Young Minds Shine at ISB @75 Chess Championship

The ISB @75 Chess Championship delivered a captivating showcase of strategic brilliance and competitive spirit, as young and seasoned players from across Bahrain competed in a series of high-stakes matches. In the Inter-School Under-19 category, Indian School Bahrain – Team C claimed the top spot with a flawless performance—scoring a perfect 10 match points and an impressive 17½ board points. The winning team featured Dhruvi Shrikant Panigrahi, Sanjana Selvaraj, Kasinath K Siljith, and Vaishnav Sumesh. Close behind in second place was Asian School – Team F, earning 8 match points and 16 board points. The team was led by Anish Vaman Khorjuenkar, alongside Gnanesh Sree Chandra, Akshay Shivashanker Kamath, and Ananth Shivashankar Kamath. Indian School Bahrain – Team F took third place with 7 match points and 12 board points, thanks to strong performances by Pranav Santhosh, Parmesh Suresh, Atharav Jagtap, and Aayush Desai. In the Inter-School Under-12 Team category, New Indian School – Team B emerged victorious with 9 match points and a commanding 16 game points. The team comprised Noel Abraham, Sriram Palaniappan, Jairam Kannappan, and Thanush Nair. Bahrain Indian School – Team B secured second place with 9 match points and 14 game points, led by Ehan Anjam, Trishan M, Druv Trivedi, and Aadithya Udhayakumar. New Millennium School – Team C clinched third place, with solid contributions from Likilesh Amargandhi, Amruth D, Devansh Chakka, and Dhruv Gautam. In the Under-15 Open Rapid category, Dhansika Nasikethan emerged as the champion with 6½ points. She was followed closely by Mohammed Yasir Najeem and A. Hudson, who also scored 6½ points and finished second and third, respectively, after tie-breaks. Just half a point behind were Dhruvi Shrikant Panigrahi, Sanjana Selvaraj, Vaishnav Sumesh, and Sreehari Suresh, each securing 6 points. Navaneeth Krishna K.P, Jairam Kannappan, and Trishan Moorkoth rounded out the top ten with 5½ points each. In the Senior Open Rapid category, Prithvi Raj Prajeesh dominated the field with a perfect 7/7 score, securing a clear first-place finish. Tied at 5 points were Shrikant Krupasindhu Panigrahi, Dimitrios Pispinis, Nicholas, and Aaryan Anil Jai Prabhakaran, all delivering strong performances. Eugine, Franco, K.P. Pramod Nambiar, Raji Ramath Rajeev, and Aditya Venkatraman followed with 4 points each. The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Bahrain Chess Federation President Anmar Ibrahim Ahmadi as Chief Guest. He was joined by ISB Chairman Adv. Binu Mannil Varughese, Secretary V Rajapandian, Vice-Chairman and HSSE & Sports Member Dr Mohammed Faizal, Assistant Secretary and Academics Member Ranjini Mohan, Principal VR Palaniswamy, and ISB Platinum Jubilee General Convener Prince S. Natarajan. Other dignitaries included Vice-Principal G. Satheesh, Arjun Chess Academy CEO Arjun Kakkadath, Tournament Convener Anoj Mathew, Coordinator Mohammed Faisal, PE HoD Sridhar Siva S, and prominent community leaders.

The event brought together students and teachers to celebrate the ancient discipline of yoga, underscoring its vital role in fostering physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The programme was graced by Principal VR Palaniswamy, Senior School & Academic Administration Vice-Principal G. Satheesh, Middle Section Vice-Principal Jose Thomas, Head of the Physical Education Department Sridhar Siva S, Physical Education teachers, and enthusiastic students. This year's theme, 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health,' highlights the dual benefits of yoga—enhancing personal wellness and contributing to collective harmony.

ISB Wins First Prize in GPIC Environmental Research Programme

The Indian School Bahrain(ISB) has emerged victorious at the 20th Annual Environmental Research Programme 2024-25, jointly organised by the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) and the Ministry of Education (MoE), Kingdom of Bahrain. The winning team, comprising Adhya Srijai and Sherlyn Sabrial of Grade 12H, was guided by Rajasree Karnavar, Head of the Chemistry Department. Their award-winning research project, titled 'Preparation and Characterization of the Polymer Chitosan and its Use to Remove Oil Spills from Sea Water' , impressed the evaluators with its scientific depth, practical relevance, and environmental significance. GPIC CEO Yasser A Rahim Alabbasi presented the award to the students. In recognition of their outstanding contribution, each student was awarded a certificate and a cash prize of BD 750. ISB Mannil Varughese, V Rajapandian,EC Members and Principal VR Palaniswamy congratulatded the students and faculty stating that the achievement is a testament to the school's continued commitment to scientific excellence and environmental sustainability.

