And they said Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart wouldn't last! Joy of raising an adopted son has helped forge one of Hollywood's strongest marriages
When Harrison Ford started dating Calista Flockhart in 2002 they were met with a sea of skepticism due to their significant 22-year age gap. Despite this, the ultra-private couple have gone on to forge one of the most successful marriages in Hollywood even after his previous reputation as a womanizer. Harrison has three marriages under his belt and even had a three-month affair with Carrie Fisher while filming the first Star Wars movie in 1976 while he was married to Mary Marquardt. But after finding love with Calista, 60, Indiana Jones icon Harrison, now 82, has settled down into a life of married bliss after they tied the knot in 2010. Calista and Harrison - who have a son called Liam, 24, - met at the 2002 Golden Globes, and by the following year, they were living together and Harrison announced he was 'in love' with her, via Hello! magazine. 'Romantic love is one of the most exciting and fulfilling kinds of love and I think there is a potential for it at any stage of your life,' he said at the time. When Harrison Ford started dating Calista Flockhart in 2002 they were met with a sea of skepticism due to their significant 22-year age gap 'I was not surprised that I was able to fall in love, and I wasn't surprised that I did,' added the Indiana Jones icon, who was then 60. Calista remarked then that their age gap didn't faze her, explaining: 'Sometimes I even say: 'Wow, I keep forgetting that he's 22 years older than me".' She insisted: 'It doesn't factor into our relationship at all. I like the way he looks first thing in the morning. It's not handsome, it's more cute. He looks like a little boy.' Notably, Harrison and Calista have never worked together onscreen despite having been romantically involved with one another for over two decades. 'That's just the circumstantial reality where we haven't been offered something where we'd work together,' he told Us Weekly this February, adding that he would 'love to' work with her. It has previously been revealed that their initial meeting was controversial in itself. They first crossed paths at the awards show in 2002, but rumors later swirled that she purposely spilled wine on the actor, so that they could talk to one another - something she has vehemently denied. And their first date was far from ordinary too, since the Ally McBeal star made her friend and costar James Marsden accompany her - which meant the three of them enjoyed an awkward dinner together before going back to Harrison's house for some drinks. Harrison was 60 and Calista was 38 when they first started dating, and many were quick to slam the unlikely pairing - but it seems keeping this marriage fairly private has meant it has stood the test of time. Harrison was married twice before he met Calista. His first marriage was to Mary, whom he met in college. They tied the knot in 1964, and welcomed two sons together - Benjamin in 1966 and Willard in 1969. But after he was propelled into the spotlight during the '70s - thanks to his role as Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise - a slew of cheating allegations started to make their way around the web. Carrie later confirmed that she had a whirlwind, three-month affair with the actor while they were making the George Lucas film series, and he and Mary ultimately split in 1979. He then went on to wed screenwriter Melissa Mathison in 1983, and together, they welcomed a son, named Malcolm, in 1987, and a daughter, named Georgia, in 1990. But that too didn't last, and they separated in 2000, with their divorce finalized four years later. That's when Calista entered the picture. She and Harrison first crossed paths at the Golden Globes in 2002. At the time, he was 60 years old and she was 38, and he was still in the midst of divorcing Melissa. While reports initially claimed that she purposely spilled her drink on the actor so that they could talk to each other, she later cleared the air on what really went down the first time that they met. 'We were having a conversation for maybe 20 minutes before the wine spilled, and the truth is, Harrison spilled the wine,' she told Hello! magazine. Calista - who had just adopted her infant son, Liam - explained that they both knew who the other was, but that neither of them were looking for a relationship. She was focused on motherhood, and 'didn't think' much about their interaction. 'I remember loving him in Mosquito Coast, but I didn't really think about him,' she continued. Even so, they eventually decided to go on a date - but it wasn't as romantic as you might think because James acted as a third wheel. The actor spoke out about the endeavor during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, and he said explained that Calista had asked him to tag along. They all had dinner together before Harrison invited her over to his house for drinks, but again, she asked if James could come too. 'Really?' he recalled thinking. 