HC junks contempt plea by Sameer Wankhede's father against Nawab Malik
MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Friday dismissed a petition filed by Dnyandev Wankhede, father of Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Sameer Wankhede, seeking action against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik for contempt of court. The petitioner had alleged that although the former minister had given an assurance to the court on December 9, 2021 about not making any objectionable statements against the Wankhede family, he had made several adverse and defamatory statements subsequently, violating the undertaking given to the court. Nawab Malik 'Ever since the high-profile arrest of Bollywood celebrity Aryan Khan by Sameer Wankhede, Nawab Malik – as part of a concerted sustained campaign actuated by personal animosity, malice and vendetta – published various defamatory material against the Wankhedes through his social media accounts and press interviews,' the petition said. On October 3, 2021, when Sameer Wankhede was zonal director with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the agency seized drugs on board the Cordelia cruise ship off Mumbai coast and arrested Shah Rukh's son Aryan Khan and several others who were present on the ship. Advocate Sana Raees Khan, representing Dyandev Wankhede, highlighted Malik's X post dated December 28, 2021, where he referred to Sameer Wankhede as 'Sameer Dawood Wankhede'. Again on January 2 and 3, 2022, Malik allegedly spoke about the family in a derogatory manner during an interview. Subsequently, on February 8, 2022, the high court issued a show cause notice to Malik over the alleged violations of court orders. Advocate Khan urged the court to punish the NCP leader for contempt of court. However, Malik's counsel argued that the statements were harmless and made without any malafide intentions to violate the court's order. The division bench of justices GS Kulkarni and Arif S Doctor then dismissed the petition, saying Malik's tweets and statements did not amount to breach of the court's order. Since the statements were made during the pendency of another suit against him, it would not be appropriate for the court to exercise its contempt jurisdiction, the judges observed. 'We are not satisfied that such statements amount to any breach. Considering the above situation, we do not deem it appropriate to exercise our contempt jurisdiction', the bench said.

Raid vs Mr Bachchan Explained: How different is Ajay Devgn's crime thriller from Ravi Teja starrer?
Raid, starring Ajay Devgn in the lead role, hit the big screens on March 16, 2018. Following the success of the crime thriller, it was remade in Telugu as Mr Bachchan, with Ravi Teja headlining the remake. If you haven't watched both films, here's a quick recap on both of them and how different they are from one another. What is Ajay Devgn starrer Raid's story? Raid features the story of Amay Patnaik, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer who gets transferred to Lucknow along with his wife, Malini. One fateful day, he receives an anonymous tip about black money hoarded by Rameshwar Singh. With Singh managing to evade income tax raids for many years owing to his power and influence, Amay and his team decide to conduct the raid after careful planning. Despite opposition from Rameshwar Singh, Amay begins his raid, searching every nook and cranny of his residence. A frustrated Rameshwar seeks help from the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, but Patnaik doesn't back down, highlighting how he comes under the jurisdiction of the Central government. With no avail, Singh even meets the Prime Minister of India, where a calm and calculated Amay responds that he'll stop the raid only if an official order is faxed to him. Fearing the media debacle, the PM doubles down. With no option left, Rameshwar Singh threatens Malini's life, which makes Amay furious, but he quickly composes himself. With a final battle being faced by the team, Singh is eventually defeated and arrested with the help of the Special Police Force. How does Mr Bachchan differ? Mr Bachchan, starring Ravi Teja in the lead, takes a more commercial treatment to the story, straying away from the original movie's subtle tone. With more focus on action, the protagonist Anand (aka Mr Bachchan) is a tough Income Tax Officer who is daring enough to take on anyone. Owing to his nature, he gets suspended, which is when he goes back to his hometown and falls in love with Jikki. The first half of the Telugu-language movie narrates how Mr Bachchan tries to woo the girl, who eventually becomes his lover. Coming to the second half, the actual raid starts at the home of Mutyam Jaggayya. As the Harish Shankar directorial crafts the protagonist to be more gleeful and humorous, it strays away from Amay Patnaik and his calm and calculated demeanor. As most actions conducted by Rameshwar Singh and Mutyam Jaggayya are similar, Mr Bachchan ends with a stereotypical fight of one man saving the day.

Raid 2 OTT Premiere: When And Where To Watch Ajay Devgn's Latest Film Online
Last Updated: Ajay Devgn's Raid 2 to stream on Netflix from June 27. Here's everything you need to know about the film's OTT release, cast, plot, and more. After its theatrical run earlier this year, Raid 2 is now set to make its way to the digital space. The sequel to the 2018 sleeper hit Raid will begin streaming on Netflix starting June 27, 2025, offering viewers a gripping dive back into the world of white-collar crime, corruption, and high-stakes justice. Headlined once again by Ajay Devgn as the stoic and relentless IRS officer Amay Patnaik, Raid 2 draws inspiration from the real-life 1980s income tax raid on businessman Sardar Inder Singh — one of the longest and most sensational raids in Indian history. While the film hit theatres on May 1, reactions from critics and audiences have been mixed, with praise for its performances and real-world relevance, and some critique around its pacing and narrative execution. Taking over the female lead duties from Ileana D'Cruz is Vaani Kapoor, who stars opposite Devgn in this installment. The film also features Riteish Deshmukh in a key role, adding further star power to the ensemble. Much like its predecessor, Raid 2 focuses on the cat-and-mouse game between the taxman and those trying to game the system — only this time, the stakes are higher and the opposition even more powerful. Devgn reprises his role as Amay Patnaik, an upright Indian Revenue Service officer who won't back down, no matter how influential his targets may be. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, who also helmed the original, the film is written by Ritesh Shah, Jaideep Yadav, Karan Vyas, and Gupta himself. Backed by Panorama Studios and T-Series, the production boasts a strong lineup of producers including Abhishek Pathak, Pragya Singh, Krishan Kumar, Gaurav Nanda, Bhushan Kumar, and Kumar Mangat Pathak. For fans of investigative thrillers rooted in reality, Raid 2 promises an intense watch. And for those who missed it in theatres, the Netflix premiere on June 27 is a date to mark.