The Indian School Bahrain to Host Grand Chess Championship as Part of Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

m As part of its Platinum Jubilee celebrations marking 75 years of educational excellence, The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) is set to host a prestigious two-day chess event: the ISB@75 Chess Championship. The championship will take place on June 19 and 20, 2025, at the Jashanmal Auditorium, Isa Town Campus. Organised under the patronage of the Bahrain Chess Federation and in association with Arjun's Chess Academy (ACA), the championship aims to foster the intellectual spirit of chess while commemorating the school's long-standing commitment to academic and holistic development. The event will kick off on Thursday, June 19, with a free Chess Workshop open to all students and parents. Scheduled from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, this session will be led by expert coaches from Arjun's Chess Academy. It promises an engaging introduction to the fundamentals of chess, a discussion on its benefits for cognitive development, and practical strategies for nurturing chess learning at home. The focus will shift to competitive play on Friday, June 20. The Interschool Team Chess Championship will begin at 9:00 AM, featuring two categories: Under 12 and Under 19. Schools are invited to field multiple four-member teams, with no entry fee for this segment. All matches will adhere to FIDE Rapid Rules and be conducted in a Swiss league format. Trophies and certificates will be awarded to the top three teams in each category. The celebration of strategy and skill will culminate in an Open Rapid Chess Tournament commencing at 3:00 PM on the same day. This segment is open to chess players of all age groups and will consist of seven rounds of play, with a time control of 10 minutes plus 3 seconds per move. A nominal entry fee of 2 BD per player applies for the Open Rapid Chess. Attractive prizes will be awarded across various categories, and the top 10 players will receive special recognition. All rounds will be conducted in accordance with FIDE guidelines. The last date for registration for all categories is June 18, 2025. The ISB@75 Chess Championship is anticipated to be one of the most exciting and inclusive chess events in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Hon. Chairman Adv. Binu Mannil Varughese, Hon. Secretary V. Rajapandian, Hon. Vice-Chairman and Hon. Member HSSE & Sports Dr. Mohammed Faizal, along with other Hon. EC members, Principal VR Palaniswamy, and Platinum Jubilee General Convener Prince S. ISB celebrates Technofest showcasing students' talent and creativity

SK views The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) celebrated the 21st edition of its annual Technofest on Monday, 19 May 2025, at the Isa Town campus. The event was organised by ISB science department to mark Indian National Science and Technology Day and featured a wide range of competitions that encouraged students from Grades 4 to 12 to explore science through creativity and innovation. Students took part in various activities such as model making, poster designing, and display board presentations, all focused on important scientific themes. The competitions aimed to raise awareness and develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills among participants. In the Grade 4 model making competition on the theme Best from Waste, the winners were Abigail Arun (4-Z), Deborah Sasha Edwin (4-T), and Yousif Khamis Saad (4-M). Grade 5 students showcased their artistic talents in a poster-making contest on Save Soil for a Better Tomorrow, with Heer Dipak Bhai Kakadiya (5- H), Sera Kishore (5-J), and Pratyusha Dey (5-R) emerging as top performers. Themed display board contests were conducted for higher grades. Grade 6 focused on Clean Water and Sanitation, with Sections 6-K, 6-P, and 6-F taking the top three places. Grade 7 worked on Alternate Energy Sources, where Sections 7-C, 7-Q, and 7-H won honours. In Grade 8, the theme was Space Expeditions, and Sections 8-D, 8-K, and 8-P stood out. Digital poster-making competitions highlighted scientific knowledge and design skills. Grade 9 students focused on the Science of Vaccines, with Sections 9-Q, 9-I, and 9-P winning. Grade 10 explored Women in Science: Past and Present, and the top spots went to Sections 10-H, 10-W, and 10-U. Grade 11 focused on the Internet of Things with winners from 11-H, 11-N, and 11-Q, while Grade 12's topic, Importance of Nuclear Energy, saw Sections 12-H, 12-N, and 12-Q leading.