'I don't wanna get my a** kicked by Han Solo.' He didn't share any other details about the date, but Harrison and Calista must have hit it off, because they made their first official appearance as a couple at the 59th Venice Film Festival that September. As soon as news hit the web that Harrison and Calista were dating, many people were outraged by their enormous 22-year age gap. Even so, it didn't seem to defer them. In 2003, Calista addressed their difference in age to People magazine, stating, 'It doesn't faze me.' She also insisted that she was still attracted to him despite being in his late 60s, adding, 'I like the way he looks first thing in the morning. It's not handsome, it's more cute. He looks like a little boy.' During the interview, Harrison gave some rare insight into their romance, explaining that they bonded over their mutual passion for flying. 'Calista loves to fly, and I'm thrilled because it's so important to me and it's the kind of thing that's so much more fun with somebody who really enjoys it,' he revealed. '[Her son] Liam loves to fly. Calista likes the process, she likes what she sees from the air, she likes seeing me happy. 'I think a lot of it has to do with that she loves to see me doing something that I love.' The actor also encouraged others to not give up on looking for love. While Calista had previously stated that their age-gap was not something that she paid attention to, she admitted during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2015 that there was one thing that made it obvious they were years apart - their stance on technology. She revealed that Harrison was just 'learning' how to text and was 'getting better,' but that he couldn't understand how to use emojis. 'He says, 'Where'd you get that picture from?'' she said, referring to whenever she would use an emoji. 'It's really bad.' After seven years together, Harrison got down on one knee and asked Calista to marry him on Valentine's Day in 2009. The two officially became husband and wife in June 2010, during an intimate ceremony in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Harrison also legally adopted Liam. The pair have stayed pretty tight-lipped about their relationship over the years. However, while speaking to Reader's Digest in 2008, Harrison spoke out about his wife's amazing parenting. 'She's the best mother in the world,' he gushed. 'She's a mother by choice - she adopted Liam before we met, as a single parent, which is an awesome responsibility to take. 'She's devoted herself to Liam and has done a really wonderful job raising him. I'm happy to now have a part of the job.' The actor explained that he was delighted to be raising a child again, since his kids were all mostly grown by the time they met. 'She's brought a child back into my home. My youngest, other than Liam, is 17,' he continued. 'It's a wonderful opportunity to be part of a child's growing up, which is always an endless springtime. You see the blossoming and the growing and the nurturing and the payoff.' Then in March 2015, Harrison got into a horrifying, near-death plane crash - when his vintage aircraft hit into an LA golf course after suffering from an engine malfunction - and his wife hardly ever left his side throughout his recovery. 'Calista arrived at the ER shortly after Harrison. She looked concerned and stayed with Harrison until late last night,' a source told People at the time. 'This morning, she drove [their son] Liam to school and then straight to the hospital. She is still at the hospital now.' Afterwards, she reflected on the 'really hard, scary time' to the outlet, explaining that Harrison suffered 'critical injuries' and that it made them 'appreciate every second' they have together. 'I think it just makes you realize once again that life can turn on a dime, and we just have to appreciate every second we're here, because you never know,' she said. He later revealed that his wife told him she was never going to get into a vintage plane with him again after the crash, while admitting that it 'was really hard on their family.' This week Calista looked frail as she was seen on a rare solo public outing. The star, who was snapped kissing her husband on the NYC subway in April, went make-up free and donned a trucker cap as she headed out in LA. Flockhart looked near-unrecognizable as she swept her hair back from her face and wore a casual look of a sweater and baggy jeans over her thin frame. She later covered up her face with a black mask. The star was last seen on a red carpet with her Indiana Jones icon husband Ford back in October 2024. Last year, Calista - who is Harrison's third wife - joked that he was 'afraid' of her, during an appearance on Live! With Kelly And Mark. Shortly before, Harrison had been honored with a lifetime achievement gong at the Critics' Choice Awards, where he praised his wife from the stage. 'I want to thank my lovely wife, Calista Flockhart, who supports me when I need a lot of support - and I need a lot of support,' he said. Calista later remarked that the award was 'an emotional thing' and she was 'very proud,' as her husband's 'body of work is so incredible and it's so well-deserved.'

