To streamline fare structures and ensure better financial sustainability, the Ministry of Railways has announced a rationalisation of basic fares for passenger train services, effective from July 1, 2025. The revised fares are based on the updated Passenger Fare Table issued by the Indian Railway Conference Association (IRCA).According to the new fare structure, there will be no increase in ordinary non-AC class fares for journeys up to 500 km. For longer distances, a nominal hike has been introduced: Rs 5 for distances between 501 km and 1500 km, Rs 10 for 1501 km to 2500 km, and Rs 15 for journeys between 2501 km and 3000 Mail and Express trains (non-AC classes), the basic fare has been increased by 1 paisa per kilometre across Second Class, Sleeper Class, and First Class categories. In AC classes, including AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier, AC 2-Tier, and Executive Classes, fares will rise by 2 paisa per single journey fares and season tickets, for both suburban and non-suburban routes, remain unchanged. Reservation charges, superfast surcharges, and other ancillary fees also remain the same. GST will continue to be applied as per existing rules, and fare rounding principles will remain revised fare will apply to tickets booked on or after July 1, 2025. Tickets issued before this date will remain valid at the old rates, and no fare adjustment will be made. New Delhi (India) June 30 (ANI): In a move aimed at streamlining fare structures and enhancing the financial sustainability of passenger services, the Ministry of Railways has rationalised the basic fare of Passenger train services, effective from 01 July 2025. The revised fares are based on the updated Passenger Fare Table issued by the Indian Railway Conference Association (IRCA), the railways said in a release. As per the release, no change in Suburban single journey fares and Season Tickets (for both suburban and non-suburban routes). The fare hike varies across different classes and train types. For ordinary non-AC classes in non-suburban trains, second-class fares will increase by half a paisa per kilometre, subject to certain conditions, such as No increase up to 500 Km; Increase by Rs 5 for distance 501 to 1500 Km; Increase by Rs 10 for distance 1501 to 2500 Km; and Increase by Rs 15 for distance 2501 to 3000 Km. Sleeper and first-class fares will also see a similar increase. The first class will witness an increase of 0.5 paise per kilometre. Mail and express trains will have a slightly higher fare hike, with second-class fares increasing by one paisa per kilometre, and sleeper and first-class fares will follow the same. AC classes, including AC chair car, AC 3-Tier/3-Economy, AC 2-tier, and AC First/Executive Class/Executive Anubhuti, will see a fare increase of two paisa per kilometre. The fare revision also applies to premier and special train services such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, AC Vistadome coaches, Anubhuti coaches, and Ordinary non-suburban services, in accordance with the revised class-wise fare structure. Additionally, there will be no change in ancillary charges, such as reservation fees, superfast surcharges, and other applicable charges, which will remain unchanged. GST will continue to be levied as per applicable rules. Fare rounding principles remain as per existing norms. The revised fares will apply to tickets booked on or after 01.07.2025. Tickets issued before this date will remain valid at the existing fare without any fare adjustment. PRS, UTS, and manual ticketing systems are being updated accordingly, the release said. The Ministry of Railways has issued necessary instructions to all Zonal Railways to ensure the smooth implementation of the revised fare structure and update fare displays at all stations, it added. One of the key highlights of the revised structure is that there will be no increase in fares for ordinary non-AC class passengers travelling up to 500 kilometres. The fare rationalisation aims to streamline the existing fare system and improve the financial health of passenger services. The updated fare chart has been issued by the Indian Railway Conference Association (IRCA) and will be applicable across various categories of trains and classes. For ordinary non-suburban trains, there will be a marginal increase in fares beyond 500 kilometres. In second-class coaches, the fare will go up by Rs 5 for journeys between 501 and 1,500 km, Rs 10 for distances between 1,501 and 2,500 km, and Rs 15 for 2,501 to 3,000 km. Sleeper class and first-class fares in non-suburban trains will also increase slightly, by 0.5 paisa per kilometre. In Mail and Express trains (non-AC classes), second class, sleeper class, and first class fares will see a uniform hike of 1 paisa per kilometre. For AC classes, including Chair Car, 3-Tier, 2-Tier, AC First, Executive Class, and Anubhuti Class, the increase will be 2 paisa per kilometre. The fare changes will also apply to special and premium trains such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, and trains with AC Vistadome and Anubhuti coaches. There will be no change in suburban ticket fares or season tickets, whether suburban or non-suburban. Additionally, reservation fees, superfast surcharges, and other charges will remain unchanged. GST will continue to be levied as per existing rules, and rounding-off principles for fares will remain the same. The revised fares will apply only to tickets booked on or after July 1. Tickets issued before this date will remain valid at the old rates, and passengers will not need to pay any fare difference. The Indian Railways has directed all zones to ensure a smooth transition by updating their ticketing systems -- PRS (Passenger Reservation System), UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System), and manual counters -- and by updating fare boards at stations across the country.
