regional and global developments, including the situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. They expressed deep concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and stressed the importance of the International Conference on the Two-State Solution on July 28.

Pakistan stands in solidarity with torture victims worldwide on International Day

In a statement released today, Pakistan expressed its strong opposition to torture, underlining that it remains deeply committed to eradicating such practices and strengthening the protection of human dignity. The country reaffirmed commitment to eradicating torture and standing in solidarity with victims worldwide. The foreign office stated that torture, in all its forms, is incompatible with the core values of justice, mercy, and compassion embedded in Islam. These principles, it added, are the foundation for the nation's stance on human rights. "Islam upholds the sanctity and dignity of every human being," the statement read. "Any act of torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment is inconsistent with the values of justice and compassion at the core of Islamic teachings." The government is actively enhancing oversight mechanisms and legal frameworks to ensure accountability and protect individuals from inhuman practices. Furthermore, efforts are being made to provide victims of torture with essential medical, legal, and psychological support. Furthermore, the statement highlighted Pakistan's concerns regarding the widespread use of torture in occupied territories. Pakistan condemned the ongoing abuse faced by the people of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), where they have been subjected to brutal treatment by the occupying powers. These actions, Pakistan stressed, are intended to suppress their right to self-determination and continue to violate fundamental human rights. Pakistan reiterated its call for the international community to condemn the actions of these occupying powers and hold them accountable for their violations. The statement urged global support for ending the suffering of victims and ensuring the protection of their rights.

Pakistan Rejects Remarks by Indian External Affairs Minister
SEENEWS Press Release Pakistan categorically rejects the irresponsible remarks made by the External Affairs Minister of India during different media engagements in Brussels. The discourse of top diplomats should aim to promote peace and harmony, rather than producing bellicose punchlines. The tone and tenor of a Foreign Minister should be commensurate with his dignified status. For last several years, India has been engaged in a malicious campaign to mislead the international community through a fictitious narrative of victimhood. However, India's continued anti-Pakistan diatribe cannot hide its sponsorship of terrorism beyond its borders, nor can it cover up the state-sanctioned oppression in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Instead of pointing fingers at others, India should introspect on its own involvement in terrorism, subversion and targeted assassinations. India must also desist from concocting misleading narratives to justify its recent aggressive actions. Pakistan believes in peaceful coexistence, dialogue and diplomacy. However, it stands resolute in its intent and ability to safeguard its sovereignty against any aggression, as exemplified by its robust response to India's reckless strikes, last month. The narrative emerging from India betrays sheer frustration, following an unsuccessful military adventure against Pakistan. The Indian leaders would be well-advised to improve the standard of their discourse and discard their obsession with Pakistan. Field Marshal Asim Munir visits LoC on Eidul Azha
Listen to article Field Marshal General Asim Munir visited forward positions along the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday to celebrate Eidul Azha with troops. The visit began with Eid prayers, where special supplications were offered for national peace, stability, and prosperity, as well as in honour of martyrs who gave their lives for Pakistan's defence. Extending Eid greetings to officers and soldiers, the Army Chief praised their professional excellence, unwavering dedication, and resilience in the face of continued challenges. He said celebrating Eid on the frontline, away from loved ones, reflected their profound commitment to national service. Gen Munir commended the formation's role in recent operations, notably Marqa-e-Haq and Operation Bunyaanum Marsoos, and paid tribute to the martyrs and Ghazis. 'You have befittingly avenged the loss of innocent lives, including women and children, through your bold and effective response,' he remarked. During his interaction, the cheif of army staff (COAS) acknowledged the troops' high morale, operational preparedness, and vigilance in countering Indian ceasefire violations. He reiterated full confidence in the military's capability to deter and defeat any aggression. Addressing the broader regional context, Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan's principled stance on Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), vowing continued support for the Kashmiri people's 'just and valiant' struggle. He stressed the need for resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and UN Security Council resolutions. The COAS was received at the LoC by the Commander of Rawalpindi Corps upon arrival.

New rail line links IIOJK to Indian network: Modi vows not to stop IIOJK development after attack
NEW DELHI: India is committed to efforts to develop its restive territory of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday, accusing neighbour Pakistan of seeking to destroy livelihoods there with April's deadly attack on tourists. He was speaking on his first visit to the Himalayan region since attackers targeted Hindu tourists in the popular Pahalgam area, killing 26 men, triggering hostilities between the nuclear-armed neighbours that ended in a ceasefire last month. 'The atmosphere of development that emerged in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir will not be hindered by the attack… I will not let development stop here,' Mr Modi said in remarks after inaugurating infrastructure projects. Key among these was a US$5 billion (S$6.4 billion) rail link between the IIOJK Kashmir Valley and the rest of India, which has been more than 40 years in the making and features the world's highest railway arch bridge. Others include highways, city roads and a new medical college. India has accused Pakistan of backing the April attack, a claim denied by Islamabad, and they engaged in four days of fierce fighting in May before agreeing to a ceasefire. Pakistan aimed to disrupt the livelihoods of the poor in IIOJK, who rely heavily on tourism, Mr Modi said, adding that he would face down any obstacle to regional development. Pakistan's Foreign Ministry rejected Mr Modi's remarks on June 6 and said it remained steadfast in its 'principled support' for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. 'Claims of development… ring hollow against the backdrop of an unprecedented military presence, suppression of fundamental freedoms, arbitrary arrests, and a concerted effort to alter the region's demography in violation of international law,' it said. In May, Islamabad said a just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute was essential to ensure lasting peace in the region, known for its snow-capped mountains, scenic lakes, lush meadows and tulip gardens. The region, which drew more than 3 million visitors in 2024, is at the heart of the hostility between the old foes, both of which claim it in full, but rule it in part and have fought two of their three wars over it. India also accuses Pakistan of supporting Islamist militants battling security forces in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, but Islamabad denies the accusation. Trains run in the IIOJK Kashmir Valley but the new link is its first to the wider Indian railway network. Apart from boosting the regional economy, it is expected to help revive tourism, which plummeted after the April attack.