Top Bollywood star came nine hours late on set; Amrish Puri slapped him in public when he arrived
In the glamourous world of Bollywood, stories of on-screen magic often overshadow the tense moments that unfold behind the camera. But every now and then, an incident emerges that reveals a different side of film sets—one that speaks of discipline, frustration, and the clash of two very different personalities. One such moment involved two big names: the late Amrish Puri and Govinda . A Habitual Delay Meets a Man of Discipline Govinda, a star known for his effortless comic timing and dance moves, was also notorious for being late to shoots. In contrast stood Amrish Puri—an actor respected not only for his commanding screen presence but also for his off-screen punctuality and professionalism. These two opposing traits clashed one day during a film shoot that became the subject of lasting industry conversation. According to reports, Amrish Puri had arrived at the set sharply at 9 a.m., ready to shoot. The crew and other cast members waited, but Govinda did not show up for hours. It wasn't until nearly 6 p.m.—after an agonizing nine-hour wait—that the younger actor finally appeared. The delay reportedly sparked an intense confrontation between the two. In a moment of frustration, Amrish Puri is said to have slapped Govinda in full public view on the set. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Treatment That Might Help You Against Knee Pain Knee pain | search ads Find Now Undo Though shocking, the incident was less about personal animosity and more about Amrish Puri's strict approach to work. Known for his no-nonsense attitude, he upheld values of punctuality and respect for time. Govinda's repeated delays had evidently pushed the senior actor to his limit. The altercation sparked media interest, especially since both actors continued to work in the industry afterward. Though Govinda was reportedly upset by the incident and even hesitant to work with Puri again for a time, they never made their differences public in a big way. Amrish Puri: A Legacy of Strength Amrish Puri's towering reputation wasn't just built on roles like Mogambo from Mr. India or Mola Ram from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. It was reinforced by his work ethic. Entering the film industry at the age of 40, he went on to appear in more than 450 films across languages. His dedication to every role—whether villainous or noble—earned him immense respect in India and abroad. His commitment went far beyond just performance. For the role of Mola Ram, Puri even shaved his head, an iconic look that left a lasting impression internationally. Off-screen, he brought the same seriousness to every assignment.

Twice the fun
'Why would you go to Morden and Winkler for the weekend?' It's a question I used to get asked a lot. But after a few stays, and even more shares on social media, the questions have become, 'Where can we stay if we go there?' and 'What should we do there?' The twin cities of Morden and Winkler are 12 kilometres apart on Provincial Highway 3. That means visitors get two for the price of one when it comes to family fun, fabulous food and superb shopping in southwestern Manitoba. Your micro-vacation starts here with our Top 10. Travel Manitoba photo Winkler's Bethel Heritage Park is a downtown treasure featuring a fountain, overflowing garden beds and a pavilion that hosts live theatre and concerts. 1. Stay in a castle. It rests on Morden's main thoroughfare, elegantly holding its place from another time. Built in 1902, Bella's Castle is impossible to miss with its wraparound porch, impressive stonework and, at night, a gallery of twinkling lights. Take your pick from one of five suites, including The Penthouse, which includes a fireplace and claw-foot tub. 2. Eat corn! The farmers around Morden really do grow the most delicious corn in the land. And it's free to all at the Morden Corn and Apple Festival each August. I was mesmerized by the massive corn cooker that's powered by an antique steam engine. Incredibly, it churns out 50,000 cobs during the event. 3. Make it Mexican. My suitcase is bulging with grocery store finds on every return flight from Mexico. But I've found a much more convenient place to get all my favourites: Sunny Day Products and El Roi Mexican Imports, both in Winkler, stock sweet soda pop, Mexican oregano, achiote paste and all the other treats that make me feel like I've stepped into a Mexican market. Travel Manitoba photo Built in 1902, Bella's Castle in Morden is impossible to miss with its wraparound porch and impressive stonework. It's also taken a turn on the small screen. 4. Meet Bruce. Even if it's been a few years since you got excited about dinosaurs, the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre in Morden is a must. It's home to Bruce and he demands attention as the world's largest publicly displayed mosasaur. I loved pretending I was Indiana Jones during the Fossil Dig Adventure Tour, where we learned real paleontological field techniques. Check it out this summer. 5. Shop. Shop. Shop. I always stock up on Mint Medley shea hand cream (for these gardening hands) at Pure Anada, a made in Morden success story featuring cosmetics crafted from organic botanicals and mineral pigments. The downtown shop is simply a joy for browsing. 6. Spa day! Shel Zolkewich photo Cooking 50,000 cobs of free corn for people at Morden's Corn and Apple Festival in August is a team effort. The newly opened Healthians Wellness World in Morden includes a variety of saunas, a steam room and massage therapy at the touch of a button in zero-gravity chairs. Or head over to the Avalon Day Spa in Winkler for a seaweed wrap or therapeutic massage. 7. Hit the beach! Admittedly, I stayed in the shallows, but the Splish Splash Waterpark at Colert Beach inside the Lake Minnewasta Recreation Area in Morden truly looked like a blast. I saw youngsters get launched from a giant pillow, race down a puffy slide and fly high on a trampoline — all over the water on this inflatable playground. 8. More than potatoes. I get endless teasing when I say The Potato Store in Winkler is my favourite stop. Yes, it's the place for bulk spuds at the best prices, but the newly expanded space also stocks a huge selection of made in Manitoba wares including honey, jams and chocolates and a dreamy gift section, not to mention The Crusty Bun for pastries and excellent coffees. 9. Dinner is served. photos by Shel Zolkewich The Potato Store in Winkler has plenty of made-in-Manitoba favourites. Step into historic charm at Rendezvous Eatery & Taproom in Morden, once the town's newspaper office and now the home of mouth-watering barbecue on the weekends, tacos and margaritas on Thursdays and Underwood IPA, just one of the brews offered here. 10. Ice cream for the road. Making a decision at the take-out window is the most difficult part of a visit to Charley B's in Winkler. But you'll never go wrong with the Checker Split, my fave because it includes a sprinkle of brownies on top. The busy joint also has a Pawsh Picnic menu just for the doggos. BONUS: Stop by Morden Nurseries for your very own apple u-pick adventure in their orchard in late summer. Visit Morden Nurseries & Garden Centre and take home a bag of u-pick apples. BONUS: Are you a fan of Hallmark movies? Then you're sure to recognize Bella's Castle in her starring role in Pumpkin Everything (2022).

Why 'Fountain of Youth' continues to be an Apple TV+ hit adventure movie: 'It keeps my inner child alive'
Apple TV+ subscribers can't stop watching adventure film Fountain of Youth, which has been one of the most popular titles on the platform for weeks, starring John Krasinski, Natalie Portman and Eiza González. Guy Ritchie's story didn't get the most glowing reviews from critics, but it continues to find interested viewers. Fountain of Youth is largely centred around estranged siblings, Luke (Krasinski) and Charlotte Purdue (Portman), who reconnect and assemble a crew for a global adventure to find the Fountain of Youth. It all stems from what they learned from their late father, a famous archeologist. "The story was so fun and cool, ... a nostalgic type of movie that doesn't exist anymore, really. Not in the way that I think ... we were trying to go for," Arian Moayed, who plays Inspector Jamal Abbas trying to stop the group from getting to the Fountain of Youth, told Yahoo Canada. For Laz Alonso who plays Patrick Murphy, working alongside Luke and Charlotte on their quest, The Boys star has lots of experience with impressive ensembles, but he also has a personal goal to work on movies and in genres that he was "obsessed" with as a kid. "It keeps my inner child alive," he said in a separate interview. "I feel like a little kid when I'm on set and I get to tell these magnificent what-ifs. And it really changes the storytelling when you can do it in these insanely gorgeous, real backdrops." Fountain of Youth takes on the adventure genre with a long history in Hollywood, including the Indiana Jones series. "Everybody keeps talking about, Hollywood is doing nothing but remakes," Alonso highlighted. "While that is true, you also have the opportunity to tell a brand new story in the genre of the remake, ... the genre that has already proven to have an audience." Moayed highlighted that, in the context of the search of the Fountain of Youth, there's an inherent human curiosity and fear around death. "Deep down, we're all kind of a little worried that we're all going to die. We've all got to die, but [the fear is that] we're going to die too soon," Moayed said. "And so the quest for something that keeps us immortal is universal." "It's not just something that's a western concept. In Persian we have, it's called the cheshmeh javani, which means, literally, the fountain of youth. Because even in Persian culture, thousands of years ago, the idea that we can live forever or pass down our ideas is something that never goes away." But an added element to the show is that it has Ritchie's signature style, a blend of witty dialogue with strong elements of mystery. The Fountain of Youth stars also highlighted how collaborative and spontaneous he is as a filmmaker. "He's probably one of the most collaborative directors that I've worked with," Alonso said. "There were times during this film where he would bring in John Krasinski, Natalie Portman, myself, and Carmen and Ejogo into his trailer, and now we're in there rewriting a scene, all of us together. ... That's something that rarely happens on a film set, where actors are allowed to be part of the creative process." "It's a butterfly effect. ... I think that's what happens in a lot of films when people say, 'Oh, well, there was a plot hole here' or 'they never addressed that.' It's because something changed and they didn't carry that change throughout the end. Well Guy really pays attention to that." Moayed echoed her co-star's comments, adding that Ritchie also really wants to lean into the personality that each actor brings to their character. "What's cool about Guy Ritchie is that he really always is trying to make it fresh and alive," he said. Moayed recalled a moment filming Fountain of Youth in Liverpool and he didn't have any lines in the portion of the script being filmed that day. But then Ritchie had an entire monologue for Moayed at the last minute, leaving the actor with only about 30 minutes to learn it. "He's seeing it in a bigger scale and sometimes when you see an edit on a large scale, you're like, oh, this actually needs to fill in this as well," he said. "I enjoy that kind of like spontaneity and freshness to the piece." And the final element that plays a role in the interest in the film is the commitment to using a practical set as much as possible, from Vienna to the pyramids in Egypt. "A lot of what I felt was most exciting about a piece this is that it's practical," Moayed said. "I had the privilege of doing Spider-Man: No Way Home, ... it's all make believe around you." "[Fountain of Youth] felt like you're walking into those old movies of like [Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade], where you see and feel all those things. So that's kind of like a joy, a little bit, to have a big budget Hollywood, Apple movie that like feels all those things." For Alonso, he said those elements contribute to what makes Ritchie's visual storytelling "incomparable." "The colours, the wardrobe, he really tells a story with the palette that he uses to paint his entire frame, not just words on a page," Alonso said. "I love being able to now take the performance and match the painting. ... It's picturesque, and without having to say a word, you immediately get drawn in. ... And he's a master at that."

QuickCheck: Is there an Australian town that exists underground?
WITH the scorching heat these days, many almost wish they could hide anywhere, even underground, away from the sun. And there seem to be whispers of some who actually do it, living in a subterranean sanctuary. Sound like a plot twist from a lost Indiana Jones movie? Maybe. But is there truth that there is a town that exists underground? Verdict: TRUE Coober Pedy is a small town in the southern Australian outback over 800km from the nearest city. In the summer, the heat can climb to 45°C, leaving the entire area hot and desolate, and for most, living in such conditions is unbearable. Instead of battling the sun, the residents of Coober Pedy got creative and embraced the underground, carving out a life beneath the earth's surface. Known as "dugouts," these homes are carved into the rock, providing natural insulation against the elements. Walking through this town feels like navigating an elaborate ant colony. A little history about this town, Coober Pedy is dubbed the Opal Capital of the World, with mines producing a significant portion of the planet's opal supply. The promise of these precious gems drew fortune seekers from far and wide, with the underground lifestyle becoming a practical solution to the harsh climate. Today, Coober Pedy attracts curious travelers and gem enthusiasts eager to experience life underground and perhaps find a gem or two. Visitors can stay in underground hotels, explore opal mines, and even try their luck at mining.
